I'm not sure if it dropped in the US, but I think so.

It's now showing as $19.99 package price, for:
- World In Conflict
- World In Conflict: Soviet Assault

:) Came across this error as I was skimming through, the region restriction section.

It sucks that people from different places have to put up with all kinds of restrictions whether it be access to the game or the price they pay, I guess Valve had to give the publishers their freedom if they wanted a large selection of publishers to get on board.

It's quite a shame it's a mini golf game and not something I'd be kind of interested in, maybe that TimeShift game. Although, any game that's going to cost me 15 cents is fine, really.

Ya, Capcom is pretty asinine. A Japanese company that doesn't sell through digital downloads in asia. From what I've heard, pc games are pretty pricy over there and are more difficult to find.

I can't speak for most of Asia, but as far as Japan goes... Unless you live in Tokyo or Osaka, or are prepared to use Amazon *and* pay a hefty price tag usually anywhere from $50 to $100 USD (SFIV has an RRP of $72), your chances of finding PC games are near zero.

I managed to find one copy of The Last Remnant for the PC, they wanted $80 for it. It's $60 on Steam for us and $40 on Steam for NA. Not surprisingly, I haven't bought it. No way am I paying such prices when other regions are getting the exact same game for less.

They are, last time I went to Japan (in 2006/07) I found one shop that sold PC games and that was in Yokohama. I don't remember the price of the games, but I was looking for the Orange Box. Instead I ended up buying it in Guam.

Wow, this doesn't even make any sense to me.
Why would two Japanese companies (Square and Capcom) sell their PC games overcharged in Japan or sometimes not even sell them there at all? Boggles the mind, really.
I realize PC gaming isn't all that popular in Japan (correct me if I'm wrong here), but are they actively trying to destroy it there or something?

You'd have been ripped off. The Orange Box even at initial release, has always been cheaper sold over Steam then in retail here. In fact, retail, it still has an RRP of around $52.

Well the over pricing is because they managed to con console gamers into forking out $70 to $80 for a new release and though charging $80 minimum for PCs was a good idea -- being a smaller market I guess. Doesn't work that way though even if they are too stupid to see that.

But yes, Capcom Japan has made it very clear in the past that they hate PC gaming/digital distribution. And as such, I have bought very few of their games, the last being Lost Planet by way of a UK based relative gifting it to me to avoid their pathetic overcharging.

Don't forget SEGA. Strange and stupid, but true.

Yet I can hop over to GamersGate and buy SEGA games no trouble. Down right stupid of them to cut off a source of revenue like that.

It was either $49.95 or $59.95 retail at the Gamestop at Guam. That was around Christmas on the same year it was released.

I just didn't want to download 3 games over and over, or make a backup.

The game is not restricted in your country but has regional pricing which is quite common. The difference being that you can buy the game but at a different price to North America.

It's not exactly that simple. Not only can certain games not be bought anywhere else, a lot of us bought into Valve's initial promises.
I love that Steam keeps all my games easily accessible in one central location, but had I known a few years ago that Valve would almost entirely abandon the idea of fair international prices while simultaneously not even remotely keeping their initial promise of bringing down prices to lower than retail level by passing on the savings through direct distribution to the customer, it would have probably discouraged me from creating a games collection on Steam in the first place. I do believe that people have every right to be upset and voice their opinion about this development.

Yes, but all that aside it really does boil down to a simple formula... "is this game worth XX dollars on Steam, yes or no?" Being on the forums complaining about it months later and such is just driving other people insane.

Actually.....it is that simple, everyone knows of the problem already, there's a huge thread about it, if you don't like the price, do not buy it, if you want it on steam, pay the price

I understand the frustration, but it's done and over with, keep it in the specific forum it was meant for, do not ever bring it out of that forum, it belongs ONLY in that forum.

Do, or don't.

It seems the Kalypso has acquired the rights to Commandos from Eidos. That would explain the other Commandos games being removed from Eidos's publisher page.

