As I mentioned on another site, I think too many businesses downplay free samples. A friend of mine gifted me a 24 hour pass on Madballs during a steam sale and I purchased the game after playing it a while. I was able to give a 24 hour pass to a friend who purchased the game.

On another Steam sale, I was allowed to gift a free Serious Sam First Encounter when I purchased the Gold pack. The gamer I gifted the First Encounter to enjoyed it enough to buy the gold pack and he gifted the First Encounter to someone else.
