So what's the deal with Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven? Did they just forget to make it available after people weren't able to pre-order Mafia II anymore?

Well, it doesn't always have to be a holy f***ing s**t crazy insane sale on the most popular titles. (thank god it's not :p) I'm sure a lot of folks enjoy these game (i would too, but it's not cheap enough for mer personally) :D

Has anyone noticed the sales are lasting longer and longer ? CoH is still on sale for me atm

Actually, that was Puzzle Kingdoms, which is a semi-related spin-off by the same developers, not Puzzle Quest.

What a joke.
An excellent game for a great price (the cheapest it's currently available anywhere)? I don't see what's so funny about that.

Eh, why do I bother. Anytime a sale that deviates from the "extremely popular mass-market game for at least 50% off" formula, someone will complain.

Are we having a weekend deal today or tomorrow? I saw on post 1 that there is a section for this weekend's deal but it has a N/A. Does that mean we won't have one, or it isn't posted yet?

Sorry, relatively new to Steam and my friend and I are throwing a mini Sept 11th Lan. Would be awesome to get some new content at a great price for it.

I see that you're new, so, let me explain that quite frankly, no one on these forums can tell you when or what Steam sales will be, in advance (except for very, very rare occasions when they are mentioned in advance, say, by the developers, or something). We're usually completely in the dark about them, until they actually go live.

So, just for future reference, there really isn't much use in asking. :)

Well this King's bounty promotion is the most disappointing thing ever; i was ready to buy Crossworlds with free Legend but then i realized you must own Armored Princess (which still costs 25! WTF) in order to buy Crossworlds.

{Yotsuba}
09-11-2010, 06:19 AM
There are several versions of Crossworlds and it seems Valve/1C have opted to only sell the version that requires you own Armored Princess first. Shame they didn't also opt to sell the standalone version, but then, if you only got the standalone version you probably won't be able to use the editor. Still, if you do have AP already, $9.99 is a very good price. In fact too good, seeing as the non-standalone version of Crossworlds is supposed to be $19.99...

So you might want to take advantage of this price soon in case Valve have made a mistake and later correct it to $19.99.

I don't know what it is like in the rest of the world, but in Australia, it would be illegal to suddenly make you pay the extra amount. You offered them 9,99€ (by giving them your details and purchasing the item), and they accepted (by allowing you to purchase for that amount, and by giving you a licence to the game). They couldn't decide later to change that, and say "you now owe us the difference".

You don't need to worry though. I bought "3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures" for about US$0.13 when it was released, and I wasn't charged the difference. They made it US$0.13 for Australia, in a hilarious stuff up of regional discrimination. They quickly changed it to their intended US$13.33 about a day later. (Its US$9.99 in the US)
Thanks for your answer. I hope they won't charge me additionally for this game. +rep

If you buy something at Steam [or any other download shop for that matter], the transaction is completed pretty immediately—incl. debiting the money from your credit card/bank account. It would require another okay from you for them to charge you more since it would be a second paying process.
It’s not like with Amazon etc. where the price could change until shipping—and even then you’d be notified and could cancel the order w/o much ado.

Is this going to be a Lucas Arts week or just Star Wars?

I'm really not into Star Wars enough to get into the games. I would have gotten Force Unleashed but I read about all the problems and it's 30GB install which is a bit much for my laptop right now.

I may get KotOR seeing as how I loved Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

Yes, similar but fights are turn based. Also KOTOR's story is better than Mass Effect for me. And KOTOR has more role playing elements (Light and Dark Side choices make the game 50 hours of game time), go and buy the game. You won't regret. :)

I would assume the only people needed to say ok to a sale on the game would be the publishers... which would be LucasArts and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, unless the agreement made between the lego group and it's publishers were more of a "Distribution" agreement rather then a publishing agreement

It's never that easy when licenses owned by several parties are involved. The Matrix Online was a brilliant example of that. Whenever the dev (not a typo) wanted to add new content, he needed permission from not only SOE, but also Warner Bros. and even, allegedly, the Wachowski brothers. And that permission was needed for even simply things such as texture change.