At any rate, good news, if you ask me. I like Commandos 2 and 3 much better than the first, and I had no interest in Strike Force (played the demo and hated it). A fine trade, I think.

$10 for 2 and 3 is awesome!

Not suprised seeing as all the others were sold at $9.99 to start with. Charging double the price was never going to work out. I might actually buy it now though.

I also won't be suprised if TOCA 3 vanishes from Steam without notice in the near future as the licenses for the vehicles used within are expiring. I really wish Valve could at least give people notice when a game is due to be removed -- other services manage to do that just fine (and it generates additional sales of those items).

They are based on the source engine and come with the pretty water and ragdoll effects that we are used to in actual source games. Sadly, since neither textures nor models have been updated what you are getting is the original game, slightly more buggy and with some effects that really stand out and feel completely out of place. At least that's how it used to be when I played it a long time ago but I don't recall that it was ever updated.

Why? You're getting a product that isn't as well maintained and polished as the original. You're not getting better textures and you're normally not getting the enhanced models. You are, however, getting some effects that generally felt rather out of place and didn't really add to the experience for me ...

I don't get it... do publishers actually forget the Europe exists? The number of titles that are missing or obscenely overpriced is astonishing. Games that cost £12 retail cost £35 on Steam and don't receive the price drops that the US / Canada get. For instance, I notice that HAWX and EndWar are now $30 in the US - which is £18 - but in the UK they're £35. And while Bound In Blood recently had a sale it didn't apply to the UK (which already has a higher price anyway).

Publishers should set prices in line with retail prices.

Greetings!
I don't get it... do publishers actually forget the Europe exists?
I dont think Valve/Steam knew how to deal with the publishers when they arranged the european deals.
Steam/Valve is used to one big market, the USA, having to deal with several smaller markets (that combined make it the largest game market of the world) and understanding the way those markets work together (ie. players ordering games from another market), which country has what currency, which countries are VAT exempted, etc, was just too complicated for them.
Publishers should set prices in line with retail prices.
That only works when the price is higher.

Only the major publishers/developers. I think they think it will force the PC gamers in Japan to buy the console versions. It doesn't work that way; the publishers simply end up not getting our money instead.

Now that EA is selling to the UK, prices are even more interesting.
(These are regular prices, and do not include the current 10% sale for the UK)

Mirror's Edge
US - US$19.99
UK - US$20.77 (£12.99) [4% higher than US price]
EU - US$22.01 (14,99€) [10% higher than US price]
AU - US$49.99 [150% higher than US price]

Dead Space
US - US$29.99
UK - US$23.97 (£14.99) [20% lower than US price]
EU - US$29.36 (19,99€) [2% lower than US price]
AU - US$49.99 [67% higher than US price]

Mass Effect
US - US$19.99
UK - US$20.77 (£12.99) [4% higher than US price]
EU - US$22.01 (14,99€) [10% higher than US price]
AU - US$29.99 [50% higher than US price]

I will let you guys interpret those figures.

In regards to recent sales and price drops, here is Australia's status:

Same as US price
- Freeze Tag games, Madballs, MDK games, FEAR 2 Reborn (DLC), Unreal Deal Pack, Unreal Tournament GOTY, Unreal Tournament 3 Black, Trine

Different to US price
- FEAR 2 Project Origin - in US, sale for US$24.99, in Aus, sale for US$29.99

I got one for you the last sale on new egg fear 2 = 20 usd in America.

Oh, well. This is how business works. If you can't beat the competitors then you lose.

StingingVelvet

Darth, a simple search would provide answers. There is no SecuROM in either title. SecuROM itself isn't a big deal anyway, it's the activation limits, and there are none of those either.

You have to accept a license and activate games online through Steam for EVERY game, so what those quotes are supposed to prove I have no idea.

The most likely cause, at least the one I would go with, is licensing issues. IE, the license to use the characters/story setting has now expired and the game can no longer be sold. It certainly wouldn't have been removed due to the score it got.

