Questions from a release-era player

Back in the days when I was stoked to have dial-up, I bought JKII. Didnt play it online much because online game play was a joke. somehow getting broadband coincided with getting JKJA. I played a lot online (my first online game actually). Still have my original discs.So:

Can I play with steam folks if I reinstall this? If not, can I put my copy on steam? "+ add a game"?
Where is the CD Key. If there is one, then I have it (I'm not asking for a key). I just don't know where. Don't tell me this game pre-dates CD Keys?
Does this game have a community? I quit because everyone else did way back in the day.
Is everyone still "Guns aren't cool. you're only cool if you stand around and bow at each other but otherwise refuse to do any violence, but you also have to be dark side. And you can't do any unsolicited non-consensual violence. Because that's "lame.""
Which version? Patches? Where?

I would assume you can play with Steam players, however I don't know. I bought it at release too! And loved it, until the discs were too scratched up from some much love... :(
And I'm not for sure, but I don't remember a CD Key, however I would check the usual places, booklet and case. However I'm not sure you'd even need to add it to Steam or if it would even work. But you could try clicking "+ ADD A GAME..." and "Activate a product on Steam...".

There is no CD Key. Or at least, I haven't found it and the game runs fine.
It appears linking it to steam is totally unnecessary. Good news. Because I don't know how that would work without a key.

Empty servers insist on having bots -_- what a waste of time. How inconsiderate. If I wanted to play by myself with bots then I would make a private server.

The Laming nonsense still seems widespread, luckily people are usually willing to fight once in a while if your annoying enough. And there's even a few free servers here and there.

There seems to be no Duel servers with force powers? What an interesting disregard for game features and the whole star wars universe. Also, there seems to be either no force at all, or crazy force regen (which is IMO the reason that people don't like force at all).
