Usually if something works with Vista, it should work with Windows 7 but if the requirements say Windows XP/Vista only, you maybe out of luck. Better to ask in the game forum.

Age of Empires 3 Collection is now 10 cents on GFWL.

You can just use 10MSP to buy it, or just 10cents. Cheapest deal I've seen ever on any game since Half Life 1 was 99cents.

I'm not a fan of Microsoft but I jumped on that when I saw it on Slickdeals.

Not sure why but as I was installing the game I had an odd feeling that every thing I ever did on my computer was sent to a massive database somewhere.

Got it on disc but would have plumped for an online version at that price, shame they didn't do that deal on the UK site...

But then the whole Nov 15 extravaganza was an anti-climax. I was expecting a big sale to kick it off and... nothing, nout, nada, niet, zippo... business as usual.

Sticking to Steam for now. Got my wishlist fattening up like a turkey for Xmas.

I've looked at the GFWL site and I can't for the life of me find out how to use it as an EU user ...

So either I change localization to UK, in which I get english, a properly accepted common language, but then I get prizes in pounds...

or I chose germany, and I get euro's but it's in german, or I chose france, and then I get euro's but it's in french... what the hell? No english site with euro's?

Edit: Nevermind, apparently the AOE3 thing requires an xbox gold account ... lol. Great 'PC' deal...

Shouldn't do. I got it with my Free Silver account. As have many others. No idea why some are getting the Gold Account message.

Might be a regional issue.

This was the first game I bought from GFWL and I see it as extremely inferior to Steam as a digital distributor.

Buying was simple. I just chose MSP as an option and on the next click it took 10MSP and downloaded. After the download ended it showed the huge flaw that will keep GFWL inferior to Steam in my eyes.

I had to not only click install to manually install the download, but I also had them give me a pop-up message for inserting the product key at the 19% mark of the install.

So it's basically like downloading and installing random files off the 'net. Steam gives you everything on the initial download while MS has me doing extra tasks before I can even play. No way could I imagine doing this with a larger game like Gears of War each time.

Steam lets me download and I can walk away or go sleep and have it fully downloaded and installed when I come back. With GFWL I'd have to go through this manual hassle each time so I'm sort of forced to leave the game on my drive. I'm pretty sure they don't even realize how primitive this feels to a Steam customer whith over 40 Steam games.

At least I know not to buy anything from them unless it's an MS exclusive. I kinda wanted Blaze Blue and was looking forward to Fable 3. Screw that now. Unless they go for 10cents also I'm sticking with Steam.

Anyone get Flight Control HD? Seems good. I may have to get it.

I bought it after I saw it has more maps then the iPod touch/iPhone version. It makes so much fun to beat your high score or the high score from others. The music theme is so relaxing. You have to get it! Awesome peacefully game.

Hi, I live in Germany, but it shows my location as United Kingdom in GfWL, no matter what I do. I searched the internet and tried all sorts of things, from editing my windows live account info on msn.com (which DOES show Germany), to changing my system settings to german. But I cant pay in pounds, any ideas? Would be grateful, Ive looked for a good deal for the AoE3 games for a long time. Please help. I know its the wrong thread, so any help via PM or MSN would be welcomed too.

And this, plus the things OmegaRed60 said, is the reason why the GfW Marketplace will never be as good as Steam.

On another note, I (re-)downloaded Tinker [which is a nice free game @GfWL] yesterday just to have a pop-up at game start tell me that there’s an update. I mean, it can’t be that hard to incorporate a patch, that’s basically as large as the initial download, into the game files, can it?
Steam is superior in so many ways, it’s almost ridiculous.

Yeh, from what I used of it so far, GFWL is definitely behind in a lot of ways.

Things I hate so far include the childish colour scheme of xBox Live site, the fact you can't manage your profile from within the Marketplace client, the weird cartoon avatars you are forced to adopt if you don't want the default pic, my gamertag isn't available etc...

Things I do like is that it allows you to change the default directories for all installs. But that I see as a fix for the fact that it sticks things by default all over the place and doesn't give you a choice of where the client goes anyway.

Steam may have it's faults, but it is far more logical and compact, not to mention the carbon-fibre effect default skin is awesome.

Steam doesn't even add patches to the initial download though.

In most cases, you have to restart steam after downloading the game just to get the patch to appear.

I never had that occurrence. Every time I re-downloaded/-installed a game, it was the latest version available through Steam. [Exceptions being GfWL games and Splinter Cell: DA which updated either in-game or through a stand-alone updater.]

I'm pretty sure that is false.

