If you download a video in steam, it will make a .GCF file with it in.

When you double click to play the video, it extracts the video into a "media" folder and plays it from there, when your finished watching it, it wont delete the GCF or the movie file it extracted which means you have the video twice.

This is wasting disk space. It means that after i watch a large trailer i have to browse to the directory to remove it from the media folder as i only want one copy of it.

Is this a bug or what?

No, it's a function of Steam's filesystem. Because Windows Media Player doesn't support the GCF container format, the files must first be extracted. It would save space if Valve took an open-source media player and recoded the file handling to read directly from the GCFs.

They could always use the new loose filesystem they use for 3rd party-game like RO, shadowgrounds and such.

cant they just make the file download directly into a WMV format instead of using GCF for a bloody WMV.
