so on the store page it states "And yes, your grinding efforts that you play in the online single player mode prior to July 10 is kept for both the coop and future PvP expansion as well! "
because at the moment the game is offline single player only, dose this mean that any progress i make on my offline will not be available for me when i try to co op online with my friends?

Well, if they follow the way most companies do now a days to avoid cheating and such, I would say offline characters won't be available for online play.
But I suppose we will have to wait for an answer from Fatshark about it

I'm also wondering about this. I have a feeling offline won't carry over as there's a high likelyhood of people cheating and bringing those characters over if that's the case. That said, I really don't want to put time into it yet if the progress won't carry over. It says Online Single Player progress before July 10th which suggests it will be available before the co-op goes in?
Really curious to the answer to this as I'm likely not going to touch the game until I know what's working where.

Completely agree with wiredhands. Offline <-> Online character development only promotes cheating - in particular as offline cheating won't be caught when cheating online can be.
I think you should point your distaste toward little kids (including adult kids) who cheat cause they can and don't care about others having fun.

Online seems to be limited to co-op though, and seems to be invite based. Cheaters might not be a huge issue if you know who you're going to be playing with to begin with which is the only reason why I think they might do offline to online. Would likely jack up any sort of trade economy going on though, so maybe not.

They're adding co-op first and then PvP later after that. I doubt either mode will be invite-only. Probably more like a lobby system with a joinable game list.

Lol at those comments about offline promotes cheating.
Diablo II, III, Dungeon Defenders, this & that. Everywhere, there is a cheater. Sure, offline promotes even more, but making everything online is not the way to go.
Oh, if anybody is going to say that Diablo III is perfectly protected, go to the forums and enjoy your popcorn.

Swapping characters between online and offline does promote cheating. However online only characters promotes cheating, as does offline only characters. If someone wants to cheat, they'll do it, it doesn't matter how they do it.
However, the question has been answered.
Well it is a mix. You will use your single player (Online mode) characters from the campaign but the coop instances will be specially designed dungeons and levels. This is because they need to be adopted to suit for coop play. But the loot (and injuries!) you get from coop is brought back to the single player and the other way around.

Hi,
yes we won't allow offline characters into online games (whether its single player, pvp and coop).
The Online mode is working at our end but we need to just nail the last bits to ensure its stability before releasing it to the public. Still, the first version will probably be little less stable than the offline mode but your progress will be saved and we will continue working on the stability as our highest prio.
The first build with online should be very very soon, like any day now.

So, let me make this clear.
You have offline single player mode. This is the mode that is live now.
There is also online single player mode. Obviously this requires a constant internet connection to play. Tied to this mode is Co Op and PvP. For Co Op there will be specific dungeons for this mode. Unique dungeons for online co op only? Will these have unique items, blueprints and such as well?
I'm... just... Well, what I'm getting at is, what about offline single player? Is the content between online and offline going to be the same or will there be online exclusive content?
Also, I take it the online character data is stored on Fatshark's servers? Is there any plan for the ability for a player to copy that data to their offline save file? Dungeon Defenders is the perfect example for this. The only reason I ask is... well.. no online game lasts forever, be it company issues or server stability.
This seems like such a great game, but the separation of offline and online, when it was stated to be seamless... just irks me....especially post purchase...
...dammit.

In a sense, I don't think the content is any different online. Dungeons are randomized, of course, so this means they'll be different every time you run through them. Whether online or offline. So obviously the loot will be randomized along with the dungeons.
They plan to add a lot more content to the game over the coming months and possibly years, and that content will be available in both online and offline modes.

Hi,
There will be the no difference between content available for both online and offline, part for the coop dungeons (but I guess we could make them available for soloing as well) and PvP arenas. The only thing that will differ is where the progress is stored and which game modes you can access.
I guess we will have to look into a way to transfer data stored at our servers to local clients should we in the future be forced to close the servers. But we don't think that is a necessary thing to do within a foreseeable future. Our plan is to support this title for a long time. That is why we state that one of the key features for the game is post release updates and support.
It is great that you voice you concerns, we are trying to cover all potential issues but the subject is pretty complicated.

We are discussing allowing people to port their offline profiles to the onlines ones when online goes live but we haven't decided yet.
That would be a one off.

It's almost scary how fast you devs post here. You're... you're like... SHARKS! ...
*ahem*
But yes, thank you for even acknowledging my concerns. To be honest, this is what tipped me over to this side of the fence. The connection between devs and players is rare these days. Thanks for making our opinions worthwhile.

I really hope we can transfere our offline characters to online mode once it goes online. It would be a HUGE motivation killer if I couldn't use my characters I played many hours with in coop-mode just because online mode wasn't implemented at the beginning...
