Half-Life Fast HTTP Asset Downloading Instructions
V1.02 January 22, 2004


SUMMARY
-------

Half-Life now supports the download of custom content (maps,
skins, sounds,
and so on) from a HTTP server (ie: webserver) when connecting,
instead of
downloading directly from the game server itself.

HTTP downloading has three major benefits:

1) There is no impact on the game server when downloading
custom content, as
a completely separate HTTP content server does the transfer

2) Players will download custom content at their maximum
transfer rate,
resulting in *much* faster downloads

3) Players who are downloading custom content do not take up a
player slot
on the server while they wait


WHAT PLAYERS CONNECTING TO A SERVER WITH CUSTOM CONTENT WILL SEE
----------------------------------------------------------------

When a player connects to a server utilizing custom content, one
of two
things will occur:

1) If the server is not configured for HTTP download, the game
server
will use the normal "trickle" download mechanism

2) If the server is configured for HTTP downloading, the player
will
see an enhanced download dialog, and much faster downloads.
While
this content is downloading, they are not connected to the
game
server. Once the download finishes, they are automatically
reconnected to the game server, and ready to play.


CONFIGURING YOUR SERVER TO USE FAST HTTP ASSET DOWNLOADING
----------------------------------------------------------

1) Make a list of all the custom files (bsp, wav, mdl, etc)
used on your server

2) Put these files on a HTTP server (ie: webserver), keeping
the folder
layout intact

3) OPTIONAL: To display a "banner image" to players that
download content,
place a 340x56 pixel image in the file <custom content
directory>/gfx/banner.gif

4) Set the sv_downloadurl cvar to
"http://yourserver/custom_content_directory/"


Example:

Your server uses the non-standard map "de_generic", which
requires the following files:

C:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamCache\your@email.address\Counter-Strike\cstrike\maps\de
_generic.map
C:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamCache\your@email.address\Counter-Strike\cstrike\de_gene
ric.wad
C:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamCache\your@email.address\Counter-Strike\cstrike\sound\a
mbience\de_generic_a.wav
C:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamCache\your@email.address\Counter-Strike\cstrike\sound\a
mbience\de_generic_b.wav
C:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamCache\your@email.address\Counter-Strike\cstrike\sound\a
mbience\de_generic_c.wav


You have web space (perhaps through your ISP) with the URL
"http://www.turtlerockstudios.com/~matt" that you will use to
host your
custom content.

To do this, you copy the files needed for "de_generic" to your
webspace,
placing them in a folder called "my_cstrike" in your webspace
top-level directory,
keeping their directory layout intact.

You now have the following files in your webspace:

You now set the "sv_downloadurl" cvar on your game server to
"http://www.turtlerockstudios.com/~matt/my_cstrike/". Now,
players who connect
to your server will automatically download the map "de_generic"
and its required
files from your webspace when they connect (unless they already
have it, of course).


TECHNICAL DETAILS
-----------------

* The maximum length of the sv_downloadurl is 127 characters

* A username and password can be specified for the HTTP server
by embedding
them in the sv_downloadurl like so:

http://usernameassword@www.somewhere.com/

( Note - recent IE patches make disable this functionality )

* If a connecting player has an existing file of the same name,
it will not
be overwritten. The download file will be skipped.

* Certain game-crtical and/or dangerous files cannot be
downloaded (ie: *.exe, *.vbs, etc)

Wow I never knew this. Great idea tbh. Question though, if it is not found on the webserver will it download from the server as normal?

No it won't, it disconnects the client and they cannot join.. that's why I created/released the KST 404 Manager.. what it does is when a file isnt found.. instead of giving HLDS a 404 not found error.. it creates a blank file (of the name CS requested) and lets the user download it.. so no harm to CS, your server, no lost connections.. No, in the console it just says "Missing Riff/Wav chunks" no actual errors or user-issues are visible..

Whats wrong with them having a 404 error rather than giving them dummy files, eitherway they dont get to play the map in question?

.. If its a map.. thats another story.. however if its a sound file.. (which is what i intended it for) than it works perfectly..

Does this still work? I am not able to get it working...I have all the files and folders setup on our web server correctly, and put the sv_downloadurl "http://npwcs.com/cstrike/" in server.cfg but server still does the trickel download we connecting. Is there anything else I need to check or change? I also tried the "http://npwcs.com/my_cstrike/" but it didnt work either, does the webserver have to have directory browsing enabled for this to work?

