... or: Games I'd like to see on Steam!
I've searched a bit for a thread similar to this, but couldn't find one so here we go ...
I'd like all games for PC to be available through Steam obviously :p But more specifically I'd like to see the following:
In the FPS/TPS genre we've already got Valve's own "HL(2)" series, not to mention the old competitor id's "Doom" series as well as new contestors like "BioShock", "Prey" & "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." ... but I miss:
"F.E.A.R." and upcoming
"Project Origin"
"Far Cry" and of course the upcoming
"Crysis"
"Unreal" series ... that means old stuff as well as "Tournament" series
"Battlefield" series
"Max Payne" 1 & 2 and upcoming
"Alan Wake"
"GTA" ... all titles incl. upcoming "GTA4" :D
Steam also has a few "SpaceSims" like the "X" series, "Nexus" and "SpaceForce" but how about some classics, since I reckon there's no way for "EVE" to be integrated ;)
"HomeWorld"
"Terminus"
"I-War (Independence War)"
"FreeLancer"
And though Steam has some excellent racing titles like the "FlatOut" series and "RACE" I'd like to see more:
"Need for Speed" series
"Midnight Club" series
I'd also like more strategy games besides the great "Civilization" series. How about RTS classics like:
"C&C" series
"StarCraft" and upcoming "StarCraft II"
"WarCraft" series maybe except for "WoW" ;)
"Age of Empires" series
"Rise of Nations"
And turn-based stuff like the rest of
"UFO" or "X-COM" series
And then just generally more fun and original titles like "Darwinia", "Psychonauts" and hopefully "Portal" ;)
Edit:
Add "Spore" to upcoming and hopefully original titles... (Hey "Portal" turned out to be a blast ;)

I think Blizzard hates Valve. I am surprised if one of their games will come to steam.
GTA would be nice tho. I don't have a 360/ps3 so i have to wait very long until they release for pc, hopefully on steam.

I don't see Battlefield series coming to Steam, as they are from EA, have their own profiles/accounts and also can be bought over EA's own "steam" - the EA Link (a rather ridiculous piece of software)

You do realize Valve cant just add any game they please to steam, right?
They have to strike an agreement with the Publisher.

crysis will be on ea store, not steam.
vivendi hates valve so fear and expansions are out.
Ubisoft have yet to use steam, maybe they hate vale/EA/steam itself?
Battlefield series will go onto EA store
NFS > EA store
C&C > EA store
rockstar should use steam

This thread needs to be nuked. If you want a game on Steam, contact the company that makes the game--not Valve. Valve must be approached by a company to have games put on Steam.

Nuke it? Ain't that a bit harsh? :p I am/was pretty sure it's just the way you say:
Valve must be approached by a company to have games put on Steam.
That doesn't however keep me from writing a post in the forum expressing my wishes for games I'd like to see on Steam!
And I wouldn't be surprised if several publishers is quite interested in whether Steam is a viable alternative and maybe even the future. As far as I know Steam's doin' pretty well, which I guess can also be seen from some of the high-profile developers/publishers who've recently joined Steam, e.g. id Software.
It's also no secret that old games can have a second life here on Steam. Let's use the example of id Software again and their old titles like Doom & Quake cashin' in once again, long time past last sales date ;)
And maybe, just maybe, some of the developers/publishers I mentioned is actually interested in Steam, say RockStar!?, and maybe, just maybe, somebody from Valve read this thread and could say: "Hey, they wanna play GTA on Steam!" ;)

After yesterday when I brought this thread back from the dead, I decided to give EA Store a checkup since many believe that EA will never have their games on Steam. Valve however is smart enough to have a few of their games on EA Store, so maybe EA will come around and realize that they can also make some money on Steam?! That is what the "game" is all about for those guys anyway, right?! ;)

After some more diggin' I also realized that there's at least 10 titles already on Steam which Ubisoft has published (in some country or another) mostly through Eidos, but not all:
"Battlestations Midway" (Eidos)
"Infernal" (Eidos)
"Kane & Lynch: Dead Men" (Eidos)
"Hitman: Blood Money" (Eidos)
"Tomb Raider: Legend" (Eidos)
"FlatOut 2" (Empire)
"Onimusha 3: Demon Siege" (CapCom)
"Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening" (CapCom)
"Earth 2160" (?)
"Dark Messiah: Might and Magic" ... !!! (Ubisoft) !!!
So maybe Ubisoft don't hate Valve/Steam after all?! If that's the case then bring on more goodies like:
"Assassin's Creed"
"Prince of Persia" series
"Splinter Cell" series
"Silent Hunter" series
"Settler" series
"Myst" series ... oldies but goldies ;)
"Resident Evil" series
And as already wished for:
"Far Cry" and upcoming
"Far Cry 2"
---
There are a few games listed here which I would like to see.
But I have this to add:
Sam and Max Season Two
Jorelm

