This has got to be fixed. Every time I seem to click on a new challenge, or new game, it opens a new audio codec process in the manager. After about 25 got opened, the game started to stutter a bit, so I am sure it is affecting performance, and will probably crash and burn if I don't randomly exit the entire game and restart it.
Come on Robot, this is programming 101 here. Patch please.

To fix the problem go into 'ffdshow audio decoder configuration" in the K-Lite Codec Pack Start Menu folder, and click on DirectShow Control.
Next you'll use a checkbox for "Don't use ffdshow in:" and an edit button.
Check the box and click edit to add "HeroAcademy.exe".
Problem solved. The codec spam disappears.

Thank you. Problem sovled without having to uninstall the codec, which I use a lot. Normally, steam will automatically add the exceptions to the ffdshow exception list, ( I guess ). My list was populated extensevely with steam games as exclusions.
I have to get agitated at times with software devs, especially experienced ones.

Hi I have ffdshow codecs isntalled as part of a different package to the K-Lite one. I just have a folder called ffdshow (the only readme in it refers to Boost) full of .dlls but no DirectShow control. Any ideas how to resolve this way? Or should I just grab the K-Lite codec pack specifically to use the config tool?

Don't know if this will help you, but if you are having problems finding the configuration tool... my shortcut links the following PROCESS, which will be a rundll32..... and you can adjust to your directory.
target C:\Windows\SysWOW64\rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax",configureAudio
start in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ffdshow"
It's an actual process, rundll32, but if you cannot find the shortcut, you might can make your own shortcut, but you have to be precise on the directory patch

Thank you very much, that was exactly what I needed to do with my ffdshow thing. The ffdshow spam has gone. I still get multiple AC3 filter icons popping up on the taskbar though, but nowhere near as many as the ffdshows used to be :D
Update: I spoke too soon. The AC3 filter icons on the taskbar multiply like crazy too. Hadn't noticed it before as all I could see was ffdshow icons lol

If anyone knows a similar fix to prevent AC3 Filter icons breeding on the taskbar, please post.

Sorry I didn't get over here to post that myself. We had it up on the Robot forums, but I've been jumping around a lot. Big thanks to Category9 (+rep) for posting it!

Thats a fine work around and all, but are you guys going to patch it so it doesn't do that or leave it for the players to fix?

Also I couldn't find here or on the Robot forums a way of resolving the AC3 filter taskbar spam. Is there a way?

Didn't realise it was happening for ages!

AC3Filter fix/workaround: open AC3Filter, go to the System tab and disable PCM (in 'Use AC3Filter for').
Edit: this may disable sound in your video player. If so, I suggest downloading MPCHC (or vlc), it has its own filters and will play everything just fine.

Have this issue to. Have CCCP installed but i am using LAV Audio Decoder. Only solution i have found is to disable icon system tray. But this don't prevent the loading of it..
