Here's a bunch of maps made by myself:

I've been told by a friend that my maps are better than the majority of user created maps he's played, but I won't know for sure unless more people actually play them, so I finally decided to make a thread for them.
They range in difficulty, and they vary in mechanics. I'm looking for feedback on them, and I'd greatly appreciate demo files of first-time playthroughs. There are two maps I don't take feedback very seriously on - World's Easiest Chamber (for obvious reason) and Legends Of The Hidden Chamber. And if anyone has any good names for the numbered chambers, that would be nice too.

It doesn't look like I'd have much oppertunity to use the portal gun in those maps.

Sorry, but your friend must of played some bad maps... I see like 3 portal surfaces in each map, which is a bad thing. the more portal surfaces, the better.

My question is, did either of you actually play them? It's fine if you call them bad after playing them, but at the very least give them a chance, as well as map-specific criticism.
Agreed. This portalable surface discussion is seriously biased. Iīve played many maps with very few portalable surfaces, and they were still amazing. The opposite can be said about some maps that are all white. Nothing is written in stone.
It depends on the map. Just having a bunch of white walls, roofs, and floors doesnīt mean your map is harder, or more challenging, or better. It simply means theres more trial-n-error going on. Depending on how the maker executed that, the map can be either glorious, or frustrating as hell. It depends on the specificity of the builder, and what he or she does with it.
Donīt discard maps due to the amount of portalable surfaces for christ sake. Much less judging only by the image of the map.

I agree with both sides here - my maps do need more portalable surfaces, but only where possible or necessary. Some of them (my map called To And Fro for instance) wouldn't benefit from having more portalable surfaces.

As I've had to state in way too many threads now, there are two types of puzzle maps. One is where you have tons of portalable walls and it's up to the player to discern where to place the portals. The other type is where you don't offer much choice and the player is to figure how in the world to pull off what he needs to do with few options.
Portal 2 has a half and half mixture of both types.
Neither method is a indicator of whether a map is good or bad. You know how many really bad overwhelmingly all portalable wall puzzle chambers I've played? Just as many bad all black wall puzzles.

Have you played any of them yet? I'll be surprised if you consider them "bad". Either way, I'm sure he would like some actual feedback rather than saying they're all bad just because you "see like 3 portal surfaces in each map".
If maps with small amounts of portalable surfaces aren't your thing, then fair enough, but just understand that it doesn't automatically mean they're bad maps, as Kexx and Stagger Lee have also pointed out.

drworm: I never said anything was bad. I merely stated that there didn't seem to be a lot of portalable surfaces. More portalable surfaces is just my preference having not liked the majority of chambers with fewer portalable surfaces that I've played so I'm less likely too choose a map with predominently non portalable surfaces. Having said that, I never said that I wouldn't play your maps.
I hope that answers your question.

I added a new map that seems to be gaining in popularity, to my surprise. Check it out here:

drworm, that chamber is terrific. Loved it. Cool concept, great puzzles to support it.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=86359146It's a pretty good chamber:
Interesting idea, not difficult to understand (As soon as you see whats in front of you, you know what you have to do), In terms of portalable surfaces there are just the right amount, so you don't feel like you're being lead and you do feel like you're given options...
I have played maps which employed the same concept in the past (just as a small part in a bigger puzzle) and it's always felt a bit glitchy, like it's not a legit mechanic, but in fairness to you it worked well in this map and didn't feel like something I shouldn't be able to do, and I believe your design had a lot to do with that.
