View Full Version : Unable to edit my SteamID page

As the thread title states, I am unable to edit my SteamID page. When I open the editing page I get an error about a ) being expected, but the page still loads fine.
When I click the save button I get an error telling me that it expected an object, and then nothing happens.

Are these errors clientside or serverside? And is there anything I can do to fix this?

I've just finished searching 18 pages of threads looking for people with similar problems and have found no such threads. Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you Peewi; I am only adding my own problem.
Like Peewi I can't edit my page other than my avatar. I don't get any errors and I can type in all the boxes. I click on the save page and nothing happens. If i refresh or leave the page everything is gone.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Update your java www.java.com

My Java is already up to date, but I'll try reinstalling it.

Make sure whenever you install a new Java update, to uninstall or at least disable older versions.

I'm not sure the source of your editing problems. However, we do not use Java anywhere on the SteamCommunity site, so that is definately NOT the problem.

I'll look into it, thanks!

Im sorry for jumping the jun on the Java Updating, but usually the above error is a scripting error so I automatically assumed it was a java issue.

No worries, I just didn't want people spending time chasing down the wrong path :)

The only real error reports I'm seeing on the web side of things any more seem to revolve around plugins, popup blockers, firewalls, ad-stoppers, form-helpers, etc that people are running in their browsers. I'll still take another look at this, though.

Perhaps related to the linkBlue error - mentioned in a few topics, but not addressed properly - which is (also) a (CSS) scripting error.

More information here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=599963).

Make sure to include screenshots :)

Thanks for pointing out that thread. The error they're seeing actually has nothing to do with CSS scripting and is a different issue entirely. I'll have to contact them and track it down.

Cheers!

/me looks at dustbunny: I shouldn't jump to conclusions either :D

Anyway, cheers for picking it up. We tried tracking it down, my first guess would be the teamname, but as the code stops - no go.

Jumping to conclusions can be such a time-saver though!

I have a problem with avatar. I uploaded it, but in the friend list it is shown as... well, nothing. Sign "?" disappeared, but there is nothing now. Though in community tab it is shown correctly...

When I first went into the Community pages and tried to setup my ID page, the Save button seemed to do nothing at all. I didn't get the errors others have mentioned but then again, it wasn't saving my changes either.

I run Firefox here as my primary web browser and IE only when it's really needed. I've always found that Steam uses IE anyway. In IE, I have the security settings set to HIGH for most sites, that is except for the ones I manually add to the Trusted Sites list.

It took me a second to figure out that the new community pages connect to SteamCommunity.com instead of the good ole' steampowered.com. I just added steamcommunity.com to my Trusted Sites list in IE and that resolved my issue.

For those not already in the know, here are the steps that worked for me:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Tools > Internet Options.
3. Select the Security tab at the top of that window.
4. Click on Trusted Sites, and then the Sites button.
5. Enter SteamCommunity.com into the "Add this web site into this zone" field.
6. You may also need to de-select the checkbox there called "require server verification..." if it's not already de-selected.
7. Click OK till al lthose windows are closed.

Try to save again in Steam.

Good luck!

PS - These steps worked for me with IE 6. If you have any other version, you will most likely need to adjust things a bit. :)

What is your SteamID, Nestor? What about you, Peewi?

My SteamID - do you mean the name I use in Steam?

NestorMakhno
09-24-2007, 01:23 PM
My Steam login name is "NestorMakhno" and my name in the Steam Community is "Makhno [Anarchist]" - is that what you need?

MikeBlaszczak

Login name is best; that's unique. I can usually find folks by their Steam Community name, but those aren't unique. (There's about 1400 people named "Lethal".)

The good news is that your account isn't blocked for any reason, Nestor. I've forced it to reload and refresh; that might help. Give it a whirl and let us know. Otherwise, we'll have to look a little deeper.

Still no luck :(

My problem is similar misteries' - I don't get any error or anything, but nothing is saved. I did try misteries' solution, but it didn't help.

i can edit my community page if i use firefox instead of steam. easy work around and quicker since community seems slow.

I just reinstalled windows and now i cant log into community inside the steam window.
just go to https://steamcommunity.com/ in IE or firefox and it works fine.

I've been having the same problem for over a week now (can't save anything)

I've tried all the things in this thread, as well as reinstalling steam.

Could MikeBlas reload/refresh my account or something like he mentioned above?

My steamID is [-SouThaM-]

Thanks!

Refreshing your account won't help, Richard. You've been barred from Steam Communities for uploading porn. I provided you with this answer in your other thread (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600859).

Ok sorry about that I didn't see the other thread

Disregard my pm then too! :P Where can I check to see what date the ban is lifted?

MikeBlaszczak
09-29-2007, 05:29 PM
You can't. I could tell you, but I won't, because that would limit my options. For example, what if I want to extend the ban for spamming about the issue here in the forums?

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but im having the same issue with the steam community.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/dontwannaname

My default browser is Firefox which does have an ad block addon and a few other addons. The issue came up when I got an invite ingame. Logging in with IE shows the same bug. Thanks for looking into this as I cannot accept friend requests at the moment.

MikeBlaszczak

The same issue as what, DontWanna? The people in this thread can't edit their profiles because they've been blocked from Steam Community for uploading offensive avatars.

oh about the first post. My steam community homepage shows this:

You have 1 Group Invite:

<a class="linkBlue" href="http://steamcommunity.com/id/dontwannaname/home_process?action=approvePending&group_

After that its blank where the invites would be an events and such.

I have the same problem with DontWannaName!

I also tried logging in to steamcommunity.com with Firefox hoping to fix this problem, but it won't accept my steam credentials.
