View Full Version : Driver issues with 12.4?

Since updating my 7850 to 12.4 Ive notived that when my GPU has been idle for >10 min. and the screen turns off the GPU fan starts to run in bursts.
It sounds like it completely stops spinning and then suddenly jumps to ~80% for ~1 second and then stops completely again for ~5 seconds and then this pattern repeats itself.

Fan control should be set to default, since CCC won't install on my system and no other control programs are running.
(And no old-driver-issues involved in this, the problem started just after the system was build, see http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2689735 as this is a separate discussion that doesn't belong here)

Ive also experienced more glitches in Deus Ex, bus this pattern isn't consistent enough for me to safely blaim 12.4 yet.

Anyone else experiencing this?

No problems with 12.4 here. You might want to try asking at the Guru of 3d forum (http://forums.guru3d.com/), I've gotten help there with these sorts of problems before.

I can only use 12.3 and 12.4 but I might end up going back. But obviously I would prefer not being stuck at 12.3.

If Im the only one with this problem it might even be caused by something else, would be some coincidnce though.

EDIT: Thanks I might try that.

there is a hotfix but it doesn't affect your card but wouldn't hurt to try it

Yes im having problems with 12.4 too (6950). Whenever I update it, after the next restart, CCC says it is back to 12.3 and that the last update was in march. staying on 12.3 seems to give very bad performance when running 3 screen though, it cant even play a video file without major slow-downs, which didnt happen before the first update.

I might try that, but since it shouldn't affect my card I highly doubt it will help.

Sorry to hear that, though it seems to be unrelated to my issue.

I've tried updating my drivers like 3 or 4 times and every time I install "12.4" it tells me I have 11.11 installed in CCC. Which is odd because to bein with I had 12.1 I think. I kinda stopped updating for a while because ATI drivers are useless anyways. Regardless it utterly perplexes me as to how the drivers could actually install BACKWARDS, unless CCC is broken as all hell and says 11.11 when in fact it is 12.4 I have no idea what's going on.
