Wrong. Gothic bundle at 1,99 24 hour promo started TODAY. It was supposed to last until tomorrow.

They are talking about L4D 2 and the Star wars game from yesterday, not Gothic.

I missed out on the cheaper Gothic Bundle because I was waiting for the price of Civilization III to be reduced - it's supposed to be 75% off today, but it only has a 25% reduction.

Steam were quick enough to increase the Gothic price, but they don't seem to be in any rush to correct the Civ3 price...

I don't see how it could've been a typo. The banners aren't auto-generated based on the prices. Someone made a banner that said, "66% off All Atari Games" which included The Witcher. Then someone approved that banner. Then someone set The Witcher to 66% off. It's not just one guy doing all these things.

If this was a mistake it was probably along the lines of Valve thought Atari was cool with a 66% across the board sale, but they weren't. I have a hard time believing Valve doesn't run the sales past the publishers ahead of time in detail, but I'm really just speculating and this is a pretty big sale, so obviously there are going to be mistakes.

Sales end early, prices change and people complain......thus is steam sales.

I bet that either they ran out of keys and had to rebuy more at a higher price or it was ment for a daily sale at 66% and someone screwed up, it happens /shrug.

its not a scam and happens more then you would know, i have a couple games in my library that were bought due to screw ups.

Not exactly. It might say “-75%” on the front page, but this indicates more or less an “up to” and doesn’t necessarily mean that all the games are reduced by this. The Heart of Iron sale yesterday was advertised as “-66%” on the front page, but the DLC was “just” 50% off.
But anyway: $3.74€ is ridiculous low price for Civ3 incl. add-ons. Wanting more off is kinda insane.

Lol, this is true! Strange. The banner says it's 20 games. When the deals firt went on, it said 21 games, I remember it clearly, then I checked and they had changed it to 20 games, but I couldn't find the missing one. Guess it was Dawn of War Gold Edition.

Come on now. It's not like the Withcer thing is the end of the world or anything, but when one sees "66% Off All Atari Games" under a banner that says "Save on these through July 4th," it's fairly reasonable to expect that one will be able to save 66% off all Atari games through July 4th. And since already-discounted games routinely show up as daily deals, it is also reasonable that some customers would wait until July 4th to pull the trigger on one of Atari's games, such as The Witcher.

I'm not saying that the mistake was Valve's, or that anyone owes me anything; people just resent having the terms of the sale changed without notice. This wasn't the same situation as the Gothic thing; it wasn't some anomalous price that showed up shortly after the daily deals switched over. This was a sale price that was around and stable for about three days, and that fit in with a bulk discount on all of the publisher's other games. So it's perfectly understandable that people are upset.

Maybe your region is different, but the Australian and US front page banners both say "Save 75% on all of the Sid Meier Civilization games" and "ALL GAMES 75% OFF". Seems fairly clear to me that ALL Civilization games should be 75% off.

But anyway: $3.74€ is ridiculous low price for Civ3 incl. add-ons. Wanting more off is kinda insane.

I've been wanting to get it on Steam for ages but it wasn't available in Australia. I ended up buying it on GamersGate to avoid the disk based DRM on my retail copies.

They finally made it available in Australia a day or two AFTER it had been on sale for $1.25. I'd still like to own it on steam but I won't pay a cent more than $1.25 on principle.

...

Whether I'll ever actually play this game again is another question. Civ4 didn't really grab me (it's missing the epic feel of the previous civ games) but it's hard to go back to Civ3 and all it's issues after playing Civ4.

Yeah, you’re right. Regarding to the Heart of Iron sale, one can say that they discounted all games correctly since it was only the DLC that wasn’t 66% off. Guess, it’s a new kind of logic... VALVe logic. :D
And since you already own Civ3 retail, I see the point in not wanting to pay more than around $1.49€ for having it on Steam.

guess they remove older games nobody cares about at some time. If they wuld keep every game the store wuld be stuffed after a few years and ppl wuld be complaining about games not functioning anymore on new their new OS. At the codemasters pack there was toca 3 (i like calling it taco :] ) and after their sale it was removed. Got the game but i'm just not interested in playing it ever. The discounts always seem to be the same percentage across all regions. So when they screw you on the regular price, you stay screwed during the sales!

