View Full Version : The Crinale - Overpowered or not?

Hi guys, just wanted to get your opinion about using the Crinale in a multiplayer match. I used it once against others who didn't, and it seemed too much of an advantage. I never used it again. I was thinking to use it only if everyone else will agree to choosing it in a race.

This legendary RR car is just way too easy to drive, and has the highest acceleration and Top speed of all the Super class cars, with the Hurricana CX essentially the close second.

Which brings me to the point that RRU MP doesn't have a way to show what cars your opponents are choosing. This can be ok, but if someone chose the Crinale, the others won't be able to change their choices to adapt.

I agree; as far as the Super Class goes, the car is OP. I have only used it once - and that was when I knew I was going to get an 8-player race (only happened once) in order to get the achievement.

For those who have the DLC however; the Immortal is just as bad and could be more of a nuisance as it seems to have better cornering.

I just stick to the Hurricana though. I don't like having unfair advantages and I prefer the drifting of the Hurricana over the Crinale and Immortal (corners I can drift through at 200-220km/h in the Hurricana I can only manage at 160-190km/h in the Immortal so meh.)

Thanks for the input guys! I guess this is one of those "unwritten rules". I just felt I had to mention it here for those itching to use it after unlocking it. I'm also waiting to get an 8-player lobby to get the achievement. We'll probably see players use it when the lobby has that many players :)

KazzyMac - is the Immortal only for the console versions? I don't remember a DLC for RRU PC... and yah a lot of players use the Hurricana CX coz of it's balance... balance meaning having a price to pay for having that much power - is it's tissue paper armor. Fair enough in MP.

I use:

Street - Ashburn (I'm a stubborn drift bloke)
Race - Wraithe, Nakamura
Super - Hurricana
Shindo - Hurricana, Nakamura

If you buy the Limited Edition (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ridge-Racer-Unbounded-Limited-Edition/dp/B005OOZNAE), you get 3 extra cars and some extra paint jobs.

The Limited Edition is available for all platforms, and the Immortal is worth it :P

Does the limited edition cars give players online an advantage against players that only have the stock cars to pick from?

And I take it there no "same has host" option in RRU? So all players race the same stock car ( no dlc cars, since not all players would have them ).

I'd say the limited edition is definitely giving an advantage as this is the intent of such a limited edition and you pay for it usually. In this case it's just a little up-side-down that Steam can't make a better price than retail stores. :(

@ the ones who have the limited edition: how does the multi-player integrate? With the Steam version it integrates fully into Steam (achievements, overlay etc.) and I wonder how it provides that functionality without Steam i.e. "invite friends" since Patch 1.07???

Do retail owners also get the patches or is THAT exactly the real Steam advantage?

All the pre-order DLC (the bonus cars) are in the data - both retail and Steam. The retail version uses Steamworks to register the game anyway.

I have the Immortal on xbox and I can play against people that don't have the DLC (or did, when people played it :/) but the pre-order DLC for the xbox was easy to get hold of so everybody had the Immortal anyway (the 8-player race I had in the Crinale, 4 people were using the Immortal ... they all crashed at the first corner >_>)

I'm also glad to see people being respectful and honouring 'unwritten laws' of video games (much like on Blur, an unwritten law amongst good drivers is to not ram)

And to see how this compares, the cars I learned to use;

Street: Motega XR, Gremlin GS (the gremlin is the one that looks like a Nissan GT-R, right? that one. its acceleration is just a bit ♥♥♥♥ though)
Race: Crimson TT (I would drive the Dorean LE but it loses too much speed through drifts for my liking)
Street: Hurricana CX (I can drive the first one but I prefer the Hurricana)
Shindo Drift: Dorean Drift
Shindo Race: I have no preference. The Shindo cars are too unbalanced anyway; my favourite is the Motega but good luck winning with it in later career races :/

btw I found out the top speed of the Hurricana is 303km/h (that's about 190mph I think ... that's pretty quick). The first Super-class car (I forget its name, looks like a Corvette ZR-1) gets to 285km/h. I've yet to find out what the top speed of the Immortal and Crinale are; I've gotten 330km/h out of the Immortal but never got it stable enough to find out if it would keep going or not :l

Oh, and funny thing is: I bought the DLC and got the Immortal, but I always use the Galaga DLC car for Super Class. Guess what car model the Galaga is? Hint: everyone here seems to like driving it. ;)

never did understand what the 'red mic' icon means... game dev?

I actually bumped into the "X mute" button - Fred said they once planned to include in-game voice chat but then it somehow got lost and they even forgot to remove the visuals and knobs

That video shows the xbox version, that has working voice chat. The red mic icon means that the person has been muted.

It might also be a bug, there was a bug about the icons being randomly displayed, that we fixed at some point. In any case it will be resolved in the title update.

The voice chat was also ment to be there for PC, since external voice chat application would mess with the game traffic and cause lag, or bad voice quality. But it's currently not enabled, there was some misunderstanding so no one actually finished it properly. It's mostly working though, so it's possible that it will be enabled in a patch.

