View Full Version : Can see parts of my map thru the sky!

Might as well repost this here since VERC closed down last night...

Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about before I begin:

I have parts of my map where there is sky texture all around except the floor (so, for instance the walls are actually sky). Except now, I can see through the sky and i see other areas of the map. They are like around the corner, and you shouldn't be able to see them :(

Is there any way to solve this? If i put an area portal in the hallway, it works (u can't see other parts of the map through the sky) but it works TOO well. Now, you can't even see past the area portal or see the rest of the hallway :(

You either need to make the skybox flush with the edge of the brush, or if you can't do that (and only if you can't do that) texture the outside of the are you aren't supposed to see with toolsskybox instead of nodraw.

Thanks! I can't believe I didn't think of that :P

I think, though, that I'll try repositioning the rooms and/or rethinking where I put sky before it comes to that.

But what do you mean by making "the skybox flush with the edge"?

If that is a single large brush that is covering both walls (the single large brush being what you can see through), then break it into two brushes.

I've seen this in other games and was able to solve it by:
- putting a space between the two areas that can see each other
- between that space, placing a wall textured with something solid. The brushes should be ignored, but it should also prevent you from seeing through
- make sure the skybrush walls are at least 8 units thick.

You need to make your skybox above your map or u will have this problem

make it about 1024 pix above your map and u will be fine

See the general rule I have about this is if you can see it through a skybox you could see it anyway. If your seeing inside of a hallway or the like as in that shot, build a hull inside of your skybox area to block your view.
