This is probly the best bang for buck you can get for LOTRO right now.

I highly recommend the Steam Starter edition as it's very good value at $15
http://store.steampowered.com/app/213174/
The Monster kill 25% XP boost item + the account-wide best-specs horse +1000TP make it really worth it.
Areas included:
* North Downs
* Evendim
* Misty Mountains

Next, the 2000 Turbine Points alone from the Mithril Edition is worth the price of admission. Nice thing about its quest packs are that they complement & don't overlap with the Steam Starter version:
$9.99 at EBGames/Gamestop (Physical copy though I think):
* http://www.ebgames.com/pc/games/the-lord-of-the-rings-online-mithril-edition/97978
* Details: http://mithril.lotro.com/ (you'll note that the standard price is actually $29.99 which makes the EB Games deal pretty good).
Areas Included:
* Trollshaws
* Eregion
* Mines of Moria
* Lothlórien.

Get them both!

Finally, Quest packs are 50% off until the 19th, so between these deals, you should be able to grab almost every area at a really good price.

Here's a guide to the different quest packs and what levels they're for:

Finally, if you're just starting out or thinking of rolling and alt, consider joining Withywindle as it seems to have the highest population of new players right now, having been the recommended server recently - this makes questing easier and fun as pick up and play groups are easy to find. Consider joining our Kinship (aka guilds in other games), the Reddit Army on Withywindle. We love crafting stuff for each other, helping out new guys and getting them geared up.

If only I knew a way to take advantage of that Mithril Edition deal in Canada. :(

Just buy it like everybody else. I'm in Canada and I bought it no problem. Just create a Gamestop account and buy it from their website.

Of course I thought of that, but I believe they wanted $15 shipping. I didn't try to checkout to verify but that's what was listed on a shipping/help info page. That makes the total $25 and much less of a deal. It's still not a terrible price, but it's much less of a must-buy-now than $10 at a local store like it would be for an American.

On a different note, I'm new to the game but with the Steam pack being on sale, and the great 50% sales over at Turbine, I'm trying to decide what would be best for me to purchase. Steam Starter along with either Mithril or RoI Heroic or Legendary provide most regions with enough Turbine Points to buy all or most of the rest given the current sale. I'm just not sure exactly what's best for me yet.

I'm also torn between trying to get as much as I can for the best price possible now, and getting what I need for the near future and using earned TP to get more down the road.

edit: I just tried checking out and the shipping is $15. Also, due to shipping time I likely wouldn't get it in time to enter the code, get my TP, and then use them on discounted Quest Packs before the sale is over. :( Oh well.

I don't mean to appear dense, but which download are you refering to? The Mithril Pack at Gamestop is a physical item only as far as I can see. Am I missing something? There's no download option on this page (http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/the-lord-of-the-rings-online-mithril-edition/97978). If you know of a way to buy a downloadable Mithril Edition which includes the Turbine Points, I'd be interested to know about it.

If you mean to just purchase the included quest packs from Turbine, I could do that, but then I'd miss out on the great deal for the 2000 TP in this package. Oh, and the horse too, though I don't really care about that (much).

edit: After some googling, I see that there was a downloadable deal in April/May, but it seems to be physical only now. Bummer.

Not as nice as $9.99, but You can grab the digital edition from Impulse at $19.99 for Mithril:

http://impulsedriven.com/lotro

Already decent value for the Turbine Points alone.

New player here, looking for some advice on the current quest pack sale. I bought the Mithril digital edition today and have already bought Evendim and Misty Mountains, leaving me still with 1350TP. Given that everything's on sale, would you recommend that I buy as many quest packs as possible and then then use my deed-accrued TP for other purchases that I may need later? Any extra quest packs that I definitely should/shouldn't get? (in addition to the Mithril-bundled packs and Evendim/Misty, that is). Thanks in advance!

TOOB -> Nope. And if you choose to stop being VIP, you'll downgrade to Premium, not F2P and will keep all quest packs in Mithril, and any other commercial packages which include Quest Packs.

jha4ceb -> Definitely get 'em right now since they're on sale! You should have bought Steam Starter instead of spending your TP on Evendim & Misty Mountains though... oh well. In that case, North Downs is okay as it will allow you to get some reputation with the Dwarven faction Thorin's hall and help you get that goat mount faster...

I suggest asking at http://reddit.com/r/lotro on which packs are a must-have.

Thanks. I only wanted to spend money on one of Mithril Edition or Steam Pack, which is why I decided to spend some of the free TP on the quests that came in the Steam pack.

Can you buy one copy on Steam as a gift, and then a second copy for yourself at the sale price? I'm assuming (hoping) you can, but I thought I'd ask before trying it.

object404, and anyone else interested, I just saw that Mithril Edition dropped to $9.99 USD on Impulse/Gamestop Downloads (http://impulsedriven.com/lotro). I'm viewing this from Canada and it shows as $10.13 for me. I wonder if this has anything to do with the multiple emails I've sent them about this...

I just bought it (Mithril), grabbed the key from Impulse without having to download anything, and upgraded my account. A quick check in-game shows that it worked. Yay!

Just a quick question: can the Steam Starter Pack be applied to an existing LOTRO account which has not been installed with Steam ?

And thanks, you are answering the question I had, about if I had to download the full 10gig or simply redeem that code we get.
