In my opinion, I don't believe Alex Mercer was solely responsible for killing this guy's family - but this guy believes he did, and that's enough for him.

I'm sure the plot will thicken.

Yeah they did a 180 with Mercers character development compared to the first game. By the end of the original he was starting to see the bad stuff he had done. And who was responsible for everything, and he stopped them. And saved the city. But apparently they decided to make him the villain so now they wrote a backstory in some comics where he starts to hate humanity, and believes its better off turned into virus monsters or something.

This is pretty much my mindset. The first game had him gradually becoming a more moral person. The second decided to introduce a new protagonist, and instead of giving us reasons to like him, the chose to force us to hate Mercer by making him the most generic template of egomaniacal villain there is. He did not act, talk, plot, or behave like the first game's Mercer at all - he was more like a cross between the human Alex Mercer and Elizabeth Greene. And the tie-in comic excuse was stupid - both unlikely to happen and unlikely to affect Alex anyways, given all that he's seen and the fact that he already had an anchor in the form of Dana.

Which made me really pissed at the new game's writers. I'm just pretending Prototype 2 never happened.

Of course, the way most people play these games both protagonists are kind of evil unless eating random people for health somehow became morally ok.
