1. Is it better to start off with a capital ship that can colonize right away or one of the other ones?

2. I maxed out a planet and can't build any more civilian research stations. Are Trade stations really that important that I sac military research for it?

3. Is it advised to mine every rock I come across?

4. Oribital gun platforms. Do I need one for each jump vector into my home planet?

I love the combat as its cool to send my fleet out and watch them blow other ships to hell and back. Its the logistics I am having problems with.

Thanks in advance.

1. Generally yes
2. Yes, they make a strong economy possible. No money, no ships.

So I have to build trade platforms. I guess that means no guns to defend the planet as I need 2 of them and 2 mil platforms just to get the decent research. Guess I will try the scenario again.

Got economic stuff down. I had a power house economy but the cheating ♥♥♥ AI sends not 1 but 2 fleets after one of my planets. I have just the one fleet, it gets destroyed and the game is basically over as I can't defend what I have left. Maxed out industry, was working on building up my mil research platforms and that happend. Whatever I guess I need to play a bigger map or something.

I even had like 3 maxed out planets and was working on number 5. What a waste of time that was.

Gause platforms don't stand a chance against bomber spam.....this game is not fun. Not fun in the least.

It takes some time to learn yes. Recommend a lower AI. Sounds like you went Unfair AI. Remember to expand quickly and find a good choke point. Put up a starbase then max out economy. 3 planets is an extremely slow start.

Did that and it was on easy I will never be good enough at this game to play on hard let alone unfair. I don't even want to know what unfair is like.

Is the small 1v1 map just a bad map to start on? A huge map with only 1 ai would be heaven, but I can't figure out how to turn off the other AI. I guess I could make them all on my team but that doesn't sound like any fun.

Just keep clicking on the very left buttons in the game setup screen to knock out the AIs so you can 1v1 on a large map.

I agree with what Ryat said, this game has a learning curve, especially Rebellion because it contains large amounts of content. There was much less to learn about in the original Sins game ("Vanilla"). It is a lot of fun if you enjoy strategy games, especially if you ever get to the point where you can play online multiplayer team games such as 5-on-5 without any AI.
