Well, the tutorials that were originally here are no longer here, the owner took them down without even letting anyone copy them all off the wiki site...... Pretty lame if you ask me.

Regarding the gneu.org website, the links take you to the actual gneu.org domain instead of http://www.gneu.org/wiki/index.php?title=xxxxxx
If you are having trouble accessing the tutorials, simply add the 'wiki/' in the address bar!

I updated the link to the new one, you no longer have to do this.

Should this sticky point to http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Programming for now? Or the hl2coding site?
Else this needs to be unstickied as the site in the first post has no content ...

I finally found a backup of the site on an old dvd and uploaded them here (http://www.gamefront.com/files/20743469/site+backups.7z). Dont know when the link will be taken down though. Also, just a heads up, this code is from my old modding days when i started to learn programming so some of this might be outdated / unoptimized / etc.

Thats because the source SDK hasn't had a good update in a while now. Last time i checked it wouldn't even compile fresh out of the box, you had to make additional changes to the code(not to mention the scratch version). Also source is getting a bit outdated now and from what ive seen people are moving to other engines.
The source sdk really needs an update...

Damned this is a very bad fact ! Does Valve don't want to keep anymore the modding ability for their games ?!

what you want updated? new prefabs cause you can't do your own?
and that bullshat. it compiles just fine. the scratch. mmhhh. who's expierenced enough or willing to try to start a mod from scratch? also... outdated? what does that mean? last known to be worth to code cool stuff for is episode 2 and that works just fine. also the multiplayers don't really need custom code that only runs on private servers. also most of the games are fine with just own fresh content... which is no problem to make it work is it? there's nothing really to code in there. so what?
I can definetely understand valve not doing any big updates to the SDK.

Any programmer who does not want to remove the HL2 features manually and would like to start a mod with fresh source code. Many mods were made from scratch, especially multiplayer mods.
also... outdated? what does that mean?
Loading time optimization, bug fixes, graphics updates, more sdk templates and such. I am not a mapper but i have heard several complain about hammer.

Are you trying to imply that all the code a mod needs is already done by valve?

What, are you trying to start an "im a better programmer than youll ever be" discussion?... hah, sorry really not interested.

well then kewl. if you do program from scratch. then don't complain about it and fix all the shat yourself. it's stated for advanced users. there you go.
Loading time optimization, bug fixes, graphics updates, more sdk templates and such. I am not a mapper but i have heard several complain about hammer.
yeah hammer is alil contruction lot but all the bugs and trouble can be avoided. dunno what hammer got todo with template issues? it just loads the description and pops the windows to apply values and manages the connections. if the description is wrong do a better one.
Are you trying to imply that all the code a mod needs is already done by valve?no. I was just thinking about doing stuff for existing valve games. and therefor I don't see any need to really code for them. most of the things can be done by just scripting, and connecting entities in hammer. and ofc... for a completely new modbase you have to write it all yourself.
What, are you trying to start an "im a better programmer than youll ever be" discussion?... hah, sorry really not interested.I want to start nothing and I know I'm a bad coder. You just twisted the words so you feel better talking bigger. huh? I was just refering to the sdk package as one. wasn't thinking about that your head is thinking in code only.
all together you just posted to offend something.
anyway. this all offtopic in here. the end. ;)

Well i hope the source sdk forgives me someday for hurting it's feelings.
well then kewl. if you do program from scratch. then don't complain about it and fix all the shat yourself. it's stated for advanced users. there you go.
That is basically like giving an user a broken tool, state that it's for advance users and they should fix it themselvs.
yeah hammer is alil contruction lot but all the bugs and trouble can be avoided.
Let me give you an example. In my personal opinion the Eye of the storm mod is one of the best out there. The mapper is very talented and its one of the fewer mods that ive finished more than one time. When he wanted to do a second episode he quit saying that he was "not working on it anymore mainly because of constant Source SDK errors". I also know a few mappers who complain of problems with hammer.
most of the things can be done by just scripting, and connecting entities in hammer. and ofc... for a completely new modbase you have to write it all yourself.
Except changing and adding base features to a mod. You can only add player features, gamerules, custom entities and AI code wise.
your head is thinking in code only.
I wish...

it's funny how you rip off the text outta the context and start to babble about whatever you don't like. also it's interesting how you obviously know so many people that max out the tools and encounter trouble there. but. do you have the same errors or you just wanna cite others just to make the sdk look bad? you know... that's the worst and lamest thing you could do. ;)

I stopped working with source a few months ago and moved to the neoaxis engine as its much easier to code my projects despite its many flaws(much like other users who moved to UDK for example).
I dont think i said that the source engine or the sdk are bad tools. They are very powerful and we should be glad valve released any code at all. But i also say it could be a bit better and more "attractive" for modders.
Might come back to it. Someday...

Not sure how many of you are aware of web.archive.org?
Basically this website snapshots websites periodicly over a year and stores it so they can be looked at later
Helpfull if a website no longer exists or you want to see the old version of it.
This is the latest snapshot for the hl2coding.gamespy.com site.

sure it looks like crap but you can still access some of the tutorials/snippets and im sure someone would probably want to throw them onto the valve developer wiki :)
@serpent:
Negative, sir. Not a single tutorial (except the ones which redirect to another site like IWM or VDC) is displayed.
