media not installed

steamapps\media\smp.exe is not installed...anywhere on myPC.

I have had a lot of updating lately but this has not been installed.

hl2 ep1 has just had the finishing update to it this morning.

so I don't understand why I did not get the media file update.

anyone have any ideas on how to get this set up or how to get steam to update my files for this?

Have you tried playing a media file from inside Steam? It probably doesn't get created until you do that.

The Steam Media Player is not a standalone application. It's used to pull components from Windows Media Player, which is already on your system (Installed or not) in order to play the video files in your My Media section of Steam.

I can find no info on how to play a media file in Steam.

Call me slow, but how do you play a media file inside Steam??

Remember, when I go to the media section of steam and try to download a media file all I get is an error message saying that the file has to be associtated with an application. Again, I am assumning that app is smp.exe found in my non-existent
SteamAPPs\Media folder.

It is like a catch 22 unless I am not understanding something here.
