Ok im getting new to skinning and im using photoshop cs2. My first project is to make my own high-res skins for counter-strike source, so how do I do that? Ive already started on the galil, this is wat I did.
1.Used the VTF-2-TGA converter
2.I used Photoshop CS2, and I opened a new document and put the width to 1600 and height to 800
3.Then I did transform>scale while holding ctrl alt and shift to the end of the page
4. then used the crop tool to delete the rest of the negative space and im done

Did I do it right? What resolution does it have to be?

2048 x 2048 is always a good size for high res (same resolution fakefactory used).

You might want to look at this tutorial....it explains the high detail of models...its a process. If you don't know how to model high resolution for normal map making then your last bet is making normal maps from 2d images, as in Photoshop. The best tool I've tried for making bump maps is "Crazy Bump" which you can use in conjunction with Photoshop.
