How do you demolish an existing building? The button is greyed out and appears nonfunctional. Is this feature disabled in the demo?

I notice you can, in the city screen, click on the icon for an existing building. It makes a 'knock down' sound, and the icon greys out, but it still does nothing towards razing the building.

So, I have no idea. Its obviously been thought of, what with the comment you can do it in the manual and all, but I just havent found out HOW to do it!

Yeah, I've been wondering this to, in fact I'm alt+tabbed out right now so I can read the forums, really need to switch my economy around to gear it for war.

I'm seriously consider scrapping the city and building another in it's place.

I believe you are actually just shutting down production from that building when you do that.

Yes this just shuts down a building (I'm unsure if it lasts for just one turn or until you turn bit back on again). This might not seem much use early one, but later there are some demanding structures (-10 gold for example to run) which might prove prudent to disable if ones economy suffers.

I've yet to find the destroy buildings tab - however to right just next to the town name banner is a destroy town button - as well as rename town button.

I was sure there was an "enter demolish mode" button in the beta test... very strange, can't find it now and I really need to destroy a building.

Well considering how the game is designed around buildings costing nothing to build only maintenance I suspect its intentional that your not able to destroy one building only raze the entire city. It's probably designed to make you carefully choose what you build with your limited population/space.

Yeah I'm definitely missing a demolish button in the full version. What's up with that? Hopefully it is being worked on. :p

Yeah i don't think they should add anything the ai isn't going to use (and i don't see it ever using that feature well)as this will make things even easier for the player.

That's probably the case, but it nevertheless gets extremely frustrating at times. E.g. I've got a quest to build a temple for some god I wouldn't mind to get some favor with, but the only holy ground within reach was deep in my opponent's territory with lvl 8 city built on it. So I had to fight my way through his defenses, and guess what - there was already some other temple built on the spot. Moreso, it didn't get razed after I captured the city (while literally every other building did), and I had like several turns left to complete the quest. Which could still be enough, if I was able do demolish the existing temple.

The demolish function seems to not be available right now....maybe in a patch soon?

When you stop production from a particular building (i.e. farm) and you grey/click on the building....this only seems to last for one turn. It would be GREAT if this would continue until you wanted to turn back on the production of this building. I have to do this every turn and it's quite annoying......

Folks seem to be saying that this has been corrected with the update that just came out today. I also hope the Demolish Buildings function is added soon. It was there in the demo but greyed out so it couldn't be used at all. Now it's just ... gone.

That's the time when you demolish the city and use the settler you get to build another city in the exact same place. Then you don't really need to worry about existing buildings, plus you can plan your build and if you have "bountiful harvest" you can have a size 3 or 4 city in no time.

I usually do just that, but there was not enough time: one has to raze the city, found a new one, wait till it reaches certain level (I don't know if you can build the temple right away in lvl 1 city) and then begin to contruct the temple.

That beginner guide thing said it showed underneath the building list, but it's nowhere to be seen ingame. Could really use one.

Also, the game forces you to build, even if you don't want to (or get the prompt indefinitely, which is a burden). That's really lame, since I had a city that could only build an Excavation which crippled my economy. Having a choice would be nice.

Although you're shown the building prompt, you actually don't have to build anything if you don't want to. Just press the Enter key and it should skip to the next turn, although the prompt will still continue to be shown each and every turn which could become annoying.

To be fair buildings cost nothing save upkeep - and if you can't afford the upkeep just disable the building as soon as its built. You get built notifications each time they are finished so you can keep tabs and the recent patch fixed building activation so that buildings remain disabled when turned off (just click on the building icon on the main screen when the city is selected).

Note there is a abuse possible at the moment because it seems disabled buildings don't disable build lists - also it seems that there is little to no actual negative effect of disabling buildings (eg expensive top tier production centres). Thus one can abuse this if one so chooses, to lower the upkeep cost per turn - however I suspect this is something that will be patch fixed.
