Also I think "case" is not bold as the rest of the components.

I feel like I'm trying to point out all your mistakes but I'm not lol, just letting you know so the thread looks cleaner :)

currently running xp... waiting for my 64 bit vista business to show up in the mail :) then ill have full 4gb instead of 3.25gb usable..

oh and a thermalright ultra 120 extreme cpu cooler... its huge to say the least... and i put it horizontally instead of vertically so the airflow would go through the heatsink and up the top through the 200mm fan on my antec 900 however its so big still that i cant hold 4 sticks of memory... has to be 2 cause one of the slots is covered..

Nice, My sound is integrated, Realtek HD Audio.

Harddrives = 1 160GB WD Sata 7200rpm, 1 250GB Sata 7200rpm
Monitor = eMachines e19T6W 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor 1440x900

I am thinking about buying 2 more hard drives and setting up RAID, just not sure if I want 0 or 0+1 yet. I back up data on dvd's periodically so I'm looking more for performance rather then redundancy so I would rather stripe then mirror or both.

Edit: The link for pic3 is broken, there is an extra "h" in the protocol.

Hey Scholzpdx, with that great case it would be easy to tidy up your cables. Here's (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=409911&highlight=cable+management) a thread that helped me out with managing my cables in my case.

Nice, My sound is integrated, Realtek HD Audio.

Harddrives = 1 160GB WD Sata 7200rpm, 1 250GB Sata 7200rpm
Monitor = eMachines e19T6W 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor 1440x900

I am thinking about buying 2 more hard drives and setting up RAID, just not sure if I want 0 or 0+1 yet. I back up data on dvd's periodically so I'm looking more for performance rather then redundancy so I would rather stripe then mirror or both.

Edit: The link for pic3 is broken, there is an extra "h" in the protocol.

overclocked to 1333FSB(from 1066FSB stock) to get 3.0GHz on the default 9X CPU multi with 5:6 FSB:RAM MHz ratio, but SpeedStep lowers it to 2.0GHz with dropping down to a 6X multi when the system isn't under load... I use a variety of different hard drives from time to time, and I no longer use CD/DVD disks and drives with my main computer(only to install Windows, and then I use the network/Internets or other hard drives for files/data) so those wont be on the list...running Vista64 for an OS...and sometimes I do run games in a windowed mode at a custom super wide resolution to extend more peripheral vision to the sides on the secondary displays, the main 8800GTS 640mb card still does all the game rendering and the 8600GTS only passes its work on to the side monitors, so performance/IQ isn't limited by the secondary card...sometimes I'll use a TV tuner with it all too...oh, and stock Intel heatsink PWM fan on the CPU right now

You already have what you need, a DVI cable and one of the HDMI adaptors that came with your graphics cards.

You might be able to stick an SSD in it.

Yeah very true, but are there any SSD out there that will do what i use my current HDD for? At the moment i have a 120GB partition for windows to play with and all my media on the remaining 380GB (consisting of 50GB music, that is ever increasing) along with loads of TV shows and other videos (amounting to 100ish GB)

i actually have a DVI -> HDMI cable

would i need to run 2 of the cables though?

Why? 10questions

i thought for real high resolutions on big monitors a dual-link connection ran better than a single cable

How much do you get in 3DMark 06 and Vantage?For Vantage, I scored about 19k, take into account that I do NOT have an i7, neither do I have a PhysX card...so, the score's more GPU driven. Never thought I'd see the day that a 45nm C2Q @3.85ghz become a bottleneck...:(

And thanks, jesse1234, for the colorful compliment.;)

BTW, has Rafiq come around recently? I haven't seen him post for a long time now....hope he's OK.

Hi, my credit card recently made love online and a tall man wearing a brown shirt labelled 'UPS' came to my door with many boxes!

From the contents and instructions I was able to put together this beautiful sexy thing, yes shes a sexy beast, yes we make love (atleast 3 times a day)

NZXT Tempest Mid Tower Case, I ♥♥♥♥ing LOVE this case, best case out of the last 9 builds. Best mid tower case in the world!
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?Sku=A406-1101

I just overclocked it to ~4.2ghz at 31'c idle, can easily go higher but i'm waiting for 2 of these fans to run a push-pull system with the H50. Low d/b (noise) and high CFM for airflow. Will get overclock to 4.5ghz, dont care or want to go higher than that. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?Sku=C283-2040

Anyways easiest and best CPU I have build in my last 10 years, I highly reccomend this to everyone. Tigerdirect is great, arrives next day even with 3 day shipping (I live in Indiana they ship from IL). Newegg took 5 business days -_-.

May post screens later if anyone is interested.. now I just have to find some DX11 games to stress this system

Also going to reply to fellow posters comments

Baronfel:
What do you like about the case? Looks pretty average imo.

Only negative I see is the SSD. The Samsung controller in that thing is not ideal.

Also I hope you are running a high res so that 5970 will actually have something to do!
A: The case may look average but it comes with 6 fans, all extremely quiet, a very roomy case with lots of airflow (many people had problems fitting their 5970 in their mid tower cases, not me, the 5970 fit right in with another inch or two to spare), the build quality is excellent nothing feels cheap or flimsy, lastly it takes up 2/3 or less the space of my full tower cases while also being much lighter.