I got it to work... My hlds test server was out of date and didn't recognize the sv_downloadurl cmd... Directy browsing does not have to be turned on for this to work. The last question would be how do you get the OPTIONAL: To display a "banner image" to players that download content, place a 340x56 pixel image in the file <custom content directory>/gfx/banner.gif to work?
I put a custom gif in both cstrike/gfx on server and webserver and it just shows empty black box when it's downloading... Any idea there? Thanks for the help.

Ive changed to a php script that emails me when it finds a 404. Works great. You cant really do anything with plain HTML. Install PHP.

We are using this system (sv_downloadurl) by itself with a minimal amount of trouble. Amazing fast download speeds for cable users (de_karachi01, 10mb file in about 30 secons).

If you are getting 404 errors you should double check that you have correctly mirrored files from your server to the file server.

Any more word on making the banner image work? They did not fix it with the last update.

I have the same prob, my banner.gif-file is not loaded. There is only a black box. I already tried interlaced and non-interlaced gifs, but it dont work.

This is a nice update from latest steam update:

This update is for all of the games currently on Steam. The specific changes are:
Changed HTTP download behavior to retry connections using old trickle download method if it can't download all files. -need to update server.

Should stop the 404 errors... From what I understand the custom banners have not been added yet and is going to be in one of the updates...

In fact it is good that there is no more need for your tool. Clans with only 6-8 members often have a cheap server with no access to the ht-file, and surely no php4...

Our Server 4 example is a public with 20 slots for only 45$ (49,99 ?). It has good pings, but thats all. It's not even a dedicated. I think that they are runing at least 4 or 5 servers on the same machine.

So it's good that for once Valve reacted fast.

im using this myself. i even started running custom maps again on my server. someone had a good question(i was too excited to think about this).

is there a way to stop other server admins from using your http link to get your files for there server?

But then how can people find out your URL? They cant unless you tell it them. If your that conserned look into .htaccess so only your servers IP can see that folder. Im sure theres also a setting for giving the server a username and password to access a folder.

My new script for this CVAR will prevent people from finding it.. as well as keep stats from what people download, which file was most requested, which files were requested but not found, etc. etc.

you will change your CVAR to look something like this:

sv_downloadurl "http://www.yoursite.com/KSTDLURL/download.php?file="

so that i will request:

download.php?file=maps/mapname.bsp

etc. so that will keep track of everything thats going on..

I'm having trouble getting the wad files to download with the rest of the files......I have the correct url and i created res. files for all the maps....but the wad files will not download...all file are in the normal directories on the web server....any ideas?

The res files cant be correct. Make sure that your res points to the correct file name.

So where is this script that hides the URL? I've looked at KaOsX's site, but the only thing I can find is the 404 download manager.

I havent had much luck with sv_download am afraid on our server.

I've tried all of these...

sv_downloadurl http://www.mysite.xyz.com/cstrike
sv_downloadurl www.mysite.xyz.com/cstrike
sv_downloadurl "www.mysite.xyz.com/cstrike"
sv_downloadurl "http://www.mysite.xyz.com/cstrike"

....but no luck still.


What can be causing this not to work.

I'm having the same issue. The wad files don't look like they are transferring. Everything else appears to be transferring over ok though. What is the deal with this? I can't even find where the .wad files are stored on my local machine.

I know where the .WAD files are located on the server side. They are located in the \czero or \cstrike directory. What I meant was I cannot locate the .WAD files on my client.

Either way I cannot figure out how to get the CZ .WAD map files to autodownload. Every other file will download flawlessly except the .WAD files.

Store the .res file in your gameserver's cstrike/maps folder. When the map is changed to let's say fy_iceworld, most clients need de_vegas.wad. The .res file fy_iceworld.res should have de_vegas.wad listed and the sv_downloadurl cvar will make the client download everything in the .res file from your webserver. Make sure everything is in the same directory structure of course!

Okay Guys I can not get this is work
I have unlimited Space and 30 gig of transfer so that is not the problem

I set The sv_downloadurl to
sv_downloadurl "http://ctrclan.com/fake/cstrike" <----
This is in my server.cfg and also I type it in the Console

But Yet no luck

Do I need to point it to one above the cstrike folder or what I mean this
sound easy but yet it does not work What am I doing wrong . I did what the
steam website told me to do.


