View Full Version : From Software probably should have outsourced this

they admitted they didnt really have any experience making PC games. they mentioned having difficulty with this port (which is one of the reasons some PC gamers are finding it to be lacking). but if they were having difficulty why didnt they hire someone else? there are companies out there that solely exist to do ports to PC. some of them are actually pretty good. ports arent inherently bad (despite what people may say). but they do take proper care and attention. im not saying this is a bad port but from what From Software says, its not going to be great. hopefully, From has learned from their mistake and will let someone else handle their PC ports in the future.
dont get me wrong. im still excited that the PC is getting this game. i also love From Software and i have since i first played King's Field on my PS1. i even imported Demon's Souls when there was no US release planned. they make good games. im just not sure they were doing us a favor by handling this particular project themselves.

Given how piss poorly ND Games ported Ninja Blade I wonder if they felt they could do a better job themselves.

Maybe it is good they are doing it themselves, if only because now they will at least get some experience making it for PC, and their next games could go to PC from day 1, alongside consoles.
At least as long as DS sells well on PC.

If the next Souls games does release on the PC I wouldn't expect it day 1. From Software is not a big studio.

i see your point. im not very familiar with that game so i dont know how bad it is. but given how little i can find out about ND Games (your post is the first link on Google to give you a clue), they probably werent a very wise choice in the first place. one bad decision doesnt really justify another.

yeah this is true. its also another reason ive been a little perplexed by their undertaking of porting this game themselves. sure it seems like it may save money. but it takes a lot longer to code for PC when youre not very familiar with it, thus wasting money. it speeds up the process if you have a team with some experience.

I think its much better that they do it themselves.
They NEED the experience of working on the PC platform for themselves rather than out sourcing it the whole time.
More experience for them means more awesome FROM Soft games on the PC while also not risking game quality giving it to a different company (look at Resident Evil Operation Racoon City).

A simple little quote I have been hearing most of my life.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
The more PC experience FROM Soft get the better it is for them.

false analogy. software doesnt work like that since its a collective effort made by a team. you usually have people who specialize in certain areas. if they wanted to tackle this themselves, they should have hired a specialized staff who were familiar with the PC. that would be the best of both worlds. good port and they do it themselves.

As backwards as it may sound, I think it's better they did it. Ninja Blade was a terrible port. Most ports are handled by companies that do that stuff and a lot of them aren't handled well anyway. I don't think it's easy for anyone. But this way, any shortcomings are them, and I think that is the most mature thing a studio can do.
This topic is a Trojan Horse. There is no proof that a company that just does that will do any better, it's just an excuse. The people who have problems with this game are going to have them no matter what. Even if it ran at a constant 120 FPS, had a lot of graphic options and supported all conceivable resolutions, people would still find a reason to not buy this game.

WTF are you even talking about? your post is specious is full of fallacies. i never claimed what you are saying i claimed. i said there are good companies who are good at making PC ports. those companies would very likely do a better job since they have more experience. i stated in the above post (to another commenter) that there are other solutions. there was no reason for the company to undertake this project without at least hiring some skilled help. they didnt even need to outsource. outsourcing would just be the simplest solution since it wouldnt result in layoffs if they didnt intend to keep making PC ports.
also nice strawman at the end, but i have said nothing about those (check my history). its completely unrelated to this topic. im sticking to what we know. From has already come out and said they had a difficult time with this port.
and for you to come into this topic and insult me, a fan of From games, because youd rather ignore the evidence and lash out at others is just plain silly IMHO.