Can a h50 really push a 920 to 4.5ghz, that's pretty damn good for entry level water cooling. I don't really like the tempest case though, looks too cheapy for a extreme setup like that. The corsair 800d looks much cleaner and better. The x58 le looks really nice, that nb cooler looks sweet.
A;Yes can go 4.5ghz or higher easily for me, i'm at 4.2ghz at all stock voltages. I dont even want to go any higher since that would be pointless overkill at this point and may shorten the life of my hardware.

Impressed with everything except the cheapo SSD. Storage (and case, but that's very subjective) is the only area where my setup is better than yours.
A: You know what I agree with you, that SSD sucks, I did some benchmarks using the ATTO benchmarks HDtune etc and while the performance was impressive compared to coventional spindle HD's. The read speed was hardly an improvement, only thing worth noting is the consistency of readspeed which doesnt degrade as data size increases, and the latency compared to conventional HD's is a lot less. Still its not worth the money, I decided to return the HD and replace it with a far better Intel X25-M 80 GB SSD, current market leader in 4K read speeds and low latency. They make the best controllers too.

Here are my HD-Tune benchmark comparisons for both the HD's and comparing them to an X25-M result I found online.

Kingston 64 GB SSD

Intel X-25M 80 GB SSD
http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/788/intel_ssd_hdtune1.jpg

and for added measure 2 WD Velociraptors in Raid-0
http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/788/hdtune_velociraptor_raid.jpg

The results speak for themselves, and is why i'm upgrading to the intel X-25M. That drive beats my kingston on every level in every test.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5256782&CatId=5300

One thing to note is the write performance of SSD's arent so hot, however since most of the time is spend reading data (playing games or loading programs) random access times, low access times and read speed is what counts)

MisterNZ
That's a awesome set up dude, just need to get some cable management in there.
A: I tried lol, my biggest fear is twisting the cables too much and affecting them in the long run. I dont know how people manage cables so well, I have most of them out of the way its the lump of them at the bottom thats making the case look messy, but I cant seem to find a way to bunch them up without keeping most of them in tension for a long time.

Someone paid $730 for a GPU?

Excuse my possible ignorance, but I am forced to simply laugh at that. It'll be like $400 in 2-3 months when it's mass produced, if even that much. I mean, I can understand someone being rich and having money to burn, but I would honestly rather get a 5850 and give the bonus to charity or something, even buy some more case fans, RAM, a good mouse.. USB HD, ANYTHING is less of a waste than that.
A: Its definately overpriced but thats expected from the single fastest GPU on the planet right now. I have everything else I need. The benchmarks speak for themselves and it opens up the possibilty of quad crossfire with another of these in the future. The post below you'rs explains it quite well. Oh and bragging rights :D

Sorry if it appears like I am highjacking this thread, but its one of the links the MOD who closed my old one suggested I post in.

4.2GHz at stock voltages? My i7 860 @ 4.1GHz requires 1.36v to be fully stable.

For Vantage, I scored about 19k, take into account that I do NOT have an i7, neither do I have a PhysX card...so, the score's more GPU driven. Never thought I'd see the day that a 45nm C2Q @3.85ghz become a bottleneck...:(

And thanks, jesse1234, for the colorful compliment.;)

BTW, has Rafiq come around recently? I haven't seen him post for a long time now....hope he's OK.

i found the bottleneck with 2 HD4890s and i have the same cpu as u scores around 22k @ 3.6Ghz do u have the dominator ram? to go with the dominator cooler?

whats your mean.

what does who mean? me about bottleneck?

bottleneck is basically the limitation of the cpu's front side bus where there is no gain in performance from having a bigger faster graphic's card cos the cpu just cant get the info to the card's fast enough for any improvement in overall speed

I too have updated some of my stuff, replaced a 74GB Raptor HDD with a Team X-Treem 120GB SSD and 2x Benq G2400WD (together with my FP241W) for some EyeFinity goodness @5760x1200....now, for games that do not support EyeFinity res, playing them @1920x1200 seems kind of....well, for want of a better word, narrow/constricted/confined/etc.:( BTW, I don't need to add to your workload, these are relatively small upgrades anyway.

I would welcome this, and thank you for offering the service!

But instead of taking it over, isnt it an idea to start a new one, have rotNdude close this, so you can start from fresh? I guess you would have to talk to rotNdude, Rafiq about this.

Hmm PM a MOD not sure its a good idea but what the Hell I don't think raf's been on much no harm in asking I spose.. Is there a Hardware specific MOD ?

I think this thread would do well with Updates.. It may even help ppl that are building, an IDEA...

Yup, rotNdude prettymuch is the hardware section MOD, ofcourse he posts elsewhere, but ya know, mostly in this section.

The reason why i brought that up is because in order to update this huge thread you would need access to atleast the first post, and then 4 more as placeholders, so people can have a quick overview of all the systems being posted here.

Well the Question has been put forward, finger's X.. It will be interesting to see if this is possible or start a new one...

A new one poses other issues but It may be easier...

Yeah, this section is my primary area to moderate (have you ever noticed the first name on the moderator list when viewing this section? ;))

Yeah, we'll coordinate the creation of the new with the closure of the old.

Good to know this thread gets a refresh, Borg, my advice is to put the member list together as it comes in on the new thread, people would gladly repost their system in the new thread, and saves you from searching dozens of pages on here to put em in your new thread, and it also keeps things a bit updated, as most people have upgraded their stuff anyway.
