so i've started playing through all the classics with my first being sonic 1 and there is one thing i am slightly confused on. does sonic CD happen BEFORE or AFTER sonic 2? i know it came out later but from what i could find on the official sega site for the game with the plot summery (that didnt include the events of CD) it sounds like sonic 3 happens dirrectly after 2 so that means CD had to happen after sonic 1.

but im still not sure so i need some help so i can understand the entire 2D series completely. thanks in advance for any help

There's no official word on when Sonic CD happens, but it makes sense for it to be between Sonic 1 and 2.

Probably between 1 and 2. Evidence:


There's a secret picture of Tails in Sonic CD saying "See you next game (http://i.imgur.com/PNTPC.png)" which would suggest that CD was supposed to come out before 2.
Sonic looks identical to how he does in Sonic 1.
Sonic 3 appears to take place straight or soon after Sonic 2. If Sonic CD took place between them it'd odd that Sonic would never bother going Super during the events of CD, because he would have had all the chaos emeralds.
Sonic's spindash is really weird in CD. Perhaps he's only first inventing it then before he perfects it in Sonic 2?

Id put it after sonic 1 because Sega Japan was working on Sonic CD at the same time as Sega of America where making Sonic 2 however Sega dedicated to release Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive and release Sonic CD the following year on the Mega CD.

Really though there is no official time for when Sonic CD takes place and no game has referenced it yet. Id suggest playing Sonic 1,2 3&K then CD for story order and that the gameplay in CD is different to that of the main 3.
