high ping

is it possible to increase my ping...i have used the cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate and I can see changes "ins outs" happening on my netgraph, but my ping only slightly increases sporatically, but normally stays at a constant 5ping. also, i usually get a choke of about 1 or 2 during each map start. is this caused by my server or just me screwing around with my cl_cmdrate cl_updaterate "client side" or perhaps some hardware problems, as i set the settings to maximum and still get a choke. any help is greatly appreciated

Client:
rate
cl_updaterate
cl_cmdrate

Server:
sv_maxrate
sv_maxupdaterate

hmmm, do you have these wrong by mistake, please clairify...

for a server it's sv_maxupdaterate
for a client it's cl_updaterate

well i hope so...

my server settings are

Server:
rate: 20000 <--- this would be sv_maxrate
cl_updaterate: 40 <--- this would be sv_maxupdaterate
cl_cmdrate: <--- only done on client side?

the above switch also applies to client

Client:
sv_maxrate: 20000
sv_maxupdaterate: 40

Oops, my bad. Yup I typed them the wrong way round....I was up late working - nearly 4am, so please forgive me !!