I know that the discounts are always the same but the US have specials that no other region do and I don't think that any other regions have specials that the US don't, so in a way I still think that it would be fair even though people in the US might kick up a fuss about us getting it reduced 50% instead of 25%, lol.

Not that I really care I bought the game when it first came out and steams great whatever specials they're willing to give is always better than store price anyways.:D

Well, they are from 1997-1998, so if you're not that old it isn't really surprising. It's not like those games have the same rep as, say, Half-Life.

sadly, cause they're certainly better.

According to the people on the Oddworld section of this forum, it's better to wait for the OddBox which will be released later this year.

Half-Life and Oddworld are too different to say which is better. Undoubtedly each series is one of the best of its genre.

Both Oddworld games are well worth $2.50€ each, but rumour has it they will be part of the OddBox which will also feature Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath—and you know how the gifting situation at Steam can be. ;)

Todays sales have only XCom pack that i would buy if only price in EU would not be the worst of all (US,UK,EU). I remember having much fun in these games hundreds of years ago.

Just Cause 2 and its DLC are now showing in the catalog for Japan. Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY edition has also reappeared as has Supreme Commander 2. Kane and Lynch Dead Men has its price and purchase button back. The Last Remnant lists as $39.99 in the search results but is still actually priced at $59.99 on the product page. And finally, FINAL FANTASY XI ULTIMATE COLLECTION has also appeared on the store with a purchase button again. The Square Enix/Eidos pack is not available however.

This feels like a mistake to me, but either way, it is actually currently possible to purchase the games in Japan - no errors, indicating regional restrictions are still in place, displayed while purchasing one of the JC2 DLC for example.

Edit: No need to check again. Appears Square had a change of heart and are now releasing in Japan over Steam!

I like Toki Tori, but its pretty much a pure puzzler with no platforming skills required. I didn't care for the Braid puzzles that required the timing to be just perfect, like the one where you needed to get your shadow/clone to flip the switch to raise the platform with you on it. Had to use a youtube walkthrough because I knew what I needed to do, but couldn't get the timing right.

Day of Defeat: Source €2,49 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/300/)

Personal notes:
- Beat Hazard: Highly recommended, especially at this price.
- Saints Row 2: Be carefull, seems that SR2 has a lot of issues on PC (Check the SR2 forums for info)
- Borderlands: When buying as 4-pack you only pay €7,65 p.p.

Crysis Maximum Edition: 17,49€

Generally when Valve do these annoying 24 hour deals along with other long term discounts, it's best to only buy games that are at least 75% off. As the chances of them being further reduced in a daily deal, is slim and the difference if it did happen negligible.

Never buy game at full price. If it is 33% discount, you can expect a few months later become 50%, 66% or even 75%.

If it is 75% discount, just buy it :)
This is how I buy steam games. Play old games and underrated one.
The most expensive game I bought is bc2 which is 33% because I can't hold any longer ;)

today's deals are terrible steam, what the hell are you doing?

Portal for $2 when it was free only recently?
bad company 2 for $33 when you could get it for $20 when PAX2010 was up (on EA Store but still)
Mount and blade on sale and not warband (basically teh same game but with multiplayer)
world of goo when it was basically free several times on other places?
and metro 2033 for $25 when it's worth a lot less (i got it for free at pax and frankly it's not worth much more than that)

That and dmc4 for 75% off isn't that good. It's a good game but not quite there yet. Should be like $5 instead

I don't get wtf you are talking about or complaining about

Just because portal was free means that now that it isn't it should never have a deal on it? wtf?
Just because BC2 had a "better" deal on it (that had nothing to do with steam, mind you) means that now there isn't a deal it should never have a deal on it? Aswell as the fact that buying it from anywhere other then Steam means you have activation limits and somehow all of this means it's a bad deal? wtf?
Just because Mount and Blade has a multiplayer version (but is NOT the same game) means that Mount and Blade can never go on sale by itself? wtf?
Just because WoG had a "pay what you feel it's worth" (that had nothing to do with steam, mind you) means that now there isn't a deal it should never have a deal on it? wtf?
As to the Metro 2033, that's completely 100% your opinion and your opinion is not the opinion of everyone elses in the world, Metro 2033 is a very highly liked game aswell as one of the best looking DX11 games out there, 50% off on it is a good deal.

