Generally, not really. You could try to use the Win 7 virtual wifi if you can find drivers that support the air but the simpler solution is to get something like a cradlepoint router where you can pop your aircard into.

He should be able do that with 2 adapter

Wow the cradlepoint looks cool. Does it just automatically connect with compatible verizon air cards? Seems wierd not being able to see the connection happen on a screen.

He doesn't need 2 adapters or additional software, the verizon card is it's own adapter so you can turn your laptops built in WiFi card into an Adhoc network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_ad-hoc_network) and use internet connection sharing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Connection_Sharing).

The laptop is a pretty old dell with winxp. If it has wifi will xp work with the verizon adapter?