One thing I like about Steam is that it is vaporous water, very good for the pours. Also, I like that they keep around the old catalog of games instead of just removing them.
My third copy of Deus Ex was purchased through steam.
I would really like to see Atari make a deal with Steam, they have some great titles.
specifically I wish they could put Outcast on there. <-Developed by Appeal in 1999. I would be willing to buy that again :D

The nice thing about Steam is that it is so portable. The more games that they put on the less I have to worry about where did I put that disk. Going on vacation, back up your save file on a flash drive take it with you. When ya get to where you are going download Steam to your unfortunate hosts PC , Download your game and pop the save in and your ready to play. I still play AVP 1 and 2 and all three Serious Sams. wish theyed give us a new AVP for PC

Considering the company that made Mafia and is developing Mafia 2 has been purchased in it's entirety by TakeTwo (2K) and is thus known as 2K Czech I would dare to speculate that we will see it someday.

I would love to see some point-and-click adventures from my youth make an appearance on Steam.
Classics like the "Discworld" and "Monkey Island" series are still amazing and everyone should get a chance to play them. I still have the original discs but I cannot bebothered to go through all of the hassle of getting them to work with Windows Vista (if that is even possible at all).
I would also love to see "The Witcher" and "Crysis".

EA has their own online game distribution service, I doubt they'd put their games on the system of a competitor. The boxed distribution makes them money, this would lose them some over purchases on their own system.

Boy this is a nice thread. Personally I feel Steam lacks in the RPG department. Bioware's games would be great (Baldur's Gate, KotoR, NWN, upcoming Mass Effect), as well as BIS (PS:T, IWD, Fallout). Bethesda would be awesome (Redguard, MW, Oblivion, upcoming Fallout 3).
There are plenty of games I'd love to see on Steam but honestly they've been joining at a pretty steady pace so I'll just play it by reflex and get whatever comes up.
Some of the best games on Steam are those smaller, cheaper games such as Eets, Gish, Peggle, etc. I never would've heard of those games if it wasn't for Steam. I would love for more of those games to show up, even the free ones such as Ocular Ink (http://www.pistachioproductions.com/) and doukutsu.

It wouldn't be a problem to include the manuals in PDF format, in fact Valve/Steam already does that with various titles like e.g. Call of Duty, Dark Messiah and DarkStar One. Just right-click the title in "My Games" and click "View player manual".

i dont play it nor will i ever but alot of people do... well i think they do from the sale historical stuff... bringing more people together, this will help spead the word of steam... well i think as familys and kids will start talking about it...
side note:
why is Farcry not avaiable to the UK

a wish list on steam would be good too, not just a cart but a wishlist like on amazon.com
Let others, friends or public, see it and gift them aswell.

I will die with joy seeing Severence : Blade of Darkness here :].As far as i know Codemasters handles the game now,it was developed by Rebel Act but they are long dead now.Well,Codemasters are already here on steam so i suppose it wont be that hard thing to do :] or must Rebel Act too approve the deal :[

I would like Steam to carry the older Monolith games:
Blood
Blood 2 + Expansions
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Aliens vs. Predator 2
Condemned is a great game, but I can't find it in stores. I don't think it'd be much of a hassle since Sega's titles are already on Steam

thank you for the link to "Good Old Games" i already have the original DN atomic edition, and tried the different ports to xp available on the web. they work so-so but rancid meat's port is pretty good.

Steam would still be a good home for this game.

I don't see Battlefield series coming to Steam, as they are from EA, have their own profiles/accounts and also can be bought over EA's own "steam" - the EA Link (a rather ridiculous piece of software)
EA true but RA3 ir EA and look its on steam (ok sry that look part sounded kinda rude)

This thread is from 2007, and EA only joined Steam in late 2008.

I wonder what's taking them so long to make it official?
I got this via RSS about 18 hours ago:
Bethesda Brings More Games to Steam - Save 20% (http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&id=2572)
by valve
Bethesda Softworks is releasing three more titles today on Steam.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind® Game of the Year Edition (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22320/) includes the original content of Morrowind plus all of the content from the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22330/) includes Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansions, adding new and unique quests and content to the already massive world of Oblivion. Or opt for the English-only Deluxe version of the game that includes nine DLC (downloadable content) items (http://store.steampowered.com/app/900883/).
Finally, scare yourself silly with the horror-adventure game Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22340/).
Save 20% if you buy within this first week!

