How is it as a faction?

I gather that is not as good at research as the other factions but has a strong economy.

How does this translate in combat? Do they tend to focus on heavy ships like I suspect they might?

This is probably the faction I will end up playing as I love the theme of a human Empire in space sporting Victorian style space garbs. Reminds me of the 40K Imperium but with less grit (which is a good thing)

Also, how do I get the alpha?

Pre-order to get access to the alpha, also the United Empire ships look ALLOT like W40k ships in my opinion. That fact just added to the coolness factor of the game SOOOO much.

Also their dreadnaught is totally the caldari mothership from EVE.