I am so lost and angry I can not get this to work our server has over 3 gigs of maps and I really need this to work

I don't see this cvar in me hlsw

When I type sv_downloadurl it returns nothing
(sv_gravity would return sv_gravity 800)

I would Love any one who can help me

I have some threads to help a lot of you guys out especially the ones that are trying to put the CZ maps on your CS server. Check out these two links regarding creating .RES files.

.RES files are needed in order to allow your clients to download the .wad files. Otherwise they will crash to desktop with a mapname.WAD file missing EVEN if you have the sv_downloadurl setup correctly and the .WAD files are on the server for download.

Heheh, yeah I can't believe the .RES point wasn't mentioned in the first post. I personally knew nothing about it until I saw a few people mention the word .RES in a reply. So I start doing some searching and tracked down my problem. This should be added to the first reply because the sv_downloadurl varible is worthless with the .RES file.

I still can not get this to work.The server has had a restart and still nothing I also had the mime to see bsp.wad tga ect on the website.


I also check the map cycyle and very thing is spelled right with the cap/lower case letter in the right spot.

Any on else Have any idea

Umm We have 2 servers Running a Stock map server and A custom map server I can get the Downloadurl to work on the stock server but that really does me no good. I can not get the downloadurl to Work on the custom server

Just updated to Last night. Still I can not get it to work.

Would one of my Amx plugins be cuase this What any one Know??

WHERE has the .res file to be saved in? In the <mod>/maps/ folder on the gameserver, or in the <mod>/ folder itself? or perhaps on the content server? and what folder?

and still it doesn't work for me.

custom maps are still been downloaded form the server and not the site.

What am i doing wrong?

In order for me to get mine to work, I had to create a deeper dir structure than I've read here. Here is an example of my website dir structure:

http://myweb.com/mirror/counter-strike/cstrike/

In the cstrike directory, place your maps, sounds, sprites, and models directories in there. Also place all your map WAD files here.

Create RES files for all your maps and you should be set.

Ok thx...

Looks like its working I think...coz the banner.gif is not been displayed..its just a balck banner atm...

I got he banner.gif in the right place /gfx/ folder but its not displaying.

Any ideas?

From what I've read, that hasn't been implemented by Valve yet. Currently, its not supposed to work. But if you see the black logo, its downloading stuff from the site you set. GJ.

ok still this question remains

can we use this VAR for 2 backup servers
so if 1 server goes offline the 2th would be there
to take over

It can be used as many times as you want. Just remember the more using it the slower the HTTP server will be.

any ideas to see if this is working or not? I am running a win2k server with iis5.0 and I checked all my logs and have nothing saying that those files have been accessed.

Any ideas on how I would know if they are coming from the server or the web?

Yes when you are downloading a Map you should see a black box were the content server banner was.

yea i fixed my server.cfg and added quotes around my url and it works perfect! Blazing fast. I usually get about 450k - 550k/sec off my host so this should be a big improvement.

I doubt it, this uses the HTTP protocol rather than FTP.

also i'm not sure but seems steam uses built in windows exporer extensions to display the motd and other html formatted content, so i guess it can use alos some functions to retreive files... if it understands heeader location settings then why not ftp protocol...

Wad file download redirect.. Thx to tha forums works now fine with me..

I added the mapname.res files to my /maps/ folder with the following content:

sv_downloadurl "http://mywebsite.com/my_cstrike/"
czde_aztec.wad
czritual_standard.wad

and the redirect for the wad files works aswell :D

recently got a host to host my custom maps, models, etc for my cs game server and i put in my server.cfg file: sv_downloadurl "http://usernameassword@cpaulv.brinkster.net/cstrike/" now i actually put my correct username and password in but of course i'm not gonna reveal it to the public, but for some reason when i try to get a map from my server that i don't have it will go to the http download thing then suddenly come back to the trickle download which i can't figure out why, can anyone help please?

also i get these errors:

Error: server failed to transmit file 'maps/cs_assault2k.bsp'
Error: could not load file maps/cs_assault2k.bsp

Should Be set up like this

I'm confused, when putting in the sv_downloadurl , i'm not sure what to put.

my clan site is deltastrikeforce.com
and I have a folder in the root www called tfc, with a folder named maps, sprties, sounds etc under it with the files there.

sv_downloadurl "http://deltastrikeforce.com/tfc/" does not work.

Is the username and pass for the actual steam account that is used when you go for patches, or for ftp or what?

