View Full Version : Heard its a great game..... I can't open mine.

I keep getting this message and cannot open the game.

"This game is currently unavailable ( Applications running )

I re-installed the game and still get this message. I also re-installed, restarted steam, and rebooted my computer. I checked for directX 11 and my computer does have the latest version. Still nothing. I'm in Chicago Illinois and got the preload at mid night yesterday.

HELP!!!!:eek:


PC Specs:
Intel i7 950
RAM: 24.0 GB
Plenty of Hard drive space
GeForce GTX 580
Creative SB X-Fi

Think its the same problem as "HKShip.exe has stopped working"? That's the problem I've been having since last night :(

did you try to verify integrity of game cache?

Yes I did, like, 5 times, and every time It downloads 7mb worth of files ( probably a log of some sort I don't know.).

It says all files are good by the way.

It's downloading the .exe file again: HKShip.exe. Which is another reason why I am suspecting corrupt files on the Steam server themselves. At least that one particular Steam server.

I'm not sure how Steam servers work, like if you download from different ones depending on your global location.

I'm actually downloading the pirated version just to see if maybe that HKShip.exe file will work with my legit copy. Will report back.

Yes, I have read a couple of post that has the same problems and lucky some of them fixed it by installing the directx file, but it did not work for me. :(

You get "This game is currently unavailable ( Applications running ) when either the game .exe or a part of it has not shut down and is still running in the background. Go to Task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and look through running processes. End the suspect one and try again.

I also tried that, nothing. Well because of this delay I had too download "Mafia II DLC: Joe's Adventure" to keep me busy while steam fixes this.... hopefully... Lets see what Joe has to say about this!

Also I tried to install "D3D11Install_2010.exe" but it says I need SP2, but SP2 is only for windows VISTA, I have 7. I found the file in "redist" file int the sleeping dogs file.

I have the same maddening issue. cant play game, either nothing happens or i get that application running error. reinstalled added hires pack closed and restarted EVERYTHING. tried adding that .dll file. tried getting directx and driver updates. all up to par. other games play fine. NOTHING WORKS. steam needs to fix this. they getting some angry customers here.:mad:

Ok, I see that every time I run the game it pops up in my Windows task manager for about 20 seconds, than disappears. Nothing shows up though, no title screen, logos, nothing. Just my windows 7. I have spent more time troubleshooting than I did living my life in the past 2.5 days!

I had this problem on one of my machines but not the other I also got the need to update message when I tried to install the DirectX from the game. I even updated and still same message, what a nightmare... Long story short I fixed it by updating DirectX with the files from SR3 instead. So I suggest installing DirectX11 from another game.

Holy Crap! I got the game to work! There are two DirectX Install files, one for vista (D3D11Install_2000.exe) and one for win7 (DXSETUP.exe). DXSETUP.exe is in the DXredist folder. It worked for me.