Obviously, The Matrix Online is an extreme example, but it does highlight the point that it's entirely possible that when there are several licenses involved (in the case of the Lego games, that's a license for the Lego brand and for whatever brand the game is based on), each of the different license holders have made their own stipulations as to how the end product is treated.

So couple that with the fact that none of the Lego games have *ever* had a temporary price reduction since their release on Steam while other games by the named publishers have (for at least some of the Lego games) , it's a very good indication that someone is preventing such sales. As to which party, I'll let you make up your own mind.

Finally, I don't think I've seen any of the Lego games offered at a discount price on any other digital distributor either. And I certainly have no records of such a sale from any site since the point I started tracking them.

Not to be argumentative but I think you may be wrong on this one and are reading too much into it.

LucasArts are the publisher of the game and owner of Star Wars IP.

I see no reason why they would need to contact Lego to authorise a price drop on a game, I doubt they would be stupid enough to tie themselves into a contract which stipulated this.

Lego are the owners of the Lego IP. Since Lego games use Lego all over them on their looks, then yes, they need to contact them to authorize anything like that, specially considering lower price = less earnings per game sold.

Also, Tomb Raider: Legend is €2,- in stores here ;-)

PS. For people who don't have an Xbox360 to try out the Lara Croft Demo: I just played that demo with a friend, it's a lot of fun in co-op(Especially bombing eachother)
Not sure how long it takes to complete the full game, but I do think the game is better when you play it with friends

Can I still get the Lara Croft deal even though the Pre-Purchase has already ended in my country? It says "until 28th of September when pre-purchasing".

When I pre purchase Lara croft and the guardian of light do I get a copy of legend for myself or do I have to gift it?
Just wondering because the darksider pre purchase offer said that you get a copy of Titans quest (I think) for yourself or to gift while the offer for tomb braider only says giftable copy.

Would be a bit weird if you couldn't give that game to yourself.

I think you can assume that you can either keep it or gift the game.

PS. it says "giftable", not a master in English language here but I think it means that you have the option to gift it but not necessarily need to do that

What a deal? The new Tomb Raider is 14.99 and with it you get a free game, Tomb Raider: Legends, valued at 19.99. That's unusual.

Despite the fact that Square-Enix games are supposed to be available in Japan, Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light is regionally restricted. Nice one!

How is it a fact? Maybe it isn't ready for the Japanese market with language yet, or maybe they haven't prepared marketing for it. Just because it's digital doesn't mean they will always have a worldwide simultaneous release.

{Yotsuba}
09-22-2010, 11:30 AM
The deal was for selling the English language versions. So there is no waiting for a Japanese translation. The fact that's been removed from the coming soon list and regionally restricted is an indication of it not being delayed in terms of release date either. As for marketing, there is none for Steam in Japan. So again, that's not an issue.

Wow, wasn't Numen $29.99 before? A price drop to $9.99 in less than 4 months after release... I feel sorry for the developers. On the other hand, I really did enjoy it when i got it for $7.50, but I didn't think it was really worth $30. Definitely a good value for $10 though, so I hope people buy it.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is now available in Japan.

After talking with Valve, it was apparently due to Square-Enix thinking that no one would want to buy it.

They have apparently been persuaded that they were wrong and have now released it.

On another note, Square are also charging $59.99 for Front Mission on Japan ($10 more expensive than in North America, but that's still $17 cheaper than the console versions).

It's basically Sudoku, right?

It's basically Sudoku, right?

You have math equations to solve, at least the first puzzles are 4 X 4, not 3 X 3, and you have to put numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 into spots so there is only one of each numbers horizontally and vertically. The 4 X 4 puzzle is broken into colored pieces that form an equation. There might be a 5+ for two squares which will require a 4 and a 1 or a 3 and a 2. The goal is to solve the puzzle in the least number of tries.

I think there are more puzzles but I just played the game for about 20 minutes, a bit over 10 puzzles. I think its worth $2.50.

I decided to buy it, i'm in a puzzling mood. So far it's good. I think it's bit less frantic than Droplitz, definitely much more casual.

Worth $2.50 in my eyes.
