How will the expansion work once released to play?

To me "expansion" means you need to own the original game too, but there are exceptions, so I might be wrong :)

If you have Evochron Mercenary, the expansion will update that game.
If you don't, it will work as a clean install.

If the expansion will cost extra for those that own EM I don't know.
