what kind of temps do you have with that? If they are pretty low, then you should try pusing it to 333 FSB(1333 Effective), or even 266(1066 Effective)

Heh, this is a brand new chip, and I'm just trying to find its limits, I didnt think these mid-end C2Ds could be pushed so far though, however this particular CPU appears to be limited by my motherboard (Which admittedly is a stopgap because it had an AGP slot, I plan to upgrade to a nice PCI-E equipped one this month), the moment the FSB hits above 1066Mhz, the thing blue screens on boot, it seems 2800Mhz is the limit for now, still, a 600mhz or nearly a 30% OC isnt a bad start (It is fully orthos stable too, or at least, it was at 2750mhz, I dont see the extra 50mhz doing much to its stability).

I have seen it hit 52Degrees Celcius during Orthos stress testing, during gaming it hasnt really got close, idles at 30c due to a high-ish ambient temp.

What kind of motherboard is it?
does it happen to be an AsRock 4CoreDual-VSTA?
I had one of those for a while, but then I bought a new box, well I tried my old chip in my IP35 Pro motherboard, and got a much higher OC with no troubles at all.

Well it's ok......i Mean you can get much higher oc's and fsb especially since that's the P35 chipset .........
like 450 fsb + on p35
and your ram for being pc-6400 (ddr2-800) is running below average
a 5:6 ratio is something you should get down to 1:1 especially @ 400 MHz and 5-6-6-15
assuming that's a decent IC in the OCZ ram but I don't think it's d9gmh micron (could of got crucial, or g.skill)
I think you should up the fsb which you could do easilty
you should be able to get
3.4 GHz go lower on multi for 450+ fsb
1:1 ratio 4-4-4-12 550-600 MHz on the RAM with relativelty low volts.....if not 1:1 then 2:3
if you could link me to the OCZ you bought i could tell what chips you have
L.o.D.
09-07-2007, 09:00 PM
Is it better to have a lower RAM ratio?
Mine's at 7:8.
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=234428
I'm not at 3.1 right now though. My idle temps are 50cel right now. I'm changing thermal compound tomorrow to AS5.
This (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_system_elite_edition) is my RAM.
yeah 7:8 is bad for 400 MHz.........
and 5-5-5-15?
what IC is the ram
micron d9gmh can do 4-4-4-12 low volts @ 600 MHz easilty with 1:1 provided good chipset
i would of picked p965 over 650i and p35 over all chipsets
650i can't do high quad fsb at all
p35 can do 480+ so u can get low ratios
L.o.D.
09-07-2007, 09:05 PM
What do you mean by IC?
I actually have the RAM voltage at 1.92, which is the lowest setting before auto.
cant find your IC on here.........

IC = Internal Chip
brand don't matter the internal chip does
L.o.D.
09-07-2007, 09:24 PM

What happens if I OC with it linked anyways?

I managed to get to 3ghz on stock voltage so im plently happy with that because my temps have only risen 1-2 celcius :D
Heres the link to my ram
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18495&vpn=OCZ2G8002GK&manufacture=OCZ%20Technology
eh your rams not that good only the platnium OCZ is micrond9gmh
you got a
Aeneon or powerchip IC
still lower multi and test fsb with ram
3 ghz is ow for p35 chipset even if you make your ram not all too fast

Open CPU-Z up and run something to stress the CPU and you'll see the multiplier increase. It is Intel Speedstep which is just like AMD Cool n Quiet.

This is rather embarassing, but what the hell. Only 200 MHz increase, but anyways...
I found a way to OC my OEM PC.
Using ClockGen :D
Anyways, from stock 2600 MHz I went up to 2860...
Imo not bad for box cooler and OEM motherboard and cheap memory :p

In this case, yeah. You're running your DDR2-800 slower than it is sold at stock (a RAM freq of 400 Mhz). Apart from that, really nice overclock you've got going there!

Seems to be folding stable. Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme with Scythe S-Flex 120mm 1600rpm
Around 60 degs on the warmest core. I'll pop up the voltage if it crashes, but it's at a mere 1.424 (after vdroop) now so I'm sure I'll be able to stick with 3.78GHz as a daily overclock. Will go for 430x9 soon.

I could attempt a 4GHz suicide clock, but I'm trying to find max daily overclock, meaning voltage below 1.5, and core temps below 70 while folding.
EDIT: By the way, VDIMM and VTT voltages are off. They're set to 2.23 and 1.6 respectively.