Perhaps it was a mistake the news got out on the feed a few days too early or maybe a last minute change of plans? It seems quite legit tho' since there's links for the individual store pages etc.
Let's see on monday 'cause the post mentions savings "within this first week" so it could be an offer to be announced right after the weekend at the beginning of a new week!?

Since I'm 'in' the forum today (and there can be months between) I thought I might as well update this old thread. At the time I started it I really thought there was no other thread like it, but I've since seen there is another huge list (lots of posts) which was started a few month(s) before.
So anyway this is more like an update or reminder of those few games 'we' really miss and need on Steam...
Monolith:
TRON 2.0 (Yeah, I like it :p)
FEAR (might never see it because of Valve and Vivendi's 'history', but then again a lot of people never thought we'd see any EA products on Steam so... ;))
Bethesda:
Elder Scrolls 1 & 2 (if we can have old titles like DOOM from iD and GTA from RockStar then why not? :p)
Blizzard:
Diablo 1 & 2 (before the new title arrives)
StarCraft 1 (ditto)
WarCraft 1, 2 & 3 (love those oldies)
Bioware:
NeverWinter Nights (and follow-ups)
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (more oldies but goldies)
Lucasarts:
Battlefront 1 (since we already have 2, whether there'll ever be a 3 is questionable)
KOTOR 2 (since we already have 1)
Grim Fandango (possibly a remake like Monkey Island SE)
Microsoft:
Age of Empires series (RTS classics)
Age of Mythology series (ditto)
Rise of Nations series (ditto)
Freelancer (you can get never get enough space combat :p)
Gears of War (just for the hell of it)
And then there's those incomplete series for the collectors:
Splinter Cell (2) Pandora Tomorrow (something about some graphic card issue... fix it!)
Hitman (3) Contracts (something about some music copyright issue... fix it!)
UFO (1) Aftermath (since we have UFO (3) Afterlight)
UFO (2) Aftershock (ditto)
Finally (you can get never get enough space combat :p):
FreeSpace 1 & 2 (those are free today, but I'd pay for them being in my account... like I paid for Far Cry )
Homeworld 1 & 2 (classics)
Independence War 1 & 2 (gotta have 'em :p)
Terminus (Newtonian laws... for those who care)
Starlancer (the 'prequel' to Freelancer)
Tachyon (know nothing about it but it's space combat so it has to be good :p)
Dark Horizon (Russian?)
Over & Out

If you are going to include the Blizzard games, why not also allow the buying of WoW?

this msg not meant to oneironaut, but that is just stupid to rebuy games we already have.
i have all the Quake serie, its old, ain't gonna rebuy it now. duke Nukem the same. there are ports for current windows versions.
the best thing would be to send valve proof of purchase like photocopy of box or cd and they would unlock them for us.
yeah never gonna happen, but would be fair to us who bought the games and who keep buying the latest games like L4D2 !

One, why not just use the "activate product on steam" and use the key? Re-buying would be a waste of your money.

Sure, let's get WoW on here as well. If you're referring to the very first post in this thread where I said:
"WarCraft" series maybe except for "WoW" ;)
That was only because at that point (2007.09.28) there were no MMOs on Steam. In that first post I also stated:
[...] I reckon there's no way for "EVE" to be integrated ;)
Even tho' I hoped for it ;) Since it happened (EVE Online Puts the MMO in Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/news/1414/)) we've seen a bunch of other MMOs arrive on Steam so... WoW is most welcome as well, the more the merrier :p

Not going to read through 8 pages so sorry if it has already been mentioned but if you want more rts games hopefully they can pull some strings at EA to get the Battle for Middle Earth games on Steam. Not to mention with Dragon Age doing so well on Steam at it being "the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate" I bet that Baldur's Gate would perform quite well here, and maybe Icewind Dale as well. It's been a while since I played those but I think Icewind Dale copied Baldur's Gate quite strongly.
Also, I wouldn't hold my breath about Blizzard games showing up on here. Once Starcraft releases with Battle.net 2.0 they will have a user base not much smaller than Steam to sell their own games through.

'Battle for Middle Earth' would be nice and so would good old 'Icewind Dale' :)
You could be right about Blizzard but, as stated previously, many people didn't believe we'd ever see any titles from EA either so ;)
The problem with Blizzard isn't only the 'revival' of Battle.net, but also that Blizzard Entertainment is a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activision_Blizzard) which is owned by Vivendi... and there's bad blood between Valve and Vivendi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Corporation#Valve_vs_Vivendi_case) :( On the other hand there's several Activision (http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Activision/) titles on Steam already :D

OK, if we can have Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum (http://store.steampowered.com/app/2760/) from Obsidian Entertainment and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (http://store.steampowered.com/app/32370/) from BioWare then it must be possible to get Neverwinter Nights from BioWare and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords from Obsidian Entertainment ;)
