The game works up until the Social Club menu where I have to log in to activate the game but after I click sign in the game says 'Please ensure you have internet access'. I have tried everything from updating my nvidia drivers to disabling firewalls. This only seems to happen on MP3 as I am able to log into Social Club through LA Noire. PLEASE HELP :(:(

What is the problem?
- Sometimes it gets stuck on "Initializing..."
- Sometimes it gets stuck on "Initializing..." but I can get past it via ALT + TAB
- If I can get past "Initializing..." sometimes I get stuck trying to sign in to Rockstar Social Club (Please ensure you have internet access and try again)
- If I can, by some miracle, get past "Initializing..." and sign in, then I can't link my Rockstar and Steam accounts, it just doesn't work.
What have I tried?
- Verify game cache
- Disable Steam community
- Restart PC
- Yelling
- Reinstall Rockstar Social Club
- Opened ports
What is my system?
- Core i5-760
- 8GB DDR3
- GTX 570 SLI (latest WHQL driver)
- Windows 7 64-bit

With the sheer amount of problems I'm having just trying to get past the start screen, I have to say this is not looking good. I get the feeling it could be weeks before we are able to play.

Social club has just gotten worse with age. It was bad with gta4. Worse with La noire, for the most part rendering the game inoperable due to net frame work issue unless you are very savvy. And now a brand new fresh install of MP3 completely hosed because of something quite trivial and unnecessary. For the love of hope, if your gonna force this crap on us make sure the sh** works with default windows installations in the first place.

Ah yes there is a way to get it working, but it isn't any of things rockstar suggested wink wink nudge nudge. Very upset with social club and a waste of an evening getting it working, but at least it works now.

I never thought anyone would make somehting worse than games for windows live, but Rockstar managed to do it.

Yes that is what i did, at least the SP works - but we need a solution for MP. R* has said make sure port 443 is open to authenticate, and under firewall inbound under MP3 far as i can tell its open, anyone have an idea where else i might look to open that port?

YOU THINK THAT IS BAD I CANT EVEN PLAY THE GAME BECAUSE I WAS TOLD TO DELETE MY SOCIAL CLUB ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO CHANGE MY in-game name. So I did, and then re-linked my accounts to get my stats back. But when I start the game it asks me to activate my steam account with this stupid ♥♥♥♥ing socialclub account again. I press yes and get an error saying, Redemption Code in already in use. Im like no ♥♥♥♥ because its on this account. LOL ♥♥♥♥ SOCIALCLUB AND ♥♥♥♥ ROCKSTAR

Got it working - not sure if this did it, but here is what i did.
Windows 7 64 here btw.
1. Control panel
2. type "Firewall" into search
3. Windows Firewall
4. go to advanced settings on the left pane
5. Go to Inbound Rules
6. Go to new rule (right side pane)
7. select port then hit 'next'
8. under specify local port type 443
9. hit next then allow this connection
10. when rule to apply - leave all checked
11. name it what u want like max payne auth
12. then hit finish.
After that i got rid of any files that were not original to the steam version :) and verified cache.
As soon as i went in the auth window came up. Hope this helps fellas!! Its working finally. Too bad i got no more time to play hehe.

I was able to play the game for about two hours after launch. In the process I wanted to try my hand in multiplayer, but I wanted to change the information, like my name and such, of my Rockstar social club profile. I deleted my old account and made a new one, not knowing the repercussions. I tried to play the game next morning and was met with a request to enter my CD key for the game, I signed into my current profile and typed in the code. An error message informed me that my code had already been redeemed. I think that the mandatory linking of the Rockstar profile to the game is a HUGE mistake and it should be made clear that if you proceed to make a new one that it might create some problems. I hope that Rockstar can provide me with a new key or a better solution to my troubles, I deserve that much...

Social club kept saying needed internet.
Rebooted.
Went to the exe file
c:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\max payne 3\Max Payne 3\
Right click on MaxPayne3.exe
Select properties
Compatibility tab
Check box "Run this program as an administrator"
This allowed me to sign in and it could see the internet.
Now to wait/work on "checking Activation. Please wait ..."

As far as I can tell there is no problems on my end.
Watching the network traffic for the MaxPayne3.exe it has problem making connections.. and when it does it slowly loses the connections.
Maybe the signin server are being overloaded?

This is not a problem on our end. They messed something up, seems like we have to wait for an official fix.
If we are lucky, we will get it this week. BUT, since its Rockstar, i would bet they release the fix together with the 2. DLC.
(That is, if they acknowledge the issue and dont just slam a "Its a firewall error" in our faces again.)

The more I think about this the more I start to think there's no way they can fix this in a reasonable amount of time. It seems this problem lies deep in the jungle of code and networks between Steam, Social Club, and Max Payne 3, across two companies' servers, and the problem will not be easy to reproduce as most people do not have this problem. I think it is very reasonable for those of us who have been affected to ask for a refund because it appears, for us, this game will be literally unplayable for a long time.

If you pay attention closely (I can't be the only one with this) when this happens, Steam loses network connection at the same time RSC gives the "internet access" error.

I FIXED IT GUYS! I manage to fix mine at least. I'll keep it simple, here we go:
1. Disable/uninstall .Net framework 4
2. Disable .Net framework 3.5 and UAC
3. Delete all traces of rockstar social club
4. Restart computer after step 2 and 3 is complete
5. Re-Enable .Net framework 3.5 and UAC
6. Start Max Payne in admin mode
7. Play game and continue to wait for Rockstar to do their job.
NOTE - To play online you must redo steps 2 and 5 before starting up Max Payne 3.
I hope this helps you all, spread around the fix to anyone who is having similar problems! :D