Because portal was free, the fact that it's on a super cheap deal, especially so soon after the free deal makes it feel more "filler" than anything else. Most people already have it, ergo it's unnecessary
You're still going to have activation limits on BC2 iirc, not that that should really be an issue. As for the BC2 deal itself, for a game that is starting to slow down in people's attention, especially so close to the new MOH coming out, 33% off is incredibly mediocre.
Mount and blade Warband is basically exactly the same game as Mount and blade, except warband has everything the first one has and also has multiplayer. There is no reason to buy teh first one over warband in that regard. None.
Again, World of Goo has been on so many deals, and so many opportunities to get it for very cheap, that $5, even for a daily deal feels very weak and unnecessary. Yet more filler.
And no not really, Metro2033 is a very short game with a multitude of bad design decisions that ultimately hurt it, along with high system requirements for graphics that pale in comparison to other, better looking games that run better than this does (namely Crysis, obviously). It's worth $10, maybe $15, but you're overall better off getting the THQ pack and getting this game for the actual price it's worth to the value it provides.

In terms of multiplayer, BC2 isn't going anywhere. I'm glad didn't shell out $60 for MoH.

That said I'm definitely getting Just Cause 2 from todays deals.:)

So basically "my opinion, my opinion, my opinion, i'm greedy, no facts, since someone may have missed out on a deal they shouldn't get another chance for any deal, etc." did i get that correctly? yes? ok then

As to BFBC2, no, steam has no activation limits, it has no 3rd party DRM other then Steam, thanks for trying though

I guess though to actually "get it through your head" you will just have to keep your eye on the top sellers, as i have said multiple times Just because a game has HAD a sale before hand no matter how long or short ago does not mean it won't sell more now, not EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD bought the game.

Gvaz

It's actually pretty obvious, especially with the deals for most of these games being better before, and the last few days deals being utter garbage of either games that should be on lower deals than they used to be, or full of games everyone has already.

With almost 300 steam games, I already have most of these deals, and so do others.

I never said it wouldn't sell, I said it was a bad deal that should be replaced by say more AAA titles for 50% off or more.

I also never said they shouldn't have another chance for a deal, but most people would have gotten it already so they're just filler that could be with better deals.

As for warband, look it up yourself you idiot. it's the same ♥♥♥♥ing game but with multiplayer ergo making it the more worthwhile purchase.

the whole point, is as a consumer i'd rather have a deal on something i dont have, since the sale is the whole incentive, instead a bunch of games that you and all your friends have.

Yeah, but not everybody who uses Steam has 300+ games, and guess what, maybe most of the latest daily deals aren’t among those games those people have.
Just because you and your friends might have all or most of the latest deals means only one thing: You spend [too much?] money on games. But the deals are good nonetheless whether you can or want to buy them.

What I am curious to see is if the long week discount games get the July 4th one day treatment. I have a hankering to commandeer a pirate ship around East India for maybe 66% off, or prevent Great Britain from being blitzkrieged by the Luftwaffe for maybe 75% off. At the least. Aura891

It is because the Attorney-General of each state needs to agree to it. And all they ever do is discuss it, as opposed to doing something about it.

However, the lack of R18+ rating shouldn't bother Steam. Valve/Steam is not an Australian company/service, and does not have an Australian branch, and therefore does NOT have to comply with this outdated law. And Valve doesn't have to worry about its Australian customers going to jail, because it is LEGAL to buy/play/own banned games (except in Western Australia). The only illegal thing about banned games is selling/distributing them. Which, as I said, shouldn't bother Valve as they exist outside of Australian law.

Since Valve is digital distribution and does not have to deal with shipping, wherever you are buying a game you are buying it from valve in the country you are currently in, so yes, it does bother valve

cool.

steam hasn't any offer in US XD

in EU there's that 10% off for ruse

and in Uk that games.

ruse is 50$, that pretty much equals 40€. that's like 20% off...
for the UK it costs even less.

The US doesn't have the offer on R.U.S.E. as the discounted version is not being sold in the US over Steam. Every other region (that I've seen) does get the discounted version and the non-discounted "deluxe" version.

33% here in the UK. But it was cheaper here than the US and some EU regions so the deal is more in line now. With 50% off in the US the game now works out at only 11 pence cheaper than the UK price.

But whatever, i'm happy with the deal and i knew somehow there would be a world cup final deal this weekend. Glad i waited a few days :)
