Does anyone have a better way of dealing with bullet penetration then this? I have not tried it yet, but I am concerned about two things.

here is the wiki page I found:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Bullet_Penetration_in_Counter-Strike:_Source

1) every bulletproof object I make will sound like glass
2) objects that are only 1 or 2 inches / units in dimension. (think cast iron)

There is a dev texture called either Bullet Clip or something like that.

Go to Hammer texture browser, and search for "tools"

You will find something that blocks bullets.

EDIT: are you talking about models?

If you are, I dunno.

block bullets is only solid to bullets it doesn't stop them instantenously.

and for your question, no theres no better way. but i varies with material.

eh?

if you want a wall to be bulletproof, you make a second brush in its place and cover it with the bullet blocking texture.

{I dont get whats the problem :/

the bullet blocking texture your talking about doesn't always stop bullets, its solid to them but it still has penetration.

Thats the problem.

The reason your solution works is because the bullet can't handel overlapping brushes like that.

would it be possible to just create a .vmt for a texture that completely stops bullets?

Apparently not:

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "Tools/toolsblockbullets"
"$translucent" 1
"$nodecal" 1
"%compileNodraw" 1
"%keywords" "Tools"
}

I don't see anything special about the material itself.

dude, if i ever make a mod i'm gonna code a basetexture value in there that totally stops them.

Has anyone found a fix/hack to make bulletproof/thin glass?

Its all over in hl2 so someone must be able to.............

Does it even need to be func_breakable 0? Cant it be just a regular brush with glass texture?

If it was that simple (step 1: make a brush, step 2: shoot) this thread wouldnt be here :)

Ill test the func_breakable in theh morning

Nope.... func_breakable at stregnth 0... bullets pass straight thru just like normal glass.

Really seems like a lost cause :confused:
