View Full Version : Worth the effort?

I was going to ask the usual "Is it worth it?"-question, but I read the sticky and now I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort?

There seem to be a number of issues surrounding this game, and seeing as how it's a Valver and not someone from Lucas posting the thread about issues and fixes, it seems LucasArt couldn't care less.

I checked the video, and wasn't too impressed.

Yeah, it seems that sticky tells the whole story. If people have to change their regional settings, delete registry items and what not, then the game is an example of terrible programming. After all these workarounds, there are still people indicating they cannot play the game. And to top it, those who have tried to contact LucasArts all say they never got any reply.

Definite no buy for me, no matter how cheap it is.

It worked fine out of the box for me, on a non-English system, for 24h ... then it just stopped and threw a .NET error message according to my old reply from 2009.

I don't recall what I did to fix it ... but I do remember that I played the entire game and earned all achievements.
It's not a complex game, it isn't even a very good game ... but it was very "zen" and I did manage to enjoy it quite a bit after I got it to work and got the hang of things.

It can be quite a relaxing and fun experience, and it's quite a beautiful game as well. But there are a couple of slightly frustrating gameplay elements to get used to and some people might experience technical issues.

For people that can truly enjoy this type of gameplay, it is worth the gamble ... for the others, not so much.

Yeah, after reading that sticky, uh, I can safely say I'm not willing to take the risk... Thief 1 & 2 are awesome games and they are also on sale. If you're looking to play an older game, might as well be one of the best PC games of all time, not some weird game that probably won't run.

I just got it today.

If it makes a difference, it works perfectly for me on a windows 7 machine without doing any fixes to it.

I would say it is worth it at this price, even if you had to do a fix to make it work.