Price for resident evil 5 has dropped from 55.99USD (i think?) to 49.99USD for me in NZ. It is also now showing on the banner at the store front.

EDIT: I am logged into a different computer and it is coming up with 55.99USD. This could possibly be because that Steam thinks the IP of the other computer I was logged into as being an Australian IP instead of a NZ IP.

As Yotsuba said, it almost certainly has to do with licensing issues (a game based on a movie based on a book; that can get legally complicated). Valve does not remove games based on bad reviews.

odd, might have to deal with the same thing that some other packs deal with, i can't remember which one it is, i think it's the dawn of war pack not sure, but for instance in the US it's called one thing, in europe it's called another, and in australia it's called another, nothing at all is different in any of the packs, so it might be that novalogic just simply doesn't provide the pack elsewhere even though the games are available individually

any chance of getting titan quest WITHOUT the sexpansion? i won't whip out 10 euros for 2 games if i don't like them. i tried the demo but it won't work for me.

so i want to get the original only for now. the package lists both for 5 euros, but when i click on one i can only get them in packs, ripping me off.

Sorry, Titan Quest is only available bundled with it's expansion on Steam. If you feel like it's a rip off, then you should probably skip this one.

do you feel righteous now?

And just an FYI

The pack costs 19.99

the individual games cost 19.99

so on sale, the packs cost 10 dollars

the individual games would have also cost 10 dollars

so essentially, what you are asking for, is to pay 10 dollars, and only get one game, instead of two, even though you could have paid 10 dollars, and gotten two

still feeling righteous there buddy?

Don't like, don't buy. There is really no reason to complain about it. That is why we don't just have one publisher. So the consumer can benifit from competitive prices. Otherwise games prices would be much higher then they already are.

It's not just Steam. It's the whole "digital distribution" shenanigans. The problems is that some games REQUIRE you to use the atrocity. :(

Well, I appreciate your logic, but if the games have separate store pages then they should allow you to buy the games separately. If not, just make one damn page and treat the package as one single game, just like in retail. It even says 4,99 next to each game! What's that all about? Why do they even put up the separate prices if you can't buy them like that?

Valve doesnt announce it's deals ahead of time, so no one knows. But, since L4D2 is coming out soon, I'm guessing that plenty of retails (internet and Brick & mortar stores) are going to be trying to sell off their existing stock of L4D (for cheap). And since L4D is a steam registrable game, you can buy it in a real store and register the key on steam for all the benefits of someone who bought it here.

Anyways, I was hoping to buy the Valve Complete Pack but seeing that the price did'nt droped got me mad:o

Here what it looks like before the Gordon event:
■Valve Complete Pack - $99.99 USD - Save $109.83 USD
Individual price: $209.82 USD

And now:
■Valve Complete Pack - $99.99 USD - Save $73.43 USD

If there's a broken link, ended sales, etc. don't hesitate to leave a note. If you see replies that I haven't acknowledged, I'm not away (unless I actually haven't signed in) or ignoring anybody.

Quick fixes will be made once I'm notified of them. Sales and reductions take some time to check region locks/pricing and if I'm busy I'll leave them for later (having 3 currencies doesn`t help either) . For time sensitive sales, like the THQ daily deals or weekend deals, I may quickly paste the URL in and fix it later. Price reductions have to lowest priority mainly because they're not going anywhere.

On that note - HAWX and EndWar info is up, finally. Thanks for waiting (and giving me all the info)

CODMW2 is not being simultaneously published in Japan along with the US/Europe/etc, and it is also being published in Japan by a different publisher (Square Enix, actually).

It's not that it's "regionally restricted," exactly; it's just not being released there at all until later.

That may be so (for console versions), but that is no excuse for this: http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=jp. If the game isn't being sold here; don't ****ing advertise it. As such, it *is* regionally restricted (and the publisher is still listed as Activision).