Oh I'm giddy and going for more!
Tonight I pushed my HT to 1000mhz... which never booted before. It did.
Then I got curious and put it back at 800mhz and upped my ref. clock to 214, making my 6000+x2 3200mhz with 400mhz ddr2 at 4-4-4-12.
I might try pushing my HT up back to 1000 with that.
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=290243
Edit: Well that didn't last long, but it may have been a fluke. I black-screened upon opening coretemp, but I've had issues before with temp-monitors doing that. I'm not sure if it was unstable or if cpu-z+core-temp both probing my mobo made it freak out.
I know now 1000mhz ht is still not stable for me, it froze on default fsb. Darn, I'll never get that to work with me.
Oh well, tomorrow I'll retry the OC and do a cpu-burn.
If my mobo allowed it, I'd drop the multi, up the voltage, and do a 3-3.2 oc with a better fsb.
Edit2: Holy crap, look at this other guy's OC on a 6400+... how?! (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=272276) I wonder how hot it was.

I'm confused, someone help me here.
The q6600's fsb is 1066, which means 266.5 reference clock... right?
How in the world can you get to 3.6ghz?
That would mean 400 ref. clock, 1600mhz fsb... so how can you do it if neither a mobo nor cpu support a 1600mhz fsb?
I mean the quad core supports 1066, so how are people going so high above that?

oh, the motherboard and CPU(as well as RAM) are rated to support certain default speeds...like you would need a motherboard that supports 1066FSB in order for a Q6600 CPU to be able to run at all and have its bus/reference clock speed detected off the micro codes on the CPU so that it can have the default speeds set-up for it to even boot at all
..however MOBO/CPU/RAMs are not limited to these speeds...the reference clock can be changed up or down from the default(stock) if the motherboard supports overclocking...many motherboards that do support overclocking allow you to change the reference clock in steps of 1MHz, you simply type in or select the speed from a list to whatever you want it to run at...and this reference clock sets the 'beat' for all the other parts times their multipliers

I noticed you don't seem to have a Dual Core Opteron section, although there are some linked here. It's no record, but I'm happy with it for the relatively low volts and stock cooler. It's Orthos Prime stable, but after 9 Hrs @ 1.42V, it was hitting 60°C in a >20° C room, so it's backed off to 2.9G@1.36V for now. I was more curious as to why the DC Opty's aren't listed.

The only difference is that when in SLI mode, yours runs in 16X 16X mode while mine will only run in 8X 8X mode. Your chipset is better than mine, I don't plan on SLI though, so I don't care, it runs in 16X mode with SLI mode disabled.

lowering the multi to 8 and raising the FSB would produce more heat and give no performance gain in anything other than synthetic benchmarks.

No offense, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with what he posted. It IS overclocked. Look at the front side bus. Multiply that bus by 9, and you get 3600. Just because he has speed step on doesn't mean it's anything less of an overclock.

Stock cooling, original voltages, both cores at 22c idle and 48 under load :)))

Does CPU-Z say the same thing the Nvidia control panel says?

my E8400 OCed to 3.6 with speedstep on. As for the cooling i am using a Tuniq Tower 120.
I was going to post this but just want to make clear...it's speedstep on but really overclocked to 3.00 GHz right?...not 3.60 GHz.

SpeedStep dropped the divider from 9x to 6x, hence only 2.4GHz. He OC'ed from 333-400, hence normal speed 9x333 = 3GHz, and OCed speed 9x400 = 3.6GHz

That pretty much sums it up
On a side note one of the E8400 you have in the list (by muns786) is running at the stock speeds of 3.00 GHz and should be taken out since its not overclocked...

Even though it says CPU overclocked...still non overclocks can be added.

ahh well. I "could" get 4ghz but it takes 1.45v. It's either a sucky chip or the massive vdroop. dunno which is it.

I tweaked the ram timings a little bit and came awfully, awfully close to breaking into single digits in superpi 1m.

I don't know whether I should push higher or not. As it is, I'm pushing it very far already.

My friend called and said he got a E2180, so we decided to start overclocking and see how far we could both get.
My lil E4500(stock 800Mhz FSB) made it all the way to 1800mhz FSB. (I was just going after FSB, not RAM or CPU speeds)