Well further playing with it I've found this out:

The client must have cl_alldownload 1 (not 0)

The file structure must be intact as follows

1) In your root web folder, make a diretory called the name of your game (tfc, cstrike etc)

2) in that diectory you need to have more directories named maps, sounds, gfx etc (basically anytime you unzip a map, you need to upload all the files to the directory game name, wad files should go in the game name itself while the other files will go in tfc/maps and cstrike/maps

3) You webserver has to be setup to read and allow file types such as .bsp and .wad (and sound files and other files the map needs)

4) sv_downloadurl needs to be set with just the name of the game folder (or whatever you named it). Example, my webserver is located at http://69.93.86.235 and I named a folder tfc in the root, with all my tfc maps in it. sv_downloadurl needs to be
sv_downloadurl "http://69.93.86.235/tfc"

Yes, you need to add the endings to the allowed mime types. For exampleyou need to create a new MIME type for mdl, res, etc. Do so from the properties of the website in the IIS manager.

Our setup is sv_download 0
and the sv_downloadurl set to our http directory. And the banner.gif resides in the gfx folder, ie: http://budznetwork.com/server_files/gfx/banner.gif

It doesnt download anything at all. If I dont have the file it skips it, and puts me in the server anyway. this is really frustrating jesus.

The banner.gif goes on your webserver in the gfx folder.. I used cstrike as my root so when I copy maps,sound ect everything matches up with game server, so if you have say:

http://www.domain.com/website/cstrike/gfx/banner.gif

That's how I have mine setup and works fine, my HLDS runs on Windows, and Webserver is Linux...

I open the Folder and There it was My banner image. I look at the html code for that file And I found it

Well I've already found a way around it.. I hope they don't make all of my effort for nothing..

I've made an AMX module (that im sure can be ported to adminmod) It's currently AMX-AMXX formatted.. what it does is when you connect it reads from sv_downloadurl_url (custom cvar) which will be something like this..

sv_downloadurl_url "http://yoursite.com/cstrike/log.php"

Supposing that log.php is my script.

What my module does, is when a client connects appends this to the end of sv_downloadurl_url

?servername=[your server name]&username=[your user name]&file=

So in reality sv_downloadurl is..

sv_downloadurl_url "http://yoursite.com/cstrike/log.php?servername=[your server name]&username=[your user name]&file="

So in my script I can log pretty much anything the server can access, I just append it to the end of the downloadurl, and of course this is alot easier because $_GET['file'] is /maps/de_dust.bsp (example)

Hope I haven't confused you..

well the update didn't do anything to sv_downloadurl. I like your workaround but as you can see by my sig I have to wait for something by steam and not a 3rd party plugin. Its a nice tool, and I completely understand how your making it, but still not for me.
I've heard some rumors that nothing is being changed in sv_downloadurl until after the cpl, which would suck, but at least isn't THAT far away.

I rent a server and I do have ftp and rcon of course. My problem is that when I rcon and do rcon sv_downloadurl I get no response. What I mean is the server doesn't return a blank value it just doesn't return anything. Just like when you do a rcon badcvar. So, I do a rcon sv_gravity to check my rcon and the server responds with sv_gravity 750 as it should. This leads me to believe that it doesn't understand what the download cvar is. I have it set in my server.cfg and I try to set it by hand, but as I said I get nothing. So my http downloads are not working. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

I tried it with the sv_download 0 before but it responds like the sv_downloadurl does. What is funny is the sv_downloadurl cvar does show up for my client (not using rcon command). The sv_download cvar seems unrecognized. The server has been restarted (multiple servers on one physical server) If it had not been updated wouldn't I have gotten an error when I gamed in the server since my client is updated? I will try again. Thanks.

I have had this working on the server but it appears that randomly the client will be forced to dowload .bsp from the cs server while the other files will pull from the remote d/l server or the .bsp will download from the remote server while the .tga will dowload from the cs server.

This is quite bothersome. I have repeatedly checked to see if the files are on the remote d/l server and they are, even the ones that sometimes get forced d/l from the cs server are available on the remote d/l server. I have the .res generated on both the cs servers and the remote d/l server yet this anomoly continues to exist.

Anyone notice an issue like this?

I know case sensitivity has been mentioned as an issue for *nix webservers as the host. Especially if the gameserver is Windows and the webserver is *nix.

I don't know about your host (http), but with ours, only a certain amount of simultaneous downloads are allowed, if we get 20 people trying to download the map at the same time, some will be denied access to the http site, therefore switching the download location back to the gameserver.

