Alright, I'm sure this one's been covered, but I couldn't find it quickly in a search. My overlays are displaying really funky in Hammer; they vary rendering from black to white to the proper texture over each frame that's rendered, i.e., they flicker black, white, and proper really quickly.
I think this has something to do with the DX settings?
I'm running this on a laptop with an ati x1600 gfx card, but I also experience the problem on my desktop with a geforce 6600.

I get the same thing ( 6600 as well ), I just live with it by mousing the camera around a bit til it shows a half decent preview. I don't think there's anything you can do really.

nope not really. it because overlays sit a really really small distance infront of the texture. if you card or settings aren't good enough then its drawn on the same face as the texture and it flickers as the GFX can't decide which pixels are infront.

Well, if you say "can't decide which pixels are in front," then this is an example of z-fighting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-fighting). It's just telling you that the triangles for the overlay are in the surface they are applied to. It won't have this effect in game, but I must admit, it is obnoxious.
