View Full Version : Making a competitive CTF map?

As it stands Turbine_pro is the king of it at the moment. But I was wondering remember that Mach CTF map(I think like Mach five) where it was two castles across from each other, and the two towers in the middle and such.

Think there is anyway to make it viable for Highlander? Mayne widen up the entrances, and make the ceilings inside a bit more "roomy" to allow quick grabs by soldier and demo?

The map. Didn't recognise the name but definetely remember playing it a bunch.

Would need a bunch of tweaks but can see it working.

Mach, Chaos, and Impact have all been played competitively in TF2 in some format, be it 8v8 or 6v6 in the past.

These were all conversions from previous TF games where they were played to death in competitive gameplay. Obviously that doesn't apply to TF2, but they're pretty classic.

I'd suppose Mach could use updating for 2012 standards, but it has had a pretty good run.

Yeah we found the map a while ago, Mach 4 bases+ a Mach arena middle(with some minor tweaking to cover possible sniper exploits) seems like a decent run.

I was thinking of running it as a basis, but obviously changing it a ♥♥♥♥ ton, to fit HL, like extending the point back a bit so sniper may get some better sight lines inside, larger tunnels in the sewers, and the probably adding a tunnel from the sewer side straight into the Intel area.

Some changes I would certainly make if I ever came back to this map would be to:

-Improve the sewers
-Improve the outside area, likely using the arena_mach version as a guide to start with
-Possibly add a route from the flag pedastal to the upper base area. This is a big gameplay change, so it'd have to be tested a lot.
-Just make the map more "roomy" in general. Originally it was a ported file from Q3F/ETF and dimensions were pretty off. From mach2 to mach4 I improved the sizing a great deal, but it still needs a little improvement. Unfortunately changes like this get into the non-detail structure of the map, so they take a lot longer to do. At this point it'd almost be worth remaking the map with this in mind from the beginning. It's not a very big map, so hey, it might be worth it.