CS Server and Remote Download server are both using win2003

I can continue to download .wad .bsp .env files form the remote download server but then it kicks back to the cs server reloading the security module and then you download the .bsp from the cs server.

I'm stumped. Directory structure on RDS is intact, maps folder has all the .bsp .res files in it. Permissions are set fine all RDS files folder and propigated to all.

I am the host so there is no limit on bandwidth or max users.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I think a general rule needs to be made for mappers that all files are in lowercase. As yes nix thinks file.wad and File.wad are two different files.

I first tried doing this: http://www.yourdomian.com (our domain points to the index with the www and without www) and the command wouldnt work. For those who are having troubles...check your domain names.

I do not know if this has been said or not, but for those of you who cannot get the sv_downloadurl to work you may have to go into your webserver configuration and add MIME for cstrike..... (depending on your webserver) I had to add bsp wad mdl so my webserver would allow these files to be accessed.... My banner and all works

If you think it's doesn't work...and this is your problem...it's been solved. It's a pop-up blocker that prevents the image from being seen.

As far as variables go...0 is "off". Server cvars need to be set to "1" to be on or enabled.

Also...it should be

sv_allowdownload 1 ...not sv_download.

I'm trying to setup the sv_downloadurl with 1and1.com hosting, but they need the mime information for the mdl and ztmp files. Where can I find this information? Or if someone knows, could you let me know?

Yes it does. You need to put banner.gif in the sv_downloadurl's gfx directory (ie. your webserver) AND in your game server's gfx folder as well. You also need to make them both read only. Mine works fine, I just can't get the other files to download since my webhost doesn't allow the extensions. Also, make sure that your hosting company allows hotlinking. Some of the less expensive hosting companies don't allow it.

I have done that, still don't work. and yes it is .gif, not .GIF

Try this:

Whatever mod your running .. name the folder the same on the web server. so if your running CS it would like this ..

http://yourserver.com/cstrike

Make a folder inside cstrike called gfx. Open the gfx folder and place a 340x56 .gif file and name it banner.gif. And you should be good to go. Your banner URL should like this.

http://yourserver.com/cstrike/gfx/banner.gif

You can check it via a browser to make sure its working ... then go test it on your server. I like to use the free web space that comes with my home connection. I find the servers are extremely fast and reliable and doesn't bog down my web servers with all the extra traffic all day everyday. All those custom map,sounds,..etc downloads really ad up on the bandwidth bill after 30 days. :( Thats no bueno. If its free .. ill use it. :D

Make sure they are in the content folder .. Like so

cstrike/whatever.wad

http://yourserver.com/cstrike/whatever.wad

This is what the directory should look like. It's setup exactly like your HLDS folder file structure is ... If you know how that works then you shouldn't have a problem with the sv_downloadurl IMO.

I must create a folder cstrike and put sub folder called maps, gfx, sound blahblah ? I just put the cvar like this : sv_downloadurl "http://redturtle.5gigs.com/HLServer"

Where sub folder "maps" was in HLServer without cstrike. I'll try making a cstrike fodler like on the server ;) See you later :P

Ahhh sorry, I foudn the problem, I did not put the "/" at the end. I readed that on a french web site (www.cs-amx.com) 1st. As I know they do too much error without appearing like a problem for other, they suck :S. LoL anyway good help thx !

Any Idea why this would stop working? Our server was one of the first ones using this new feature and loved it from day one. We never had an issues or problems with it until just a couple weeks ago when it just up and quit working. :(

It's working. well sorta anyways.

It downloads the maps from the HTTP webpage, but when it is done, the client cannot connect to the server..

Even if they try to reconnect, it wont let them in, if the map being played has been downloaded from HTTP. But if I change the map to EX. dust2 etc. there is no problem

Any ideas??

When I got to get custom content it shows up and downloading from my webserver but when it reconnects to the server after download it starts to download stuff again... help...

I'm getting the same problem.. this has been working for me for a long time.. I just put a new map on today and built the res file.. I go to download and it wants to download everything twice (once via fast and once via trickle).. and for some reason it won't allow me down the bsp from the fastdownload. It will only let me use the trickle down method.

My setup

Win2k3
IIS6.0

I install the server into a dir, d:\hlserver\ctrike\

setup a website in IIS that the home dir points to d:\hlserver\ctrike\ and make sure I use a wildcard for my mime type

.* = application/octet-stream and I have tested to make sure I can download the files from a regular browser too.. they are all there and all can be downloaded manually.

