View Full Version : Any tips for Dragon Rising?

Hey, I picked this up in a trade and gave it a go. I like the modern warfare (not to be confused with the game of the same name) concept and setting but I really struggled with this on the first mission/tutorial.
I advanced up the hill and took out the antenna/radar station thingy, but then to head to my next objective my section was pinned down by fire from all directions including the woods below and I simply couldn't break through without members of my section going down (or indeed myself).
I want to make a go of this game, it feels better than the CoD games (and other similar titles) in that it feels more realistic than running around like the terminator blowing everything up. But I don't want to watch any walkthrough videos or anything, I'd rather figure it out myself with a few tips on what may make life a bit easier.
So that's it, any tips? Thanks in advance. :)
EDIT: Just an update, I got through that first mission slowly but surely. In all honesty I don't think I killed a single enemy and it was my fire team that did all the work!

For someone just starting up, be sure you read this guide (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/operation-flashpoint-dragon-rising-game-pc-113/477867-guide-dragon-rising.html).
I think installing Ultimate AI will help, it makes your team smarter, however, the enemy are smart as well and more realistic.

Thanks for the reply.
So if i download and install [CM Patch V1.02] and [CM Patch V1.02/Mod supported exe] what does this add to the game?
I'll also install [Ultimate AI 2011 Full] but what exactly does that add?
Are there any other mods that are kinda essential for SP play?
EDIT: Ok I'm having trouble. I run the patcher [CM Patch V1.02] and it tells me I have not got OF Dragon Rising installed...
At this rate I think I'll persevere with the game as it is now.

Steam version is automatically patched to 1.02. All you need is the 1.02 mod supported exe (make a back up of your current, or if you ever need to restore it, verify the games cache in steam).
Ultimate AI 2011 Full Includes all the AI tweaking, and extends the visual range of the AI.
Ultimate AI 2011 Compatible Includes all the AI tweaking, but leaves the vision ranges as the longer distance corrupted some missions that were not designed for that level of visibility.
Each have a Hardcore and an Experienced version. The UAI2011 Compatible also has a special version which only changes weapon stuff and leaves the AI alone.
I would recommend UAI2011 Compatible - Experienced
Once you make your choice on which version you want to use, navigate to
OFPDR directory\data_win\media\vehicles\
and delete any SUBFOLDERS inside \vehicles\ leaving the rest of the files alone. This fix, while not necessary, will improve the AI's pathfinding skills while driving.

Ah i see. Your advice is much appreciated. Any other mods you would highly recommend for SP (and why?)?
EDIT: Also, sorry to be a pain. there is [Ultimate AI 2011 Compatible] which says in the description (intended to work with DR campaign, or missions that rely on smaller AI vision range.) and [Ultimate AI 2011 Full].
I intend to play through the campaign and other missions so wondered if [Ultimate AI 2011 Full] still works with campaign mode?

Check my post above for a brief explanation of the different UAI2011.
As for other single player mods maybe use:
- Some form of Better lighting. Makes things more visible.
- The max Entity Mod
- The bigger effects mod
All are available in the guide and screenshots of the lighting combinations are on the first page.
As for singleplayer missions I recommend:
- Island War 2.9
- Special Forces Gurilla Warefare (version 1.41 or Frontline Assault)

Use if you want to play the original campaign, your best bet is to use [Ultimate AI 2011 Compatible], and if your new to DR use the [Ultimate AI 2011 Compatible - Experienced]. Hardcore is just to hard sometimes.
Using [Ultimate AI 2011 Compatible - Experienced] will work correctly with the original campaign and any other mission.
