I love Valve and Steam. Some of these topics are great asking for features that will really help but they don't get implanted to Steam. So do Valve employees ever see these topics? And if hey do how much do they look at it?

Yes, they do. They have posted before saying they do come here and read the posts.

Thanks. I was just curious.

Reading them is one thing.
Implementing them is another :P

Ideas like game trading and custom grid icons were suggested in here long before they were implemented. I think if a suggestion is popular and workable it is likely to be implemented.

As you say, there's a long delay between between the suggestion and the implementation.
There are lots of good ideas that don't get implemented too.
Considering both those things, it's little wonder people question if valve are reading them.
That's all I meant, really.

they should post on what they are working on based on community feedback

I don't think this will happen. I'm sure there are situations where they start working on a project but abandon it after a while because it proves to be unworkable. If they have already announced to the community that they are doing it then people will feel jarated if it is cancelled.

I think valve have learnt that building hype has few advantages (like one Anarchisteve mentions), and so keep quiet on a lot of stuff to minimise demand and speculation.
Personally, I'd be fascinated to hear about all the things they're considering, working on, or cancelling.
