Ubisoft are well known for their disdain for PC gamers, poor ports, terrible DRM, lying about said terrible DRM, and generally being pretty evil. Don't forget this when their games go on sale, and don't reward them for this behaviour. It's just not worth it.

And? So you are saying if a person finds a game enjoyable they shouldn't purchase it and just not play it by "Not rewarding Ubisoft". K.

I will remind everyone that this specific titles don't have that kind of DRM, and an Offline Mode was added to most of the games that created that backlash.
Don't forget to reward Ubisoft for seeing that always-on DRM was wrong, and removing it from their products. If you don't reward Ubisoft for changing their ways, then they won't. Don't fall for this disinformed posts.

I agree that EA are worse, I'm aware the GR series does not have their always-on DRM. I'm also aware that Steam is a form of DRM. However Steam has always had an offline mode, and Steam already offers the same amount of protection as UbiDRM. There's no requirement for them both.
As for their newer games, they continue to release stuff that's sub-par, largely thanks to their attitudes towards PC gaming, and DRM. Go look at the Anno 2070 forum. I'll wait. Here's a link.

It's FULL of people who can't play their game, because of Ubi's DRM. Similar things are happening to Assassin's Creed players. Forum link:

Same for Driver: San Francisco
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1227
Then there was the From Dust fiasco. Don't forget these, and I encourage you to avoid Ubisoft until they start doing the right thing.

In the same way that caffeine and crack are both drugs, not all DRM is the same.
Steam clearly gets it right as you rarely see people complaining about it and ubisoft have unnecessary restrictive drm which is why you see people refuse to support their games.
Still, these games are from well before the time of DRM and so there is really no reason to refuse to buy them.

Ubisoft and ea are about equally as bad in their own ways.

Most people I find who complain about Ubisoft's DRM think that UPlay is DRM. Just shows you they don't have a clue what's going on.

I'm not familiar with Ubisoft's DRM; is it anything like GFWL?
If it is, then ♥♥♥♥ it.

No it isn't anymore, and Ghost Recon never had something like that.

How about this thought? If many buy the old Ubisoft games that don't have ♥♥♥♥ty DRM and not buy the new games with ♥♥♥♥ty DRM, they'll go "HM, MAYBE WE'LL CHANGE THIS INTRUSIVE DRM..." Or maybe who gives a ♥♥♥♥? I play a lot of Ubisoft games and have never had a problem with any DRM. In fact, despite playing many PC games the only DRM that I've had a problem with was an EA game. YEAH, EA, OH WHAT TRASHY PIGS, ETC, ETC. I contacted EA about it in a live chat and the dude was a complete ♥♥♥♥head, so I contacted them by e-mail and the response I got was informative, straight to the point but very kind and nice. The matter was resolved extremely quickly and got a 15% coupon out of it.
Seems like people jump on the hating bandwagon more every day.

They already changed the DRM, and patched all the older games. Your point is? I could only make out pink hearts...

I love hippsters. Hey guys hate a company cause a large portion of computer users are too stupid to use their products correctly. I own a lot of UBI games. I've NEVER had an issue with any of them.
L2computer maybe?

So much wrong with it the best you could respond with is an aids remark a 12 year old would make.
Yep so much wrong with it.
You know what the only constant in all of the computer games people have problems with? Human stupidity. For every stupid person playing a game, having issues, and crying on the internet. There are two people who know how to work their systems, have no issues, and don't feel the need to cry cause they are having fun playing the games.

Whatever you say pal. Keep using the word hipster when you obviously have no idea what it means.
Back on the subject of the OP, there is very little if any point to boycotting ubisoft. People have tried it before and it never works. Besides, the Ghost Recon games were before their atrocious DRM, and they are actually pretty good games.

oh you're a genius aren't ya.. takes years of experience to know how to click "launch" game. just because you never had a problem doesn't make you the smart one and make others stupid.

Yeah, but sure is dressed up nicely with voice chat and achievements. That's not a DRM I mind.
The one I do mind is the one in Diablo 3 and Anno 2070. This always on junk needs to go. So far I only have 7 hours in Diablo 3 because of the stupid error 37 or server not available problems.

So does the Ghost Recon series on Steam include any 3rd party DRM or not? Other websites like GamersGate list the games as having Tages DRM, which is what I've also read on some other forums. This stuff often makes its way into the Steam versions of games.

to be honest first ghost recons (up to GRAW2) are ok, DRM FREE getitng them for 7.5 USD is bargain but that Future soldier thing is just a waste of money

i don't mind a boycott. it saves me money, and principles are something everyone should have, even for the small stuff. i stopped shopping at gamestop after the deus ex incident last year, i don't buy capcom outside of phoenix wright because of their on-disc dlc and generally anti-consumer sentiments.
now, that last one is important. corporations are very much like large, powerful, stupid dogs. they have to be trained. i support what i like about capcom, and make sure i state why i don't support them elsewhere.
i'm not saying people should buy GRAW or the other ghost recon games, but do show that you'll buy a game from them with fairer DRM than the always on connection that the newer titles demand. the older games that launched with it and have since had it tuned back aren't enough for me, personally.
the better example is to buy the games where you feel the DRM is acceptable, and make sure it's known that the DRM in other titles that you are interested in is holding you back.

Yes. They are pretty fun games, more so than others, but still good games to own. Ghost Recon has a dated feel to it and is a little awkward to play, but it is still a great game.

Are you saying that if they're DRM free the deal is a bargain? Or are you saying that you've confirmed they're DRM free and the deal is a bargain? I'm really curious if anyone knows if Tages is in this version or not.

Yep, they are indeed DRM free. But for those saying the newer games have had the DRM patched out, that's just not true. The Assassin's Creed series, Anno 2070, Driver: San Francisco - these all have the always-on DRM.
