Hi, I'm trying to watch some trailers using Steam media and it's telling me I need to install Windows Media Player to watch the said trailers. What can I do to watch the trailers?

Maybe your Windows Media Player version is outdated?

I don't have Windows Media Player installed, though all the codecs are there. There's nothing stopping the video from playing, so I'm wondering how I can watch the trailers with out the use of WMP.

Yes, but not through Steam. Navigate to the following directory:
...\Steam\steamapps\media
The video-files are there. Now you can playback them with a programme of your choice.

The /media folder doesn't exist, though it appears the \steamapps folder has the video trailers (zipped?) up in ".GCF" files, is there anyway to extract these? Winrar etc doesn't seem to work.

I believe the program you need to extract them is called 'GCFScape'

Steam media player is just Windows media player with a steam candy coating.

Thanks, I can now view the trailers no problems.
