I know a lot of people on the forums (probably mostly guys) don't (openly) like the Sims but for what it does, it's a really good game.
The house building and it's freedom is somewhat akin to the minecraft thing lately. There's no point to it, but it's just fun.

And the micromanaging of sims can be fun in it's own ways as well as is all the things you can do in the game.

It's not a title for everyone, but I can see why it sells well. Although I also won't be purchasing 3 on Steam till its much cheaper.

Different between US and Australia
- The Sims 3 - $23.99 in US, $47.99 in Australia [100% more expensive (2x)]
- The Sims 3 World Adventures - $14.99 in US, $19.99 in Australia [33% more expensive (1.33x)]
- The Sims 3 Late Night - $19.99 in US, $14.99 in Australia [25% cheaper]

Yup with our Dollar actually worth more than the USD atm you would think it would actually be more expensive for American's....

Just another US company ripping us off!

C&C 3 (not RA3) is definately the best from the later titles.

:| I personally like RA3 the best from the newer titles (from cnc3 and up). Especially if you want to play online. Whenever I played cnc3 it was just massing the same units and sending them to the enemy, while RA3 felt like it required more strategy, micro-managing and using different units.

JanKowalski
05-05-2011, 07:56 AM
Sorry, but to me C&C has always been a story driven RTS. And cutscenes in RA3 look as if they were designed with horny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in mind. The gameplay changes they made are also terrible and untrue to the C&C spirit.

I think if you want great multiplayer, you should go for Starcraft, DoW or CoH. C&C was never the best at it.

OK so NFS: Hot Pursuit toppled Portal 2 and stole the #1 seller place!

That cover's day 2, onto day's 3 and 4:

EA Sale Day 3

Sims 3 series + Simcity 4 Deluxe, this one surprised many of you due to the Maxis connection but I KNEW it would go on sale.

Sims 3 did rather well hitting the #2 seller place, strange that none of the EP's or SP's were not higher on the list, they really should have done at least 50% off Sims 3 if not 75% given it released June 09

EA Sale Day 4

Command and Conquer, Dead Space or Mass Effect, I would prefer MoH as that's on my wishlist...

Seeing ME2 on sale -50% (£9.99) disheartens me. Purely because i was hoping for BF:BC2 -75% later on in the sale, looks like that ain't gonna happen judging by the discounts so far. I'll wait til a later sale if it's -50%, i have other games to get on with in the meantime.

Ruined it by disbanding Westwood.

halbarad_loire
05-07-2011, 05:21 AM
Debatable. Westwood were already going in the same way as EA went with the Scrin and whatnot (something some fans argue was a big mistake for the Tiberian series) and two years after they were bought out by EA they released by far the best command and conquer game and probably the best RTS game there is, Red Alert 2.

I honestly think C&C3 is a good game as well and the best of the Tiberian series because it was well structured, had great gameplay and benefited from EA's budget for the actors and polish in the Live Action scenes.

I admit that 4 is a letdown and RA3 was iffy at best and focused too much on T&A and is by far the worst of the Red Alert games.

Still, Command and Conquer (specifically the Red Alert series) will be remembered for what is the best opening in gaming history

For a shooter Hammer Legion Member - maybe. But generally - definately not. Renegade was just another shooter, while C&C, RA and to lesser extent RA2 were gound-breaking games and easily in top100 best games of all time.

Well For along time RTS's were composed of 3 major titles, Command and Conquer, Warcraft, and Starcraft, after westwood they really fell from that, warcraft is still popular but w/o a sequel it really cant contend with the newer Starcraft 2 crowd.

Bad Company 2 is more accessible and better looking than Battlefield 2, but it's also more arcadey and it has smaller maps and less vehicles.

If you enjoy simulators and realistic shooters go for Battlefield 2, otherwise you might really enjoy Bad Company 2. Both games are great though so if you can afford them, get both.

Not for all EU countries. For Germany it's £4 + £1 per game.

Duke Nuke Forever (http://store.steampowered.com/app/57900/) is 10% off! :D

You can get it cheaper at D2D 25% off with code sizzle. I wonder why valve is not offering better discounts on preorders since most games are cheaper on D2D since they have the referal codes (15% if you someone elses, and you a 20% when someone uses yours) and other offers.

Well I know i'm buying all my steamworks games over there until steam starts giving me better preorder prices :P

Does the deals at D2D and stuff works for us EU-customers, or is it NA only?

And I guess Valve keeps the prices at Steam high at preorders because many can't be arsed. If they spend 40 or 45€ and unable to play the game, it's not THAT big of a deal.
Depends on your principles :) .

Wrong, DNF isn't valid for that promotion, and when I put it on cart, it returns "Error: Duke Nukem Forever is Country restricted on your IP.".

Double fail to Direct2Drive. Steam FTW!

Because VALVe don’t have to try everything and anything to get a slice of the digital download market which they already dominate. And they dominate it for a good reason.
I buy games elsewhere, too, but the overall experience at Steam is still the best.

Precisely. The code "SIZZLE" works only for a few select games, and DNF is not included. Also, it's restricted for purchase, while on Steam it's not (at least not on most countries).

