I installed the game and every time I run it, I get a message saying that the game has stopped working. I've googled multiple solutions to this problem and so far none have worked. Verifying the cache, restarting steam and my computer, updating drivers and installing any new windows updates and it continues to say the same thing. This doesn't happen with any other game but this one. Please help!

I don't know how to fix it, but I have the same exact problem! According to the specs listed on the store page, I should be more than okay. It's pretty rare that I can't find the solution to a game related problem by googling, but I'm stumped.

We are actively tracking down what would cause this for the upcoming patch. Very sorry you are having issues. Could you try a few things for me?

Find Quantum Conundrum in your games library, right click on it and go to 'Properties'.
Under the General Tab select 'Set Launch Options...'
Add -ResX=### -ResY=### where the #'s are your monitors native screen resolution
Also experiment with running the game in windowed by adding -windowed to the launch options

Please let me know the results.

I tried changing the resolution to my native, and then to several others, with no results. Also tried windowed mode, nothing.

Interesting, that looks like a crash in the AlienFX integration, ie the code that changes your PC lights during the game. Sadly, there is no easy way to disable the AlienFX integration (it enables / disables based on if it can find and load the LightFX.DLL) Are you running the game on an AlienWare machine? You might try getting the latest LightFX.DLL from Alienware (1.0.7.0 I think.) You might also try renaming that DLL so it can't be found by QC, just to see if it'll launch.

In the next patch we are including a -disableAlienFX launch parameter you can run with that should alleviate this crash.

I am running on an alienware, how do I rename the dll so that QC can find it?

"Adds a -disableAlienFX launch option that disables the light change stuff. Please try and use this if you are getting crashes trying to launch the game! Or if you don't want to see your keyboard changing colors all the time."

Try adding that to your launch properties - just got patched in.

I appear to be having a similar experience. My PC is down at the bottom of the minimum spec (but with a Windows Experience of 5.1!).

When I hit PLAY steam always seems to want to install the Microsoft VC distributable (which I assume is a runonce thing that never gets a success flag set). However, when this finishes (and I've hit a couple of 'this program wants to change something on your hard drive is that ok' type dbs) TryGame-Win32 never manages to load, and I get a window that says 'Quantum Conundrum is not working'

Tried numerous fixes suggested by this board, but without success.

This is on a Windows 7 32-bit system. Fault looks like this:

Faulting application name: TryGame-Win32-Shipping.exe, version: 1.0.8623.0, time stamp: 0x4fe7b0b8
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17651, time stamp: 0x4e2111c0

[although it's probably time I bought a new GFX card]

So I went out and bought a new GFX card, and my AMD/ATI HD 7700 1GB is just what the doctor ordered. So my probs were an under-specified gaming machine. Oh dear.

Still it's just joyous now!

PLayed the game no problem on release. But after the latest update I get an immediate crash. Any ideas?

Is it giving you any output when it crashes or just crashing to desktop?

So, I played the game after it came out and even have two screenshots in my profile to prove it, but now it just crashes when I try to run it. I cannot say which update exactly screwed things up for me. While I admit that my PC is at the very bottom of or even below the required specs, it ran as good [or bad] as an UE3 game can...

The following is dumped into the clipboard [a logs folder like every other UE3 game has would be nice...]:
Fatal error!

Address = 0xc5a86d (filename not found) [in {steamapps}\common\Quantum Conundrum\Binaries\Win32\TryGame-Win32-Shipping.exe]
Address = 0x606a7a (filename not found) [in {steamapps}\common\Quantum Conundrum\Binaries\Win32\TryGame-Win32-Shipping.exe]
Address = 0x606e4d (filename not found) [in {steamapps}\common\Quantum Conundrum\Binaries\Win32\TryGame-Win32-Shipping.exe]
Address = 0x61386f (filename not found) [in {steamapps}\common\Quantum Conundrum\Binaries\Win32\TryGame-Win32-Shipping.exe]

{steamapps} is obviously truncated as the full path shouldn’t be relevant.

The mentioned AlienFX parameter doesn’t make any difference. The PC is an Athlon 64 3500+, running Vista Business x86, with an ATI Radeon X1950 GT [driver v10.2 which is the latest].
