I wanted to inform Thief and Thief II players of a potential performance enhancement. It seems to have worked for me as it seems to make the game run with smoother FPS. Here's what to do.
Simply go into where you installed Steam. Find the folder steamapps, then common, and Thief Gold and Thief II's folders will be under here. Under each game folder is a file called ddfix.cfg, a configuration file that was used in the infamous res fix for the first two Thief games as well.
At the very bottom of the file you will see three strings. The first one looks like this..
UseSysMemOverlay=2
Change the 2 to a 0 so it looks like this..
UseSysMemOverlay=0
I seem to have gotten much better performance and smoother FPS from Thief and Thief II after this tiny adjustment. If anyone else tries this let me know how it works for them.

It's ddfix.ini file not a ddfix.cfg. and Testing now. If works I'll add it to the enhancement thread.

Urgh yeah. They're both ini actually I think. I dunno. Stupid newer versions of Windows you don't see extensions as much anymore like you did in the old school days of Windows. But yeah, let me know what you think Ken. I noticed it ran much smoother when I changed that option to 0.

I use Win7 64bit... And as an Advanced user I enable file extensions in file the name that way I can see them and change them if need be. And I tested it and it does run a much smoother But FYI there are 2 of these options. But the one you are referring to is the "Blit the overlay from back buffer" system. Switching it could cause potential hiccups later on so I won't recommend it till i get further in the game make sure that doesnt happen :)

Told ya. I was just playing and I was about to come comment, definitely works. It's a good little option to point out anyway as it is sitting in there hidden where no one would find it.
