Buying a second house

A while ago I bought my first house. It was for 7 gold, and it has 3 rooms, with about 40 spaces to put things.

Now that I have a lot more money, I want to get a bigger house (the 16 - 17 gold ones that have a lot more places to put things).

Are you allowed to have 2 houses in the game? Can you sell (get rid of) your first house? I'm not really sure if I want to keep the first house (although the extra trunks and places to put things might be nice) but I'm not sure what my options are.

I do appreciate any info on this.

You can have one personal house per server per account.

Houses come in three sizes: Standard, Deluxe (this is what you have) and Kinship. You must be a Kinship Leader in order to purchase a Kinship House.

Now, if you were the leader of a Kinship, you'd have to wait until your Kinship was a certain rank (Rank 5, I think?) before you can purchase a Kinship House. If you have one friend willing to help you out, starting a Kinship to purchase a bigger house isn't hard. It simply requires 8 characters to keep a Kinship alive. Notice I said characters and not accounts. You can start up a Kinship with two accounts and keep it alive with 1 as long as you had the available character slots.

What about trying to upgrade a house? My son bought the cheapest house a while ago, now he wants the medium house, but the game says that he already owns a house.

Is there a way to sell, abandon, trade, etc... an existing house to upgrade to a better one? Or once you buy a house, is that the one you will have throughout the rest of the game with no chance of upgrading?

Yes. You can abandon your current house. You'll get back any unspent upkeep, but that's about it. Once you abandon your house, you can purchase another one. You should be able to abandon the house through the Maintenance panel where you pay upkeep.

Edit: Also, any items you didn't unslot or remove from chests in the house will go in Escrow. You can retrieve those items through a Vault or Escrow NPC, located in bank area in major hubs such as Bree.

I'm also thinking about getting a Kin house for myself and know alot of players that have done this.

From what I've been told this is how it's done.

You will need to make multi accounts and make a kin and add all these's alts into it.

This kin will take 3 months to reach rank 7 and be abel to buy/own a kin house.
Also the kin leader will have to have the gold cap removed in order to buy the kin house.

When you have gotten your personal kin house make sure you put your main on the permissions if they are in a "normal" kin and Voilà you now have your new big house.
