AngryAngus over on TF2Maps.net has generously volunteered to decompile and upload the maps from the official game. Loading them up in Hammer and looking at how they were constructed is a good learning tool for new mappers or anyone who just hasn't mapped for this particular game before and from my experience the standard tools for decompiling seem to have issues, so I figured I'd post the link:

He says he'll keep updating with new files every time Valve updates their maps, so keep checking back on weekends!

Isn't it illegal to decompile maps ? If they were decompile protected?

As long as you dont release them as your own maps.

With working areaportals and stuff?

Areaportals never work in decompiled maps. But the brushes are still there, so you can see where they are. The point of decompiled maps isn't to edit and recompile them anyway; it's to use them to figure out how the designers did stuff.