I give the generic IIS user read (no write, no browse, only read) to the entire cstrike dir.

I remove access from my addons dir and my configs and logs..

setup the fastdownload url in my server.cfg and vola fast downloads!!

it works too.. and had been for a long time.. but now for some reason it doesn't do it right ..

I see my cutsom banner come up and it whips through a bunch of files.. the does it a second time, but now through the trickle method.. and now it won't let me get the BSP through the fastdownload only through trickle

I used resgen (unitedadmins) to create the res files and even opened them up and verified they were all setup

The setup I have is awesome cuz I don't have update the damn maps in 2 places .. I also limit the bandwitdh and the number of users to the website.. I just want to know why all the sudden is it farsed up..

It may have been messed up since last update but I didn't notice cuz I have all our custom maps and didn't need to download any until I threw some new ones on today.

Im' now having the same problem.. Once used to work perfectly now "kinda" still works, as far as sound files, etc.. But I can't get the .bsp to download from the http:// web server even though al file's are still there and the used to work, untill I did the latest update to the dedicated server 2 days ago...
Funny thing is also, when I open IE and dirrectly type the address to ANY .bsp file, IE gives a file not found 404 error, even though I know the file IS there, because I'm also loged into my webserver Via FTP and see the files...??

Strange... Must be a web server or IE thing, since I can't even force download a .bsp threw IE....

Would it be possible to do web database script where is .zip files. then the script downloads it opens the zip and does send the map to downloader. I think all my 800 tfc maps is too much to write down to config file but adding a map database url from the web would be better way.

Is this possible?

on the config file you dont write down all 800 file locations.

the config just has the root address. for example one of my customers has their files on a folder called cstrike so the config looks like this
sv_downloadurl "http://user.urldownload.com/cstrike/"

easy, 1 line. not 800. hope that helps and check out http://www.urldownload.com/ if you need a place to host all those maps.

I am renting server from netherlands and I think their web server can give me url to my tfc folder and I can then setup the third party dl?

yes it isn't free. nothing is in this world :)

if the server company gives you webhosting then you should be able to use that for the download thing. just put the make a folder on the web server and put the link to it from the config file.

and my service does work with tfc is just that none of my customer's has a tfc server.

good luck with your server and the web hosting from the game company.

Maybe someone can help me with the error I'm having. I setup the sv_downloadurl as described, but when the .wad files download to the client PC, they go into a newly created cstrike folder inside the existing cstrike folder. Any help?

The RES file has the wrong location.

A RES file should list the WAD by itself, for example:

example.res
------------------
sound/example_wind.wav
models/example/example_tree.mdl
example_wad.wad

Notice the WAD file has NO sub directory. This way it gets put into the corect spot.

i've setup my server to use this feature but i am afraid is not working.

I have the following in my server.cfg

sv_allowupload "1"
sv_allowdownload "1"
sv_downloadurl "http://myserver/download/"


And at my localhost under wwwroot/download i basically copy all my HLServer directory and after that removed the files i don;t want like screenshots, log files, etc... leaving only the WADs, BSPs and so on.

Then i have :
myserver/download/hlserver/cstrike (with all wad files)
myserver/download/hlserver/cstrike/maps (with all bsp files)
myserver/download/hlserver/cstrike/gfx (with all tga files)
myserver/download/hlserver/cstrike/sound (with all sounds)
myserver/download/hlserver/cstrike/sprites (with all sprites)

So what is wrong on my setup?

I was wondering when the cvar sv_downloadurl will be implimented in the Source Dedicated Engine?

It obviously doesn't work, doesn't even recognize the cvar as a command. I think it's a great idea, however no-one can download custom maps in Source, and I think this cvar is a MUST for Source hosts like myself.

I have a remote map server working perfectly. . . except for the wad files. I have the remote site set up as

www.myclan.com/cstrike/

I have the statement sv_downloadurl "http://www.myclan.com/cstrike/" in the server.cfg file. i get the bsp but no wad file.


I put a res file in the remote maps folder that says cs_thunder.wad
doesnt work!

it isn't a bug with steam. Steam uses IE to download the files and an update to IE disabled the ability to use the addresses with the password on it like http:// user : pass @ www.site.com/

i take it that the sv_downloadurl is not supported in Counter-Strike: Source dedicated server since the cvar is bad in there.
