Capcom announced that SFXTK sales so far are a lot less than what they expected and the blame canibalism for it. :):) It seems like canibals ate the game instead of buying it!:) Capcom still has not realize that it was their own policies that it killed the sales of it.

After this capcom must have learned their lesson and when they release their next fighter in 2013 if they are smart enough then they must not have locked context and on disc DLC

They're not entirely wrong, but that has far less impact than they make it out to be.
FGs are a niche, a very small niche on PC, so small sales would be entirely understandable here (not to mention the entire dlc fiasco and the bugs, which are getting patched, so I don't mind).
But on the consoles, I think the market IS nearing a point of saturation where any more games will sell less.

in this article they are talking about console sales. And dont forget that SSF4 AE is the best selling capcom game on pc right now. I am sure that SFXTK can sell at least if no more as good as SSF4 AE sold on pc.
And fighting gerne is a nich genre in general not only on pc. Evry year there are released about 5-10 new fighters on consoles and 1 or 2 on pc. But there are hundreds of fps and third person shotter games released evry year. Most companies dont even make fighting games at all. Only a few companies make fighters and as i said while there are tons of fps and tps evry year there are only about 10 fighters evry year.

Although I believe you, I find it hard to believe that SSF4 AE is their best selling on PC. I bought the game about 1 month ago, and I can never find players around my rank ( C ). 7/10 times I just play with people ranked well above me, as new players are very rare to find. I fought a guy ranked 97 once, that gives you an idea of what I am talking about. I bought SFxT just to avoid that, and I have only played the online twice due to the lagg. Funny enough both players new how to play the game quite well, but they were no where near beginners.

I came here for the topic name.
I am dissapoint at the "cannibalism" being an actual economic term.

I'm afraid that comparing FGs to most other game genres is a little wrong. FGs require a lot of dedication to get any enjoyment out of them (when playing online, only winning is fun. It's a little different with friends), whereas shooter games require virtually zero dedication (unless you're going competitive).
Point is that FGs have a lower saturation point, because you can only have so may FGs you can spare the time to get good/decent at.

At the moment, this game screams "PIRATE MEEEEEEEE"
Its online part is not functioning well. Offline works reasonably well.
So I dont see any reason why people should pay to play this game.
Potential buyers: Move on to greener pastures, I say. At least for now. For all we know, this game will see its QA goal completed only by the end of 2012, when a sizable roster and patch comes up.
As I implied in the other thread, **** CAPCOM AND ALL THEIR PRACTICES.

The reason I've personally not bought this game so far is that it apparently doesn't even work online proper. Sooo, they can blame whatever they want really. But for me, that's simply it.
Why would I buy a game I can't even play with my friends?
And a game like this is MADE to be played with other people.
If you ask me... So yea.
Soon as they fix that and the game goes on sale..
I'll buy it. But never ever the DLC. Ever.

pc version has been out for only 4 days now. But it will sell at least as good as SSF4 AE if not better after the release of the patch that will fix the online bugs

Sales for this game for PC will pick up once they patch this crap. I ain't touched this because of it and i almost want a refund. AE netcode is better. Id rather slow downs instead of a skiping CD effects online.

Good Luck with that
SF4 Arcade Edition has never been on sale on steam so I don't think SFxT ever will.
I don't see too many capcom games on sale at all come to think of it.

Well that's not really true.
It was 50% off during a holiday sale.

Admittedly I myself am waiting for the ultra version. They do it with every fighting game and I'm not about to buy the version that won't be used in 6 months. Also 50$ is a pretty high price tag for a fighting game. Considering just how little goes into it 40$ is the most I'm paying and that's assuming there isn't a butt load of DLC to buy on top. Capcom is going crazy with costume packs when the funny thing is I'd never be caught dead wearing the crap. Every time I see someone wearing the costumes I know I already won because it's some dumb kid that doesn't even know how to play.

Capcom will NEVER learn their lesson.
Look what they did to people who wanted DLC characters and spectator mode on MVC3 to UMVC3. You had to buy the whole game AGAIN.
MONEY MONEY THEY FAP ON MONEY DISGUSTING.

I bought this for the PS3 on release day. I never buy games on release day. So many dream matchups for all of us who grew up with both games.
This is honestly the first street fighter/tekken game I truly regret buying. I hate saying that.

I dont get it why they dont want to admit it was their own fault that kill the game.
To this date you see "customers"(one must ask oneself) that have the galls to defend their notorious practices where namco doesnt do this. Expect no less from Dragon's Dogma, on day one expect hackers to unlock stuff to play on the first day while we wait for more than 3 months for paid unlockers just like Street x Tekken.
Theres over $100 and more on dlc, what we got was less than %50 of that, all of the dlc was made during development and there's no new dlc coming, just unlockers, unlock keys.
So their plan is to get more than 50 bucks off from this game which I will respectfully decline to give, while other consumers are not bothered to give more that 75 bucks for one game only.
tl;dnr version
It was their own practices fault and they used "lets blame everyone else" card meaning that their own product was not attractive in the first place.

Marketing. They're not allowed to say that the game is bad unless they're going for the "Wisconsin Heartfelt Gambit". Only once they fix the problems at hand will they be allowed to say "Hey. We dun goofed." as they don't want to steer away potential customers.
Rip-Offs.