The Crinale and the Immortal, along with the CX, are basically RR:U's equivalents of the Bullet GT, Flatmobile and Rocket in FO2/Flatout UC. OP as hell, and every tard third worlder uses them online.

KazzyMac
05-01-2012, 05:14 PM
The Hurricana CX isn't that OP though; its acceleration is actually pretty rubbish at high speed.

I've also noticed its boost isn't too good either - I watched a few alpha/beta videos of RR:U and noticed that a car stat that was 'dropped' from the stat screen was a 'boost' stat. However from experience with Blur I still believe that this stat is in the game but just hidden (in layman terms some cars have better boost than others, and the Hurricana seems to have rather bad boost)

But yeah ... out of the 'standard' Super Class cars, the Hurricana is easily the best one. Then again I just drive it because it suits my driving style whereas the other two don't (the first car is a bit loose when drifting, the 2nd one just has horrible handling.)

:/

Speaking of things cut/dropped from RR:U, check this out, found in extracted game files.

Cool eh?
Most likely the original Frag Attack vehicle.

Good thing that Bugbear coded the car select screen in as a collection of screenshots instead of dynamic 3D loading like most other games ;)

But yeah, that's interesting. I could see why it would have been dropped though ... it's HUGE. Well, more 'long' than 'huge' tbh but ... you get the idea.

I'm sure Fred will want to clarify this now :)

Would it be fair game to bring the Crinale in against a lobby of players who persist on using the Immortal? Just came from races in which I was barely holding my own against a pair of Immortals with the Hurricana CX.

In Flatout 2 / UC we usually just used the "same as host" option for cars someone mentioned and switched the car after every track. It kept things fair, fun and varied for everyone. This option really needs to be added, along with showing the cars people use in the lobby.

Love this option in Flatout 2. Just use it online last night. :)

Speaking of the Crinale, I 2-starred the last event and didn't get it...WTF?! Do you have to reach rank 30 to get it?(i'm rank 29)

KazzyMac
05-06-2012, 02:12 PM
I think you have to 3-star it. I didn't leave the event until I 3-star'd it.

That in itself was easier said than done as it's pretty freaking difficult to keep the speed up. The 3-star time is tough. I managed it eventually, but it's no easy matter.

I finally unlocked the Shindo Ashburn and I got the "Garage Hoarder" achievement...so I guess I did unlock the Crinale. Is it in a seperate super class? Or is it supposed to be listed after the Grimnir?

KazzyMac
05-08-2012, 08:40 AM
It's supposed to show up after the Hurricana CX in the garage; if it's not there then I guess the 'garage hoarder' achievement ignores the Crinale for some reason :/

durp. which one is the last car in the super class list? the hurricana or the grimnir?

RoyalMonaco76

Grimnir.
Anyway, it's officially impossible to 3 star that event. Stuntman is frickin' Disneyland compared to this.

KazzyMac

... Really? I 3-star'd it. Can't be impossible, then.

Kazzy - you must be an extraterrestrial then ;)

Again in the top 3 (as with Blur) of the best RRU racers together with ceiling cat and ridge racer (what else?) - LOL

Next target will be Dirt Showdown? I think I will try that too (and gain an advantage while you're participating at the 2nd Blur anniversary tournament by Speedjunkie) :p

RoyalMonaco76

Top 3? Pffft, it figures. Must be one of the "Human Rubber Band AI" types.
And it is impossible-100 percenting the final scene in Stuntman is cake compared to this.

I'm actually pretty garbage at Dirt: Showdown. The best time I've seen in the single-player track is 1:40. My best is 1:49. I lose too much time in the corners it seems, or I'm just for some reason not getting the amount of boost these other guys do :l

Not sure what the highscores for the multiplayer Rampage are but I've managed 22,600 as my best >_>

Also @ RoyalMonaco76 if you don't believe me I'll either show a screenshot of the menu or I'll even go as far as recording me 3-star'ing it. It's possible. It's all about maximising your speed (most of the time can be won or lost after the really sharp corners.

I'm not saying you actually used a speedhack, it's that you're lucky, and it's like you have a human rubber-band AI like cunning. :D
I'll eventually get it, this is the only event I struggled with.

The final Time Attack race with the Crinale can be tough, but remember there are a lot of barriers in the highway you can crash through to increase Boost. I noticed that this challenge is more of strategically unlocking different Awards in the race in succession to keep that boost guage filled up. From Drafting, Speeding, Drifting, Fragging, Destroying, Flying, etc., timing the Awards can give the best chance of keeping the Boost gauge filled up until the end of the race.

The whole discussion about the Crinale sounds like there is tradition in Ridge Racer from the very first release that in the end you get a fully powered car (all parameters maxed).

In RR1 on PSone there was a black car in the end that also had everything maxed out and you had to beat it first before you got it. It was introduced in a funny way and that was that it didn't start from the beginning but was somewhere on the road and after overtaking it started to boost and if you didn't block immediately and all the time you would never had the chance to beat it again afterwards. :D