Patches become part of the games once released. If you don't believe it download some heavily patched games like Team Fortress 2, if it had to apply all the patches later and replace the original files it would take forever to install.

THIS SEPERATION OF COUNTRYS WITH THE "ONLY AVAILABLE IN..." OPTIONS IS MOST UPSETTING - I WAS TAUGHT AT SCHOOL TO BE THE CARING SHARING TYPE - THEN WHEN I LEFT SCHOOL I DISCOVERED THAT THE WORLD IS SECTIONED OFF BY COMPANYS WHO HATE YOU TO SHARE OR CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER - THEY WANT A FEE OFF EACH PERSON AND WORSE THAN THAT - EVERY YEAR TOO... ITS NOT JUST IMMORAL ITS OBSCENE.

No problem, no, no phishing going on :P

Also, make sure you note the wording, it says the top 5 games, so it may be prudent to order the wishlist so the top 5 games on the list are the ones you most want, I'm guessing this is a way to test/promote the reordering feature.

Yeah um.. I mean the page advertising the 'some people will get their top 5! make your wishlist now! this is your top 10!'

That top 10 seems to stay what it was rather than update. In my wishlist the ranking is what i set it to though.

I feel like a leech for adding games to my wishlist that otherwise wouldn't have been on it because I felt I wouldn't have the money for them to justify it but should I be so lucky I certainly would love to own them >.> Does that make me a bad person?

Nothing specifically states their exclusion (they do still reserve the right to make changes which may let them back out of it during the contest).

My guess, is that if it can be added to the list and is purchasable at the time of the drawing, it's fair game.

If this holds true I'll be getting every other Indie pack xD

"Howdy, folks. Allow me to spoil some of the surprises coming up in the rest of this week's sales.

There will be more large packs (like today's HL2 10-pack/Borderlands 6-pack/RUSE 6-pack/Deus Ex 8-pack) every day until the 29th. I'm not sure the exact days that each will happen, or what the prices will be, but here's what the games will be, and the quantities of the packs, so y'all can start to do some basic planning on group-buys:

- Aliens vs Predator (2010) 6-pack
- Audiosurf 12-pack
- Braid 10-pack
- Counter-Strike: Source 6-pack
- Defense Grid: The Awakening 10-pack
- Empire: Total War 6-pack
- Freedom Force 10-pack
- Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City 6-pack
- Just Cause 2 8-pack
- Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West 10-pack
- Left 4 Dead 2 6-pack
- Mount & Blade: Warband 6-pack
- Nyxquest: Kindred Spirits 10-pack
- Osmos 12-pack
- Portal 6-pack
- Puzzle Quest 2 10-pack
- Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale 8 pack
- Red Faction: Guerrilla 8-pack
- Splinter Cell: Conviction 6-pack
- Trine 8-pack
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising 8-pack
- World of Goo 12-pack

Also, there will be more packs of indie games similar to today's Indie Energy Pack. 5 game per pack, on massive discount, one day only. Again, I don't know the daily order these will come in, or exactly what the discount will be, but, here's what the names and contents of the packs will be:

- Indie Air Pack: Altitude, DogFighter, Flotilla, Gratuitous Space Battles, Plain Sight
- Indie Clever Pack: Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, Eufloria, Iron Grip: Warlord, VVVVVV, World of Goo
- Indie Pulse Pack: Audiosurf, Beat Hazard, Bit Trip Beat, The Polynomial, Rhythm Zone
- Indie Puzzle Pack: Cogs, Droplitz, Puzzle Dimension, Shatter, Tidalis
- Indie Story Pack: And Yet It Moves, Gish, Puzzle Agent, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, Jolly Rover

And of course, there will be more individual games on Daily Deals every day, but I don't have any info on what those will be. You'll just have to wait and see! Also, disclaimer: if any of this info is inaccurate, then oh well."

That's a good question. while the question is better posed on EvE's forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=344) (we are off-topic here), I'll give my 2 cents.

Keep in mind, it's been a long time since I've played, but generally the safest way at first is mining, then later once you have the right ship, missions/salvaging, that is where you start making some money, if you dedicate yourself enough, you could pay for your sub with low-sec missions/salvaging.

The game is just so dynamic I really could not say if any particular person is going to have good or bad luck wrt making ISK, it's really dependent on many variables, like what corp, and what path you choose, race, etc, along with some luck.

If this holds true I'll be getting every other Indie pack xD

Hmm, I may get the clever and puzzle packs, though most of those games aren't quite my cup of tea.

♥♥♥♥ Steam please stop!!! I'm gonna go freaking bankrupt this month!