Could you enlight me a little on this game? I tried the demo, and the game launched without warning without me having any idea of what the heck was I supposed to do. No tutorial or anything save for some non-helpful hints.

Also, for those few who still don't have them, please purchase the Commandos games. They'll change your life. Also, you can play those in almost any PC in existence. Gezz, you can probably play them in a calculator. Although most likely you'll need the patches for new systems, which you can find in the forums.

It's for hardcore RTS fans, if you are not hardcore, you will have a bad time until you learn, it's very complex for a beginner to get into, if you played Europa Universalis you will have an idea.

I haven't played it yet, but I played Europa Univesalis 2 a lot and, from what I know, they are similar. If you find it overwhelming, I think you can control the speed of time passing (you could in EU2) or even totally pause it and think on your next move. I wouldn't call it hardcore RTS, because in a typical RTS you build a base (buildings) and units, I believe this type of games is called grand strategy games. But they are definately a bit hardcore.

Has nothing to do with anything, at all, whatsoever, the games are selling, that is the entire point of a sale, the fact that it is selling, makes everything you have said pointless

Where are you getting the revenue numbers? Also, you have to remember that Duke Nukem is not released, and these games are.:p

Steam top sellers is a hourly updated list, and is generated by revenue, not items sold, so currently, it is making more money then everything else on steam by revenue aside from Portal 2 and Brink, we won't actually know how well it does against everything else for the entire week until monday, when this list will be updated:

that still does not change what i said, it should not be used for accurately telling how much money it brought in, unless top sellers has a little number next to it saying how many they sold, i dont think you can accurately say how much they made.

Steam doesn't give out exact figures but everybody with a brain will understand that if it is in the top 10 it sold pretty well. Everybody knows that Portal 2 sold well and if a game that is rank above or below Portal 2 it should give you a clue.

In other worlds if a game that is on sale and come in the top ten or beat AAA titles it made a lot of money regardless of the price point.

A sale on Alpha Prime or Chaser would be nice

I have both and have completed those games.

Alpha Prime isn't a good game. Chaser is a nice short game with good mechanics. Chaser is a good buy under $5 but not above. I wouldn't recommend Alpha Prime but if want it don't paid above $5.

....Your post does not make any sense, we are saying that CURRENTLY it is selling more, by revenue, then most everything on steam, this is a fact, yet you argue that it's not accurate, how is a fact not accurate?

Illogical...

I personally found a Alpha Prime to be a good (though not great) game, and Chaser only average. And that train level.... most of it was spent twiddling thumbs while the train moved from station to station!

Alpha Prime had a great potential but they rushed with releasing the game, and has become one of the avarage games. But despite all the bugs, and poorly finished parts of the game i enjoyed playing it :)

What i want on sale is Worms Reloaded and Witcher, cuz i missed every opportunity to buy them when they were on sale :(

Too many regions, too many price differences between countries, too many currencies, not enough consistency. I just want a simple list of games that have been included in Daily Deals, statistical patterns which emerge from that and when the game was last featured in a Daily Deal. Steam Deals and Price Reductions! is a great thread for price discussions and all sorts of sales, with numerous sites included that follow those deals and discounts.

The prices aren't all that important as they vary unfortunately by country and region.

Just having a list so we can see what keeps getting thrown up for sale will be nice and interesting enough. We will know how often a game repeats which is fine as long as it's not constantly on sale. Some may not have money the first time around. Hopefully it won't be the same games over and over and we will get some greater variety than we have been as in games that haven't been on sale yet. The list will hopefully help keep Steam and the publishers honest.;) Now whether they care or not is a different question.

Super you might put percent off instead of price if thats the same Steam wide. Thats better than price.

Aura891

Where are you getting the revenue numbers? Also, you have to remember that Duke Nukem is not released, and these games are.:p

I'd just like to update on this btw to completely get it settled:

http://store.steampowered.com/feeds/weeklytopsellers.xml

The game made more money then every game on steam for the entire week aside from 5 games....so was it a worthless sale that no one would buy and weren't buying as seen by the supposed steam stats? nope, it made quite a bit of money

You should put the price and the discount. That way if a $40 dollar game gets a 75% discount, then drops to $20 and gets a 50% you can't really say the 2nd discount was a rip-off.

That's usually true for AAA games but not for small publishers and indies, that actually makes it the exception, not the rule. The prices also change over time. In the end you will have a lots of percentiles with no real meaning. Anyway, it's your list.

Well thanks for doing this, I was considering doing it as well. Suggestion: put the newest deals at the top of the list, oldest at the bottom. Also, consider linking game titles to their price history on SteamGameSales. Example: Majesty 2 (http://www.steamgamesales.com/view-history.php?id=193). It's nice because it shows previous sale prices as well as historical price drops.

Just a suggestion for readability.

My wallet will only disapproves once they have something I feel like buying :)

Same here, so far nothing caught my eye yet but doing the math:

365 days a year = 365 deals
52 weeks a year = 2x deals a week (MWM and Weekend deal) = 104 deals

That's 469 deals not counting summer sales, holiday sales, etc.

There's bound to be a few deals that will catch my eye.
