So I read all about the workaround to get M:ME working on Windows 7 64-bit. I bought M:ME. I installed M:ME. I installed Quicktime 4, ticked every box except 'run in 256 colours', tried Win 98/ME and XP SP2 compatibility modes, disabled the Steam overlay, asked nicely, copied the quicktime.qts file from the SysWOW64 folder to the Myst folder, tried launching the game outside of Steam, did something else that I'm not remembering but it was quite a common piece of advice, sacrificed at least six virgins, cried and now I'm posting here. I haven't yet tried uninstalling then installing again but I'm in the process of downloading it again now to install it again. The game appears to launch, the resolution changes, then I get 'Myst.exe has stopped working' almost immediately afterwards.

This is really jarateing me off. Yes, I only paid £1.99 for it, but that's £1.99 I could've paid someone else for something that works, and if you add up the number of times I've paid less than £5 for a game that didn't actually end up working then the total is probably approaching £15 now or something. I suppose I can't blame Valve for selling it because it did come with a warning, but even so, how come some people got it working and I can't?

I bought Riven at the same time, I'm probably going to really regret that too, aren't I? I should've just gone to GOG instead.

Anyway, moan moan moan, if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

I cannot play it either because I cannot get the game to launch in compatibility mode. It plays for me without video, but if I enable compatibility mode the game won't launch, just throws a message box telling me how to turn off compatibility mode. If Steam is going to prevent usage of compatibility mode, it should really stop selling games for Windows 98

For whatever reason Quicktime 4 didn't work for me, but I tried it using quicktime 6. That did the trick