In November I bought so far:

Theatre of War complete
Day Of Defeat Source
Call of Duty Black Ops
Zen Bound 2
Zombie Driver
Batman Arkham Asylum
Defense Grid
AudioSurf

And there are still like 4 more days of sales :(

Does anyone know where the Caribbean fall in region restrictions? Sometimes I see the Caribbean being considered part South America, other times it's a separate region.

I'm guessing it's just part of 'The rest of the world' because I seem to have the majority of games available to me, but certain games like Alpha Protocol, Wanted, Lost Planet 2, and Dead Rising 2 aren't available in the store.

Today Batman Arkham Asylum, Kane & Lynch 2, L4D2 are on sale. Yesterday it was: Borderlands, Half Life 2, Counter Strike, Deus Ex, RUSE...

Honestly I don't know what kind of games you've "even heard of".

If you enter to the store pages of those games you will notice that some of them do have demos, others have videos and you can always ask in the forums or just google to see how good they are.

Plus they are dirt cheap and that's a good thing already, it's not like you're actually entitled to receive sales on games that you want.

Would ypu troll somewhere else or just shut the ♥♥♥♥ up, please? Seriously. Today’s deals are great. No matter how often one particular game might have been on sale or not.
There are three pretty new games—AAA or indie—and at least six casual and indie games that are good to brilliant for prices that are more than fair.

That you haven’t heard of them is solely your fault [but how couldn’t you, I ask]. If you aren’t interested, that’s fine. You don’t have to be. But it doesn’t change that the deals are good.

Man, could people stop whining about bad, sucking, or whatever deals. Be glad there are any at all. I am.

No, but being on the Steam forums [especially for a year now] and not bothering looking for info about games available in a Steam sale pretty much is.

Sure, games aren’t [or at least shouldn’t be] #1 priority, but you have to be blind to not get any wind of new games on Steam while browsing these forums.

But if you really haven’t, a sale is [i]the opportunity to get some info, load a demo, and make a picture for yourself about a certain game.

There isn't any way to know which games go on sale, is there? I would think not, but that is too bad. As much as I want to shop on Steam the games on my wishlist are going to be on sale on Black Friday. If I knew they'd be available here later I wouldn't head to the mall in a few minutes. But absent that, the deals at other retailers are going to be hard to pass up. New Vegas alone for $29.99 versus $49.99 here catches my eye, for example.

You can't add packs to wishlist. GOTY counts as a "pack".

That's because it has no DLC.
If a GOTY edition means game + DLC it counts as a pack.

I see they are named Add-on Packs on there but weren't they DLC's for fallout as well? the GOTY includes all 5.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition includes all five of the Fallout 3 Game Add-on Packs:

* Operation: Anchorage - Enter a military simulation and fight in the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
* The Pitt - Travel to the post-apocalyptic remains of Pittsburgh and become embroiled in a conflict between slaves and their Raider masters.
* Broken Steel - Increase your level cap to 30, and finish the fight against the Enclave remnants alongside Liberty Prime.
* Point Lookout - Embark on a mysterious and open-ended adventure in a huge, murky swampland along the coast of Maryland.
* Mothership Zeta - Defy hostile alien abductors and fight your way off of the alien mothership, orbiting miles above the Capital Wasteland.

Games can go GOTY in different ways:

1. Base game + DLC/add-ons;
2. Base game with enhanced features;
3. Base game with retroactively added content (that counts as part of the game).

For example Unreal Tournament 3 Black Edition (read: GOTY) contains the base game and the Titan Pack, retroactively installed.

They can also get bundled with other games from the series that are not necessarily DLC or expansions (ie: Empire Total War and Napoleon Total War: GOTY Edition, or ARMA2 and Operation Arrowhead: Combined Operations)

You cannot buy Fallout's add-on packs on their own, so they are merged in a game, while Bordeland's add-on/dlc can be bought separately.

Pure logic.

While that was true for several months following the release of the GOTY edition of Fallout 3, the individual DLC are now available for purchase separately:

Day 2 sale - Only got Audiosurf, been waiting all year to get that one, only bit trip beat now remains (the most recent music related game)

Also got FF XI for just £5, this is separate from the main sales going on but I highly recommend getting it if your a FF fan of the series, base game plus 4 expansions plus 3 add on scenarios, I don't think the 30 days free time kicks in until you set up an account, make character etc so it can just wait in the account, at least it will finally be IN the account, mine was waiting all year in the background.

Day 3 - Black Friday Sales - high expectations on this one...
