Hello Steam modders,

I was wondering if you could help well not me, but a friend. I am writing on his behalf.

My friend has made a model in 3D Studio Max 8 and we are stoked as to how we can import it into Hammer or whatever is needed for it to work on HL2 and in turn become part of a mod.

Is there any plugins needed and if so, if anyone could provide a link I would be ever so greatful. Also if there is a tutorial available for this very task, can someone please post it as we hope it will be a successful mod and we just need the support of the Steam members and their input is much appreciated.

Thank you for reading, waiting in anticipation.

Jack

i dont personally know what the exact process is, so this link will help you find what you need:

all you will need to do is sort through them and hopefully find what you are looking for.

good luck

It's a long hard process.

Make sure your model is one polygonal model. No multiples, no primitives, no nurbs, no meshes. I think that's a requirement or just good practice.

Second, you need to have your UWV unwrap otherwise not even the geometery will show up in the game!

You will need a plug-in to export your .smd and you will need one for your texture .vtf in Photoshop, there's a good tutorial on the Valve Developer Wiki.

Just be patient and hang in there, it won't go easy, you'll make mistakes you'll curse you'll throw stuff... just keep trying! ;)

It really is worth it, models are awesome.

Things have to be skinned to go through the mdl compiler/...
