I bet this was asked 1000x, but I couldn't find jack ???? when searching for it. I wanna go out in the real world (for the first time :) ) and take some shots that I could texture later for my map. How hi a resolution should I go fer? Also, when wrapping them around a block, is it better FPS wise to have a higher xy scale as opposed to lower in Hammer?

Max size is 2048.

Not sure exactly what you mean but the lower the resolution of the texture, the better performance will be.

Generally speaking the highest res texture you want for use within hammer is 512 (maybe 1024), 2048 is really only used on models, as it is something that should be used relativley sparingly as it is quite on performance.

However it all depends on you target PC specs. You could use all 2048 textures if you so wished.

I'm talking about when u open a map in hammer, select a block with a texture, open texture application, and enlarge the texture scale. Would making the scale bigger give u better FPS around those objects or does that not even matter?

I don't think there would be much difference, both times they load the same texture and map it to the polygons.

I suppose it would very slightly as there would be "technically" less texture data, but I'd have to say if there is any difference it would be negligible.

If improved FPS is what you are after, optimization of the map, and the custom models/texture you use is the most effective method.
